When the FUCK did you learn not to listen to Yea Forums?

Yea Forums drones hates pop culture references and memes because they hate fun. Fallout 2 has a harder start, but there's far more to do in the game. It's basically a straight upgrade.

Yeah, /vr/fags will screech but FO2 is the better game overall. The only thing FO1 has over it is the more desolate foreboding atmosphere. That's not to say FO2 doesn't have its own moments of it, but I can see why some would prefer the first game because of how it's less "re-developed" than FO2's world is. Could be wrong about that, but the point is that it basically just boils down to personal preference.

Real shame there was such a massive amount of cut content. The Restoration Project only puts back in so much. Would've loved to visit the EPA in its original form, for example. And there's also some instances where the game seems a bit underdone, but it's still a great game in spite of its flaws.

>The only thing FO1 has over it is the more desolate foreboding atmosphere
That's sort of the whole point, though. FO2 is a good time to fuck around in but as a work of fiction the first one is excellent pulp scifi as well as a pretty great cRPG.

The setting, the dialogue and the atmosphere are inferior. Gameplay and UI were significantly improved, however.

This

Van Buren when?

Quantity != Quality
FO1 nails what it was trying to accomplish, FO2 is a rambling mess with little care nor direction put towards difficulty, atmosphere, item progression, area progression and plot progression. These wouldn't be as big of issues if they didn't pervade the entire fucking game.

FO1 to FO2 is a lot like the changes between Elder scrolls 3 to 4

If it's any consolation, I've only ever seen FO2 recommended over FO1. Perhaps i've only ever had my head buried in a mound of dirt, but it would seem that attitudes change depending on the time of day.

>Van Buren when?
I hope never because that plot is fucking retarded.

Yea Forums is utterly populated by retards and fuckups

I don't know if I suck or if the game is really unfinished but I feel like every play through of fallout 2 I've ever done is always the same. Never passed the vault city entrance exam, never been a porn star. I always play as a girl and shamelessly use my pussy to get ahead. Fallout 1 was more fun to experiment with builds imo

>atmosphere is inferior
>UI is significantly improved
>its a fucking 90s isometric graphics game
make up your mind dingus, if the UI is better and actually tolerable then "atmosphere" doesn't matter especially if there is none in the modern video game sense

I'm surprised Bethesda hasn't taken the HD remaster route yet

>Gameplay and UI were significantly improved, however.
Hardly. The skill/trait/perk balance in Fallout 1 was absolute garbage and FO2 did NOTHING to fix it.

>ywn get the opportunity to become a porn star in an otherwise normal game

Bethesda wants to bury its old rpgs in the past. They are, not only, ashamed of Fallout 1/2 existing, but even of their older entries of their own signature series.

Yea Forums is full of retards. What else is new?

That's just a tad harsh, isn't it?

I'm talking about the actual usability of the UI, like F2's improved inventory system.
>"Atmosphere doesn't matter"
Ok, you drooling retard.

>Fallout 1 didn't have any goofy shi-
youtube.com/watch?v=JcRYA0OD9Nw

It's a less coherent experience. For example. while areas in Fallout 1 had unique art assets and unique music, Fallout 2 constantly. reuses assets and music from FO1

Fallout 1 didn't have a village full of unga bungas that 1. forgot almost EVERYTHING the vault dweller knew about civilization and technology 2. refused to relocate their village and 3. hinged all their hope on one dumbass who was lucky enough to bumble through the ToT
Fallout 1 didn't have said tribe not matter in the fucking slightest except for some immersion breaking cutscene where shaman guy would tell you how everyone is dying except they aren't and the barest hint of motivation for not liking the Enclave
Fallout 1 did have a timer that would fuck your shit up if you didn't get the water chip in time, and would have had a timer that would fuck your shit up if you didn't stop the Master in time
Fallout 1 didn't have goofy cartoonishly evil villains that blow apart farming families for little reason besides muh rads muh purity and then leave you alive for no reason while slowly sauntering away in an unskippable cutscene
Fallout 1 didn't have three basically empty cities (NCR, Broken Hills, San Fran) with some shitass quests to justify their existence
Fallout 1 didn't let you take a quick trip down south to buy power armor at level 1

>HD remaster of Fallout 1
Ashamed to say that I'd probably buy it

I prefer FO2 but this is fucking stupid

>Fallout 1 didn't have a village full of unga bungas that 1. forgot almost EVERYTHING the vault dweller knew about civilization and technology 2. refused to relocate their village and 3. hinged all their hope on one dumbass who was lucky enough to bumble through the ToT
All of this makes absolute sense in-universe, especially when comparing it to the water chip quest from 1

>Fallout 1 didn't have said tribe not matter in the fucking slightest except for some immersion breaking cutscene where shaman guy would tell you how everyone is dying except they aren't and the barest hint of motivation for not liking the Enclave
How is this different from the vault? In fact the tribe matters significantly more than the vault, because there's loads of gameplay content and quests there, they don't just immediately kick you out and lock the door.

>Fallout 1 did have a timer that would fuck your shit up if you didn't get the water chip in time, and would have had a timer that would fuck your shit up if you didn't stop the Master in time
Almost everyone who has ever played FO1 acknowledges this as a flaw

>Fallout 1 didn't have three basically empty cities (NCR, Broken Hills, San Fran) with some shitass quests to justify their existence
You went full retard with this one matey, all those cities have more content in them than most if not all FO1 settlements.

>Fallout 1 didn't let you take a quick trip down south to buy power armor at level 1
But it can be cheesed in its own way. And 99% of players will never know to do that.

Fallout 2 is like a upgraded version of Fallout 3 without removing its flaws.
Hey, remember when you hated a settlement made of children and a city made around a nuclear bomb? fallout 2 had visions from a shaman, kung fu ninjas in san francisco, wild west and all that shit.

The dialogue are the fucking same.

Bethesda wishes to create something half as good as the first two Fallouts

My understanding was the guys at Interplay lost the source code for FO1 somewhere during the transition to Bethesda
