Can someone explain to me why was he so obsessed with Luigi?

Also, Paper Mario thread, I guess.

He's gay

Because he wrote the dark prognosticus and Luigi is the key to fulfilling it

How do fanboys feel about Super Paper Mario? It's the only game in the series I played and I like it.

Attached: SPM_Nastasia.png (618x899, 202K)

Jealousy and living in someone else's shadow are the core essence of the chaos heart, under the right circumstances Luigi embodies both those things.

first half of the game is alright, second half is mostly a complete shitshow
at least that's how I feel about it

Attached: 1539482171347.png (958x598, 288K)

Deviated too much from the core gameplay Paper Mario was based off of

Unironically loved it

I quite liked it, not the greatest game out there, gameplay wise, but it's still fun and I liked the unique world it had.

Honestly, I've never liked it. It might have something to do with being scarred by the Mimi chase sequence, but even then I feel the things it added and retained from previous games were done poorly.
Bad Paper Mario game, but at least it is one, as opposed to the reboot pretending to have the same branding.

This game has

SO

MUCH

PADDING

I hate this expression, but it's the truth: It's a good game, but a bad Paper Mario game.

I actually liked a lot of second half parts, specially when I get Luigi.

Love this game. I don't think I like that much the new character designs and all the cubism, but it's funny and full of soul. I played knowing it wasn't another Paper Mario RPG, so I don't have that problem. Also, the 100 Pits trial it's fucking amazing.

Attached: 1469461084615.png (576x652, 69K)

>It's the only game in the series I played and I like it.
Why? Everybody praises 64 and TTYD endlessly, why not play them?

>full of soul
The game is loaded to the brim with dated humor and memes. It's like those WE R EPIX HAXOR koopas from Partners in Time on steroids.

>dated humor and memes
Nah. Outside the Francis battle, the humor was based on their characters and their silly relationships. I really liked how well written they were.

Have you signed the petition, user?

Attached: 7TDynyt2zmOrxgdF.jpg (1200x675, 83K)

honestly it doesn't need to be remade/remastered

I want a Mario platforming game to have Dimentio as the main villain. Anyone else? Tired of Bowser's routine in the platforming games.

It's fun and I like it. It's not turn based or anything, sure, but it's still an alright game. Better then SS and CS.

Attached: sans.jpg (792x1224, 439K)

Why arent you guys constantly making paper mario threads and posting the petition to get s proper sequel??

so L was luigi right?

I like Dimentio, but I hated everything else. I hated the gameplay and the story. Mario felt like he didn't belong in his own game.

I absolutely loved it because it carried the writing and story that we loved about the series.

I am able to appreciate it for the game that it is rather than bitch that it isnt turn based.

No Arlo, fuck off, i want a new game and i hope we get a Mario and Luigi game just to see you seethe

>Mario felt like he didn't belong in his own game

Nigga the contrast was the best part of the game

PIKMIN FOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRR

>I need more attention, let me use the fact that my Paper Mario video made me popular to my advantage

I love super, the writing carries it.
Also i like the idea of a 2D Mario game where the fucking score that hangs above actually means something.
It helps that you can still do stylish, use items, and is basically a free roaming platformer with a hard story carry.

>mario is the only one that can go 3D

Thanks game now I have no reason to play any of the other characters unless it's to use their gimmick to get past a stage hazard.

>Not floating around town with Peach

learn to get comfy with the atmosphere

because he's a phanto mask

At least get mad about legit shit like Bowser being borderline immobile in a platformer.

>

Attached: eftd10b8kwq21.jpg (799x542, 109K)

The only reason it is above Sticker Star and Color Splash is the story and music. Too much like the platformers.

Good game
Would absolutely love it if was turn based like the previous ones

Don't be stupid. Luigi is already in the game and he looks nothing like Mr. L

>people liked a certain type of content I made, I should make more
This is a perfectly reasonable thing to do, anyone in his shoes would do the same thing. Aren't you basically just saying you're mad that he made something successful and then chose to capitalize on it?

Poor man's Joker. He won't top Da Queen.

Attached: ab1.png (1000x1000, 365K)

The Shadow Queen didn't do anything the entire game, though. Pretty boring as villains go because she was just a final boss and nothing more.

Is it autism?

Liked it as well, but not as much as TTYD

On that note, as someone who only played those two, is it worth going through PM64, or is it dated to where the experience is just "eh"?

I will never not be fucking furious that we didn't get this in Paper Jam, so much lost potential FUCK
I haven't played it in forever so I don't remember how I felt about the gameplay, I did love the villains, they were great and I hope they appear again somehow. Though the game would've been better if there were more Mario NPCs instead of those square characters, they weren't interesting at all

Attached: fawful and dimentio PJ.png (1024x741, 875K)

Nigga that was 3 years ago

Absolute shit, the gimmick was never used to it's fullest, the helpers are one note and annoying to switch through and the game is just generally not fun to navigate, nor are enemies fun to fight against. I fully blame it for the downward trend of Nintendo with regards to their spin offs as a whole.

>muh dark waifu
Joker is shit. Tis niggas was the real deal.

You missed the lore of the game bro. She caused the fall of the place below Roguesport, trapped the 4 heroes in the chests, and had three dragons as her pets. Now, the math should be easy enough to follow from there.

It has so many fucking problems. The level design is god awful.

And yet I dont hate it. The characters have a lot of charm. Its really fucking similar to Undertale.

Killed the series and I never owned a Wii so I did not play it. Won't either. Why the fuck would I play a shitty platformer?

>the gimmick was never used to it's fullest
lmao, good lie.

Attached: D_1MIKNU8AA5o9q.jpg (483x680, 66K)

If anything Dimentio seemed like a Nintendo version of Kefka, not Joker.

>He never found out the secret stash of money
>He actually did the fucking hamster wheel

It's okay. I think it's very dissapointing compared to the first two and to be perfectly honest, I actually prefer Colour Splash over it too but it's not bad or anything.

Dimentio was the one behind the plot of SPM. He didn't cause Bleck's downfall, but he took advantage of him from day one.

Bowser is always will be the top villain of the RPG's everyone else is third potatoes like Eggman and Ganondorf to their C-List rivals.

based

Chapter 2 was kino.

>You missed the lore of the game bro.
What makes you think that?
My point was that she did nothing the whole game, what does that have to do with whether or not she was referenced in optional lore dumps?

I loved it to hell and back as a kid, having gone from TTYD and 64 to it. It was different but at it's core it delivered what made the originals so good: great writing, world building, music, art, and a serviceable battle system. I do with it weren't so easy, but it's a game for kids (of which I was one) and lord knows I needed a strategy guide for some fights as a kid.
As an adult I replayed it. See if it held up y'know.
Like I said way easier. But I was engaged in the game, I was really enjoying it. The writing and everything was fun to follow along with. The emotional parts hit me surprisingly hard (not like made me sob but I was moved by it more than almost all other games I've played lately)

It's not a perfect game. It has slow moments like the tournament that goes on way too long and it's really easy. Fighting is basic for most enemies, but the bosses are fun which makes up for it. The story gets crazy, and goes way away from what a Mario game typically is, but I love it for that.

Overall it's a great game. It's a rightful spin off to a spin off. Shame they never made another Paper Mario game after it that was worth playing.

SPM is unadulterated kino. It's a shame so many people get filtered by it.

Now that Nintendo appears to have remembered how to develop good games, does anybody have hope for a decent Paper Mario on the Switch?

"Not a funny joke, Dimentio... If I wanted to laugh, your face is inspiration enough!"

>that 20 minute cutscene before the fight
I will literally never be able to beat TTYD.

I want to ________ Mimi!

Attached: 54654.jpg (500x373, 29K)

She was more like the final obstacle in your way with the real problems Grodus and Beldam already dealt with beforehand. She wasn't great imo, but she at least felt imtimidating in her boss fight.

People are only ragging on it because Arlo ignored it
Fuck Him

She isn't that hard compared to Bonetail bro. Just get status-reducing badges, buff your party, and save the day.

>Killed the series and I never owned a Wii so I did not play it. Won't either
Oh, I know. This was intentional, right?
RIGHT?

I mean.

>people will forever sign the game off as "a shitty platformer" "casual shit" "bad"

Had the best post game out of all the paper mario's

Sammer Kingdom was Kino
Pit of 100 trials Flopside was horseshit Kino
Going to the bar to hear stories of all the main characters on Bleck was absolutely Comfy

Attached: dude.jpg (793x566, 97K)

Did people seriously not discover the secret stash? Even I discovered that as a kid. And that's coming from the same kid who couldn't get past the tutorial world of Twilight Princess.

That's not funny I fucking hate that prick's fight.

Attached: 1561925467818.jpg (292x315, 21K)

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought it was bullshit.

Super Paper Mario in HD is great eye candy

I’m one of the few people who like SPM more than TTYD. I still love the latter to death but there’s something about SPM that just makes me happier about replaying it.

Something I feel could only exist in the gamecube era (Look up prerelease shit, it was a late gamecube game first). Before the great mario blandening began. Still

Fuck the faux platforming shit
Fuck the koopalings
Fuck the new devs for using Mario and Luigi as a scapegoat for change

I just want Paper Mario 64 back.

Attached: 412121423.png (500x545, 113K)

They should have cut out chapter 4 and 5 honestly

TTYDs lore was nonsense was probably added in at the last second. How much sense does it make that Hooktail is somehow guarding a star?

Why would one of the heroes hide the star in the lair of the Shadow Queens minion who was guarding one originally?

Everything from the end of 3 to *that part of chapter 6 is a fucking slog. Chapter 7 is bretty good though and the main saving grace besides the part where it seems like everyone dies to help you get to Bleck.

Everybody gets the fucking stash. It's mandatory. It's the code for the stash that absolutely requires you to run on the hamster wheel, and not just for a minute or two.

6 was pretty shit too. Just the same room copy-pasted 20-100 times.

I always thought it had weaker side characters than the other games but I loves the enviroments and main villians and used to make up fantasy senarios where I would be Count Bleck in real life

>everyone dies
It was probably just Treehouse meming, but I enjoyed it. Tippi freaks out over Bowser's "death" but Peach is just like "HA HA IF ONLY". Mario's as chipper as ever, like he just got done playing Tales of Symphonia and already saw this scene. He tries to explain to her that nobody really dies in his games but she just doesn't get it

First time you go you only go through the first few so it's alright, it doesn't overstay it's welcome

You'll have better luck waiting for Bug Fables to come out than waiting for Nintendo.

>It's a good game, but a bad Paper Mario game.
This.
I don't hate the expression because there's many applicable scenarios for it, but that's me.

Ouch

>Bug Fables

From the demo the whole thing looks, plays and reads like they came up with the title first. It looks to be more generic than Sticker Star.

Luigi was the wildcard in the competing prophecies. If he allied with the good guys, they won. If he allied with Dimentio, he won.

TTYD > SPM > 64 tbqh, never played any of the later ones

>Something I feel could only exist in the gamecube era (Look up prerelease shit, it was a late gamecube game first). Before the great mario blandening began. Still
Seriously, what the fuck happened? Throughout the GBA-GCN era, Nintendo showed a willingness to get experimental with their series, especially Mario. Not necessarily in terms of mechanics (though sometimes those too) but in terms of tone. Now every Mario game is exactly the goddamn same in terms of style and aesthetic and mood.

All the edges have been sanded off. I mean, let me be clear, Mario was never edgy (nor should it have been) but there used to be some kind of friction. Some ideas that were outside of Nintendo's comfort zone. Some experimental stuff (which didn't always work out, though it usually did!). Now it's just the same goddamn rounded corners every time. I miss it.

I watched Vinny play this entire game and it was the most mind-numbingly, painful game to watch. The story was stupid and the gameplay looked so dull.

>I watched Vinny play this entire game
Good, fucking lord.
-->

even a lot of the francis stuff is still relevant today tbqh
I never beat TTYD until I played it on emulator, and the reason was that I could use the emu to make a save state after the cutscene
>complaining about games you never played
>because you watched some eceleb youtuber play them
Actually, unironically, kill yourself.

>Watch eceleb play a game
>Think you know what the game is like

Mad your shit game is mad. Even people who like the series says it's shit.

I don't have to smash my own dick with a rock to know it's not fun; I can just watch someone and determine it for myself super easily.

Memory legit made me tear up a year ago.
That’s some good shit.

I've played it and I can vouch. The tedious parts are as bad to look as they play. Especially the Please bit.

I not even a fan of SPM but I actually played it, you watched a boring, washed up eceleb play it while mumbling and doing shitty impressions, sit the fuck down

youre not wrong
the game is a mindless chore to play, the characters are obnoxious and are amateurishly designed, and the unnecessarily gigantic script is fucking embarassing. it all looks and reads like a mario fanfiction. it's always been shit and i'll never understand why it gets a pass from anyone on this board

I wish for Mario games like this which has a story to tell.

Attached: 1564182728397.jpg (500x500, 39K)

Arguably the dimension switching was executed better in Green Energy Plant SMB3 level in Color Splash. lots of path ways through the same level hidden in 3D with subtle cues based on the 2D viewpoint and focus on exploration with different items to discover.

Super Paper Mario's rather linear level design meant the main gimmick almost always was just flip dimensions at a dead end because they hid a platform, door or switch in the 3rd dimension. It was still better than crap like Fez, but the mechanic didn't really feel fleshed out. Color Splash proved that more could be done with it.

Attached: Green Energy Plant.png (1920x1080, 961K)

>"And now we shall duel, like two banjos on a moonlit stoop!"

Of all the references to make.

If SPM had the same combat and world design of PM or PMTTYD, it would be heralded as one of the greatest RPG's of all time.

Attached: Science Claw.png (848x590, 678K)

Funny I watched Vinny repeatedly stumble and fumble at this baby game for children. Now that's painful and mind numbing. The man is stupid and his conversation topics are so dull.

I hoenstly don't think there was a visual gimmick in Color Splash or Super that Paper Mario didn't already do better. I'm talking visual gags and passages hidden behind awkwardperspective.

Attached: 1322424142.gif (400x192, 969K)

he was next in line

PM-Evil Bowser final boss
TTYD-Evil Peach final boss
SPM-Evil Luigi final boss

It's been years since i've done a complete playthrough of SPM, I remember hating nearly everything about the combat but the story and characters were worth it to me. Also fuck collecting those cards, fuck them to hell.

Attached: 1505936967919.png (300x303, 63K)

There are highs (chapter 3-4) and very lows (the tree in 3-3 or chapter 5). I think that the platforming could have been better executed. I often get the impression the levels are empty.
But I think this is the Mario game with the best plot. The story is very enjoyable to follow, and all characters were well written (aside from Bleck wanting to destroy the world just because he has a heartbreak)
6/10

It seems like a lot of fans, myself included, don’t care for the combat and overall gameplay but enjoyed the story enough to be forgiving towards it.

NO, MR. POSTAL DUDE! I DON'T WANT TO SIGN YOUR PETITION!

Vinny's way playing don't really do the game justice. He has to skip all optional tidbits to keep the stream being entertaining despite it being one of the strong point of SPM. To enjoy the writing, you have to take your time and discover the world at a steady pace.

>look this 'Arlo' up
>it's cringe as fuck
i should have known better after seeing half a dozen replies basedfacing over a brightly colored puppet nintendo shill that they're using as their surrogate friend but i guess that's egg on my face

I like it, too, but it's no PM64 or TTYD. It's definitely better than SS and CS, though.

Color Splash is better than SPM.

>It's like those WE R EPIX HAXOR koopas from Partners in Time on steroids
I thought that was meant to be a "take that" to people who talks like that. Even the hammer bros lampshaded it.

PM64 is just as great as TTYD so I highly recommend you play that, too.

>tfw paper mario has become generic so we will never get a Mario final boss

The gameplay is dull. The story is only good if you're a kid or get your mind severely blown just because it was a bit more ambitious than usual for Mario. People praising SPM's story are in the same boat as those who think Pokemon BW's plot was anything special.

Also the creator wanted people to draw porn of the characters as a means to help advertise it

What's wrong with superguarding in TTYD? I don't get the timing for that at all, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
