Valve made 20 different crates give 100% unusual rate (they usually do 1% unusual rate). This kicked the economy in the balls, tradefags seethed and people wanted cheater's lament for doing basically nothing and "being a good boy".
Due to people putting real money into the system to open these crates, a fuck load of unusuals were made and Valve would've been fucked hard in different laws if they changed/deleted stuff. They've just now said that we can trade/sell the first one you unboxed but others are not, which is fine. People did buy the unusuals from the community market too. I remember seeing some guy earn over 1K dollars from selling crates and shit, some guy got that Index or whatever the VR shit is from their earnings.

Former TF2 trader here. The bug last week didn't kill the TF2 economy. The TF2 economy killed itself. When site admins for sites like backpack, tf2outpost manipulated the prices by doing things like crashing the value of earbuds overnight, constantly inflating the price of keys/refined metal, etc. Every trader wants to buy at less than half and sell at 1.2x the price. No trades ever get done unless you're willing to let stuff go for nothing to these parasites.
