Very low. This is the modern RPG scene we're talking about. You're going to get some ropekid tier trannies and faggots to romance.

its going to be worse than IWD2

BG3 already released, it was mediocre

Modern RPG writing

Attached: character_tyranny_lmao.jpg (642x730, 164K)

What's especially sad is how the general idea can and have in the past worked for decent characters. Before the strong independent steel donuts became a staple of storytelling.

Somewhere between 1-2%.

Tyranny if anything is a tragedy how it turned out to be. The idea for the game was brilliant on general level.

At least Beamdog isn't doing it, so there is a a chance it will be good.

>"Yep, this will be our main writer for Siege of Dragonspear."

No.
They fucking showed realtime cerebromorphis- except that's not how it works for the trailer, unless it was Ravenloft tier transposition in action with an Illithid- but even that is wrong, because the nature of Illithid transformation is so fucked that shit like that would literally render any subject host a braindead cripple, or cause the head to hemorrhage and rupture from Psionic Backlash and lack of supervision from the active illithid community and Elder Brain

It's going to be nu-DnD, so expect *very* gamey rules.
It's going to be post-2017, so expect your medieval-ish characters to all be extreme-leftist.

Oh god, this is even worse that I feared.
Well, at least now I don't even have a reason to follow what's happening with this game, it's 200% guaranteed to be absolute garbage writing-wise.

You don't talk much do you?

Attached: Anomen_Delryn_NANOMEN_Portrait_BG2.png (210x330, 120K)

That's not the bg3 writer. The creature was Siege of Dragonspear writer and later PR person for Beamdog. It got fired after the whole fiasco.

Please tell me this is a joke post

d:os2 was terrible

this

Zero since Owlcat is literally the only devs who have proven capable of making a true sequel to BG without streamlined casualized shit in current year.

Problem with Pathfinder is that the very beginning is kind of a mixed bag, then you get into it a little bit and it's 12/10, and then it's 9/10, and then it's a mix bag again. But surely yeah they would have gotten the license a year or two later.
Now D:OS2 is good too for a while, it's good for like the first two chapters, first island, and then it's IWD 2 tier shit.

Attached: waitaminute that cleric.png (767x400, 494K)

low.

IWD2 is miles better than D:OS2

kill yourself

thing about Pathfinder and D:OS2 is the characters are bland and unoriginal. you sense no real conflict or struggle with any of them the way you do the BG1/2 characters.

Straight people of any race ARE the normal baseline though

A hell of a lot higher than if BeamDog was making it.

In nutshell people are too stupid to understand that small number in stats is good if they are told that small number that stat is a good thing. What a time to be alive.

what was it that that made BG 1 and 2 good?

This is what every developer aping baldurs gate seems to get wrong. Its... the fucking gameplay.

why not though? you gotta push shit forward, pillars was way too backwards looking and it fucking sucked for it.

if its anything like d:os2 its gonna be a casualized piece of shit with piss poor writing. the upside is that it wont take place in the divinity universe, which is absolute horrid.

I'm gonna roll that dice.

Enemies have pretty low Will and Reflex saves in Kingmaker.
It doesn't have Greater Malison except it has absurd stat stacking, many gear that increases DC, nevermind a ton of stacking debuffs to further increase the odds of save or suck hitting.
Nevermind combos like Stinking Cloud and Cloudkill + Delay Poison Communal.

I can some sort of understand the "hype" for BG3 (even if the majority of the hyped people didnt even play the originals) since Larian has an history as a game studio even if you dislike their games. But someone being genuinely hyped for Bloodlines 2 is just beyond my small brain.

Very low chance.

As an older gamer all this nostalgia and dredging up old franchises is fun and all but... does it ever amount to anything?

Deus Ex: mediocre
Thief: lets pretend 4 never happened
Star Citizen: LOL

Let the honored dead rest.

Are you this dense? This person isn’t even working on BG3.

It'll make Siege of Dragonspear look like a masterpiece

wow, what an achievement

FFIX is a shit game but you shouldn't waste your limited braincells trying to critique it.

Fuck you the new Deus Ex games are really good.
Also star citizen is an old franchise? Like actually old or old because it's been a million years in development?

not an argument

50/50, it's either good or it's not.

As someone who loves evil options in rpg's and always hated how much of an afterthought they usually seem to be, I really wanted Tyranny to be good. But sadly, new obsidian can't write a good game to save its life.

More like 5% of being "Okay", "Good" isn't going to happen.

Star Citizen is done by a guy who did Wingcommander- a huge franchise in the 90s. He is coasting on his legend status.
Muh dead space sims.

you roll for shades of mediocrity after the first roll

Oh I know about that. Can't really call it the same franchise.

What's to be seen here? Goblins be dumb, as has become the norm since at least 15 years ago. Tolkien's cunning little green shits aren't popular nowadays.

It might be fun.

Will be almost as good as DA:O, so a 9/10.

Pathfinder goblins in particular are especially stupid, having such a pitifully short attention span that they might stop to chase after a frog or something in the middle of combat, as well as a powerful adoration of fire and an incredibly weak grasp of how not to burn themselves to death. The fact that they somehow survived to the Starfinder era is a scathing indictment of every other sapient race on Golarion.

>remember your witer user

Attached: trans.png (600x407, 369K)

>The fact that they somehow survived to the Starfinder era
Maybe other races were helping them survive for whatever reasons. To hunt for sport, to use as fucktoys etc.

They have stated multiple times this was a case of accelerated morphasis and not usually how it works.

If this post ends in 20 it’s good

They worship the goddess of monsters, she probably guides them along. Really it's because paizo uses them as a bit of a mascot and people like them

It could be good, but it has no reason to use the baldurs gate title other than to sell a game that isn't good, so there's cause of worry.
If it is rtwp I'll be hopeful, otherwise I might not even try it.

Also I find Aeries romance theme very nice, I never heard it back in the day because I was all about Viconia.
Viconias romance theme is more painful and bittersweet, but Aeries is almost jrpg'ish upbeat and pleasant, it's really cool.

>sawyer
imagining him trying to balance BG3 is pure nightmare material

They did a pretty good job matching the theme to the characters. I was always partial to jaheira's theme. I really liked the somberness with just a hint of an uplifting tone.

Is that the Pillars of Eternity guy?

To think they fired Dave Gross to hire this abomination.

DOS2 was excellent so I'd say pretty good

Really good cause thankfully

I'd be more than ok with all of the changes they made to BG1 and 2 with the enhanced editions if not for all the new content they added. They two new npcs are so god awful and stand out so much more than any UI changes they could make.

Can't you kill or otherwise be rid of them in a heartbeat if you so desire? Like, when the drow sorcerer from the arena mode shows up, your response can be "die, drow!" and then you murder him and take his stuff.

I don't remember being given an option to tell the quirky wild mage girl to fuck off in BG2, so she just annoyed me with her unavoidable scenes. And then late in the game I accidentally traveled to the area they added for her and got stuck in a long conversation with her. The content just seemed crafted to be purposefully annoying to deal with, regardless of the writing of it.

Larian can't write, and they can't make an enjoyable combat system. Just watching that E3 interview of the wafflenigger and the WotC goon, you realize they are wasting assets, time and money in dumb shit like DM mode.

>>Lose Yeslick
>>Leave to recruit Tiax
Why didn't you raise Yeslick?

It's not like she joined my party, or I even let her, the game still just forces her conversation on you if you go near her in wherever it was in BG1 where she shows up, and in the bridge district in BG2.

Lol. And yet beamniggers claim that this shit is optional.

The existence of Linzi was enough to completely turn me off from Kingmaker.
>can't even mildly punish her for betraying you
What kind of fucking ruler am I? Absolute dogshit writing

Optional is a bit of a stretch.
This guy youtube.com/watch?v=KdtTR5GsQYs did a retrospective review of both Baldur's Gates, and he is a huge obnoxious lefty, but even he acknowledged the poor writing of SoD and the added content in the EE editions. He even mentions how the games really try to force the new content on you when you play them.

Really? I haven't gotten that far in the game yet, but at least I was able to kill Tristian when he betrayed me.

I just CLUAConsole'd it.

I did, but his AC is perpetually shit so I wanted to trade him out.
Plus, Tiax rules.

It will be shit. They should've given it to Owlcat instead of the guys who never made a crpg before.

Attached: 1262362853974.png (500x500, 32K)

Pretty decent but you gotta look a bit deeper than that.

It'll have pretty good gameplay/combat, and pretty dumbass/comedy-heavy writing. If you're expecting serious tones or anything nearly as dark as BG2, you won't find it.

Larian doesn't do dark. They do slapstick comedy every second line of dialogue; every game they've ever made is overflowing with three stooges-esque comedy and constant 4th wall references. I'm not saying it's bad, in fact, it's worked pretty well for them.

But will it make a good Baldur's Gate followup? Probably not. Still, the combat will probably be aces.

I wanna work on the next Zelda game!

As long as it isn't helmed by Obsidian? Pretty good. Each attempt Obsidian makes to create their own universe rather than simply deconstruct a setting made by others, has been more disastrous than the last. Aside from the outdated gameplay and lifeless cities, Pillars of Eternity's only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of combat mechanics, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Sawyer vetoed the idea of making anything at all innovative or original; he made sure the game would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody, just ridiculously profitable nostalgia pandering to ageing Baldur's Gate fans. Pillars of Eternity might be anti-casual(or not), but it’s certainly the anti-Divinity series in its refusal of spontaneity, fun and excitement.

>a-at least the writing was good though

"No!"

The writing is dreadful; the narrative was terrible. As I played, I noticed that every time I engaged in dialogue with an NPC the game presented me with a Wiki-page style infodump instead of anything resembling actual human conversation.

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time this was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Sawyer's mind is so governed by obsession with pointless minutiae of the lore that he has no other style of writing.

Later I read a lavish, loving review of Pillars of Eternity by the same David Gaider. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kiddies are playing Obsidian games at 17 or 18, then when they get older they will go on to enjoy Dragon Age II." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you play "Pillars of Eternity" you are, in fact, trained to shill for Bioware.

Attached: 1536155212687.jpg (750x1000, 159K)

Spells in nu-DnD are boring as shit.
You pretty much just get bigger version of the same spell on each level, while in original DnD spells tended to do extremely different and weird stuff.
Knowing your spellbook was an actual thing in BG (not a hard, just had to actually *read* the fucking description).
Spellbook in recent edition are just "find what the name of this spell lvl's fireball equivalent and mage armor equivalent are".
Old spells actually felt like random shit found by an insane mage in his tower, and compiled overtime by the survivors.
New spells fell like a game designer made them. Everything is smooth, re-use the same mechanics, and does nothing complex enough that it need more than two lines of description.

must feel great to have created such great games, and then see them geting completely raped by WotSC, Beamdog, and maybe even Larian.

I would be pretty pissed as an original BG dev, and even more pissed if they fucked with one of my old tabletop chars, since most of the BG1 companions actually were the devs tabletop session avatars.

This is my only fear. Comedy writing. But the trailer was dark enough to let me hope.

No, he's being passive-aggressive in there. What he's implying is that a) "gamers don't know what they want" and b) "they are just blind nostalgiafags". Which, interestingly, are two narratives which are periodically pushed by some anonymous posters.

None. Larian doesn't know how to exit their own asses and make a game that doesn't drown in quips, nudges and winks.

>find what the name of this spell lvl's fireball equivalent and mage armor equivalent are

But that's wrong, in 5e you just literally cast fireball or armor in higher slots if you want, no equivalents.

I'm fairly sure that Forgotten Realm setting wasn't created by Bioware.

That shift to modern D&D rules is the biggest clue we get as to how the game will play. It
means saying goodbye to the Infinity Engine, for starters. “Those were great games for their
time, but next year is 2020 and you can’t do the same things you did back then. No one would
want to play it. Well, people would want to play it, but it wouldn’t meet the expectations of a
modern video game” says Vincke.
>I asked if Baldur’s Gate III would have turn-based or real-time-with-pause combat.
>“This is one of those interviews where we’ll be saying ‘We’re not talking about that yet’ a
lot,” Vincke said. “When it comes to the combat system, we prefer to show it to people rather
than talk about it. That will hammer it home. But it will still be some time before we actually
show it.”
BG3 is going to suck massive kuck

Well that's even lazier.

vancian magic is shit. it makes it harder to balance encounters because enemy mages have 100% of their resources to use against the player, but you only have a fraction of your resources. if it's too easy to rest the mechanic might as well not exist and if it's too hard everyone will just bitch and moan until devs patch the game to let you play as narcoleptics.

spell bloat was the number one culprit for 3rd edition turning into the shitshow it was. the idea that wizards should be able to do anything you can imagine while non-wizards can only swing their swords kick people in the shins will never make a good game, unless it's one where non-wizards are npc only.
