What was considered the GOAT before OOT & Mario 64 came out?
What was considered the GOAT before OOT & Mario 64 came out?
ALTTP and Super Mario World
What about Chrono Trigger & FF6? Or did people not care about JRPGs until FF7 came out?
3 is better
Super Mario Bros/3/World
Legend of Zelda/ALTTP
Pac-Man
Donkey Kong
Tetris
Doom
Games like Super Metroid and Chrono Trigger (in the West) hadn’t built much steam as GOATs yet because nobody played them
I remember people loved TMNT on the nes for the longest time
Tetris, Quake, Another World, ALTTP, Mario 3
>JRPGs
>GOAT
lol no get your slime grindan trash outta here.
ALttP and Mario 3 are still the best games in their series until the wii, and even then only arguably
In the West few people cared, in Japan Dragon Quest III was probably considered the GOAT and still is by some.
>shota vs ugly bastard
Despite what PC fags will tell you, nobody actually cared about their games until Half-Life 2 came out. For most people the debate was between ALTTP, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario World & Super Metroid.
>Resident Evil 4
Really nice.
> Delusional PC drones seething & acting like PC gaming was ever mainstream like consoles during the 90s
>faking your age on the internet
FFVII
which is still the GOAT today btw

This has an actual list from 1995. Space Invaders is #1 and the highest Mario game is Super Mario Bros. at #66.
>Was too poor to afford a PC that could play a non-bastardized version of Doom
These, no matter how much buzzwords you spam.
> 1985-1988 - Tetris
> 1988-1989 - Super Mario Bros 3
> 1990-1991 - Super Mario World
> 1991-1996 - A Link To The Past
> 1996-1998 - Super Mario 64
> 1998-2005 - Ocarina Of Time
> 2005-2006 - Resident Evil 4
> 2007-2017 - Ocarina Of Time
> 2017-2019 - Breath of the Wild
>Sonic number 4
Gee I wonder why
>8. NHL '95
some of these year gaps are inconsistent as fuck
There’s not a single PC game on that list, which is literally nothing more than a popularity contest. If PC gaming was relevant in the 90s then this wouldn’t be the case
Only gulag residents played Tetris before the NES/Game Boy release in ‘89.
Based
source for the list?
because wikipedia is not a source, but a collection of sources
one that can be easily edited all the time
Why did people stop considering RE4 the GOAT? And how long before people turn on BOTW & go back to OOT?
>What was considered the GOAT before OOT & Mario 64 came out?
No one young enough to be posting here would have been old enough then to have engaged in any serious debate about greatest game of all time. At best you were a teenager who read some dumbass gaming magazine and most of you zoomers probably weren't even born yet.
It was an older revision of a Wikipedia list, someone just updated the list count for the games
>Despite what PC fags will tell you, nobody actually cared about their games until Half-Life 2 came out.
>For most people the debate was between ALTTP, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario World & Super Metroid.
user when PC fags tell you about better games that existed during those years, they aren't trying to contradict the fact that console games were more popular. They're (wrongly, apparently) assuming that you're interested in what people of taste considered to be the best games and not just what the plebeian masses liked the most.

This is a list that came out the same month as Mario 64 in North America, which is #1 based on the editors playing the Japanese version of the game. Tetris is #2 and Super Bomberman 2 (???) is #3.
Mario 64 is still the best game how sad a 2019 game can't beat it odyssey fucking sucks compared to it.
