If he's not showing or saying anything because he doesn't feel like it, then that's extremely poor marketing on his part. Part of why indie devs keep a dev blog for updates is to prove that work is being done and to keep their game fresh in people's minds. If you just release some CG trailer and then go dead silent until release, most people are going to forget you were even making a game to begin with. It's literally in his best interests to post some form of update from time to time, especially when he has zero track record for game development to speak of and therefore zero reason anyone should trust he's actually doing something. It also shows a lack of commitment to the project if he feels he doesn't need to provide any communication about it whatsoever, which often leads to the dev just getting board with it and dropping it altogether.

I guess it doesn't mean much considering it's not like this is a KS where people game him money for this (unless he has a patreon for it that I don't know about) so I guess if that's the way he wants to do things, then that's his decision and he doesn't owe anyone anything, but it still doesn't make things look good for his project.

Either way, you can tell me I'm impatient and to shut up all you want but you have just as little evidence to believe he's actually working on it than I do against it. You're going off of blind faith over a product you know nothing about beyond extremely generic promises. I'll shut up when he actually shows some evidence that this even exists because 5 months and nothing at all on a genre as simple as a platform does not look good for an indie dev project.
