The events of 1 and Innocent Sin take place in one timeline, which is connected with other SMT games but is brought to partial ruin by Nyarly, so Philemon resets time and creates a new timeline, and with it a new universe, where he wins. This is the universe that P3-5 take place in.
So they're connected, but it's a different universe.

I mean, you guys are right, but you're also not looking at the picture completely.
The end of IS has Philemon create a new timeline that, in essence, is a universe that occupies the same space and occurs at the same time as IS, but with minor differences. These differences are causing it to run parallel to the IS universe, but it does not erase the previous universe. This is why the distinction of the "Other Side" is important in EP, because by Tatsuya keeping connection to it through his memories it keeps this universe from being capped off completely.
Now this is mostly a gambit by Philemon, because as established in other games great concepts like him, Nyarly, YHVH, Demiurge, etc. are not universal, but Multiversal. Thus, utterly defeating Nyarlypoo in one universe defeats him in all.
So while the events of Persona 1 and IS still occurred, they happened in a universe that is technically distinct from Persona EP-5's. They weren't erased, just made distinct.

Nyx the demon has nothing to do with Nyx from Persona (P3 at least, the Night Queen from P1 probably is just the demon).
The final bosses of Persona are avatars of collective consciousness that happen to have mythological names but that's about it. They're not their demon counterparts from SMT even though their demon counterparts do exist in that world since P1/P2 confirmed demons and demon summoners to be a thing in Persona too.

Well it would depend on their equipment loadout and skills they learned/equipped.
Nanashi has the hax ability of Pierce All, which basically just had it so nothing could even defend against his attacks only dodge.
Demifiend can null everything except piercing, almight, gun and earth.
Does Serph get his Demon form in this? Even just berserk form could give him a good boost.
Problem with a lot of them is that they really do tend to rely on weapons.
Beyond Demifiend I can't recall which ones tend to specialize in unarmed fighting.

I'd say Demifiend or Nanashi but I could be wrong.

Personas can only interact with anything within a certain environment i.e. dark hour, metaverse, tv world. Even in p1 and p2 the universe was still coming off the shenanigans of IF so the personas and shadows were more akin to the physical demons that romped around pre IF due to expanse shenanigans. Demons in SMT are physical beings that come from the expanse and don't really care about what humans have to think because they just go ahead and eat them, whereas Shadows as the name implies only appear due to the human gestalt and are limited by the thoughts of mankind and how we percieve reality. Basically, persona characters are faffing around in the human mind while SMT characters are dealing with creatures from another dimension that are impacting the world through physical means.

Persona 3 and Persona 4 Arena have Personas interacting with the real world. Persona 1 and 2 do as well. The dark hour while similar to the TV world/metaverse is not as much of s concrete connection to the CU which is why they need evokers

Sorry let me reiterate a point, the persona series exists in the timeline after SMT IF, because of what happened in that game the world got cut off from the expanse, in every iteration of the Persona series we see the stragglers that were left behind due to this: Philemon, Nyarlathotep, Igor, etc. etc. They function as a good example of what's happening. Over time we have lost big P and the crawling chaos, and now in P5 Igor has gone missing. Also, the environments that have facilitated shadows and personas have become more tied to the CU over time as you pointed out. What I'm trying to infer is that what is left in the persona universe from pre IF is becoming less and less powerful as time goes on and more reliant on mankind to the point where godlike beings arise because of decisions the CU is making such as : "I want to die", "What I perceive is reality", and "I do not want freedom". Before this mankind was just chess pieces used by gods and demons now at this point mankind is not ruled or used by gods because the power of the expanse is cut off leaving only a "shadow" of that original power remaining. Basically, shit in SMT is on a whole other power scale than shit in persona.

I like SMT but boy does it suffer from power creep. Every protagonist has to be stronger than the last and killed GOD (but like for real this time xInfinity). Next game is going to have the protagonist throwing galaxies as shuriken.

I remember a power leap with Nanashi but so far it seems a bit erratic with it's power jumps.
Demi-fiend to Aleph could have been an upgrade or downgrade all things considered.
He beat up Kagatsuchi but never really fought YHVH on screen.

SMT doesn't really suffer from power creep all that much really. I mean while SMT1 Hero should technically be the weakest, it's treated that if his soul ever gets freed the deities are fucked. Aleph is crazy strong that gets fucked by hax. Demi punches a concept then goes MIA. Flynn is actually quite tame, and Nanashi gets a ton of help via Dagda/friendship, Satan, and Stephen to accomplish his shit.

the real question is what made Demi so fucking angry (his strongest attack is Rage) that he was the perfect vessel for Lucifer's experimental brain parasite that unlocked his inner demon chad, was it that he didn't get to smash that fine teacher ass before the vortex world opened up on him?

Demi-fiend really never does one truly edgy thing in the game, it's more of a fan thing with Nocturne and Megaten's general aesthetic and tone.

As for why he was chosen you have to consider Lucifer's other options, which were Yuko (who was Hikawa's puppet), Chiaki (who was a uptight bitch), and Isamu (who is a self centered nihilist).

Demi-fiend is made to be as typical as possible, he's whatever the player wants to see him as. When you see his room in the Freedom ending it looks like the most typical, generic teenager room, his personality is to be decided by the player.

Space Marine becomes an immortal super human living on the moon who kills off all the demons every time they try to invade earth again.

If we take away the intrinsic abilities as well (i.e. Demi-fiend doesn't have his demon powers, DDS crew can't turn into demons)
Then the top 4 I'd bat for would be: Space Marine (military training), Serph (trained to be the best soldier for the Asura Project), Aleph (dude is pretty much super human anyway), and Raidou (trained to fight demons from a young age)

I guess IV:A kind of recontextualizes Demifiend as Luci's attempt at making a God Slayer.

Those messiahs were all bitches that died in their world, Steven had to buff them so they wouldn't die again after you beat him. Space Marine is the only one that didn't die like a bitch in any of his timelines which is why he isn't in the DLC.
