It was avenger, did vastly superior damage in base form than the shockingly weak super mode. Wasn't hard though, just kind of slow post-the area where the enemies all have guns or mechs.

I believe I quit at pandemonium as it was the end-game at the time.
Then came back later to try other classes but lost interest at or close to Ghent.
Its a shame this combat system is wasted on such overly easy braindead enemies thanks to it technically being an MMO. And bad maps. Like they're either boring walks through identical visually boring areas or disgustingly gimmicky messes.

Damn, how long ago did you play? Demonize was shit for a long time but hasn't been shit in years. You spend 100% of your time in it now. And I hate to repeat what you've already heard but endgame does require proper party play and effort, though you can still opt for the solo mode of the raid/tayberrs dungeons (for lesser rewards).

All the effort is concentrated in Tayberrs / Fiend War though, if you want the leveling process to be tougher you're playing the wrong game.

also if you quit when pandemonium was the end-game then that was probably when avenger was low-tier

Full 90 grads with beast accessories, triumph, and upgraded armor set can do fiend with just the Taybes special equip set (assuming all the other shit is in-line; damage title, pet, enchants, avatars / emblems, etc). With no beast accessories, you'd likely be better off saving for the armor set (and with no triumph, you'll need sky legacy). Either way you're gonna need SOME tayberrs equipment.

Sounds hopeless for me then since I gave up after just doing armor on two guys...

It ain't hopeless, it just means you have a bit to go. With your gear you can skip the majority of the Harlem epic grind and go almost straight into Tayberrs, and between the three Tayberrs boxes you'll be able to get when the summer events really start on Tuesday and the selectable sky legacy box from leveling two event characters you'll be fiend war ready in, like, three weeks at most. You might even be able to run Fiend War guide mode without any Tayberrs equipment come its release next week, but don't quote me on that.

Sense and civ ain't enough for party tay from the few parties I've sneaked into, though. And I was going to open that high five box on my enchantress...

Well I did say almost, didn't I? Swap that old, busted hotness out with harlems and you're golden.

And if you're giving the sky legacy to enchantress then your enchantress will be the one that's fiend ready in like three weeks. Either way you're in there.

But then the problem there is that I've never done FW, and enchantress is high IQ on top of that...

Love my boy monk but he still seems like he needs a lot more work from the player than most other characters. FGrappler I hear is also no longer any good which is a shame.
How exactly do I build monk and avenger now? Just dump points into the bottom of the skill tree? As for avenger, do I just mash the skull button while using skills?

Avenger's main playstyle now is to play in permanent transformation mode. One of his buff skills, painful rapture iirc, among it's regular buff now also adds extra time to his 1st awakening transformation every time it ticks(~8 seconds, it adds ~6 seconds) so net result is that your first awakening will cooldown way before you run out of duration normally allowing you to stay transformed for the entire dungeon. You'll still want points in devil strike though since even if you can't use it while transformed it still affects the level of falling soul.

I was EU and there never were any raids. I'm not sure if 'raids' were added at the time but the whole team finder thing was dead even at the very end of the game because even I on my apparently relatively weak class could solo it with 0 issues.

This uses the stock JP XML, which has a bunch of issues. It obviously misses DFOG exclusive stuff, one glaring typo in the JP npk themselves is inquisitor's cooldown line being "inquistor" instead, some npcs actually have less lines than their KR versions, leading to the game falling back on those. So far I've only encountered Joshua for that, but there may be more.
Plus there's some overlap issues that are made more apparent with the JP lines, like mage's launcher and witch's lollipop crush. Battlemage chasers used to point to unused KR ones, but they seem to have fixed that since I last checked.
What I do is take the DFOG xml, and merge most of the important JP differences with winmerge. Then any time there's small updates I compare that to the updated XMLs as needed.

You can change your subclass whenever you want before you hit level 50, but it costs gold after the first time you do it. You can also preview them I think.

I don't think you could ever charge it, but in terms of gameplay, he's still fun. Flying into enemy groups with Outrage Break of pulling them in with Bloody Twister still makes me smile. Thirst can still be charged, and if you're feeling daring, drain your health to near empty to have Bloody Cross activate.

Just started yesterday with F Grappler. How am I supposed to get chain connection to work? I could do it on the punching bag in training but I can't seem to do it on actual enemies. You just have to grapple and hit the button once they're grabbed right?

First few times I played I tried the Berserker because it satisfied my edgy teen lizard brain and a while later I tried out Soul Bringer or whatever its called to see what it was like, but it has been so long since then that I can't really remember how I felt about either of them
Overall though general rule of thumb for me is that I tend to gravitate to the more bruiser playstyle or sometimes things a bit esoteric but very effective
But at the end of the day I can say I just want to kick somethings shit in super hard

You can only use Chain Connection on enemies that are 2big or 2stationary for your regular animation to be used on. For those you just press Space during or after the animation.
