oh yiss... Time to dust off that oculus and feel, for 80 short hours, that it wasn't a complete waste of money.

I have it on GOG, but only have a PSVR headset. Won't buy it again but on ps4 just because of this, and I've had no luck trying to get PSVR to work on my PC (iVRy, Trinus PSVR, didn't work)
I have to give credit where credit is due, years of free updates for this game are a really nice gesture.
>VR
It's a meme gimmick fad that is already over.
Buyt if you already have it, there's no reason not to at least try it.
After seeing what a huge difference it made in subnautica, I'm excited to see what it will do for a game that it was practically made for.

Literally the only people who dislike VR are the ones who can't afford it.
Is this game actually decent to play alone? Last I played it was a lot of grinding, a lot of go-here, go-there, and confusing crap that had no story, no direction.
I don't know what I was doing, and I needed upgrades or something and just got tired of constantly going everywhere with nothing to do but grind for mats, and having very little storage.
NMS flopped so hard that people aren't even angry any more, they just don't give a shit.
>Play alone
Absolutely not.
If you really like space exploration game, yes.
If not, then you should play with a friend.
Overall it's fun
cope with your VR headset on, nigger
The game it is now wouldn't ever turn anyones heads to a huge degree,
it is however a very competent niche game if at least half the things it does right appeal to you.
I turn it on every once in a while and explore a random planet and it's a very comfortable experience for the most part.
The new update is supposed to be 3 updates in one package so lets see if it'll at least target about half the problems people still have with it.
two+ years of huge free content updates will do that.
Are they increasing planet variety? I got tired of playing it because every goddamn planet was the same.
I enjoy space travel, but I dislike grinding for mats to constantly upgrade ships.
It seems like I should avoid getting into this, but exploring space is wicked. I could just go on Space Engine, but it runs like ass on my computer if I want to make it look pretty.
planet variety was greatly increased last update
You dont need to grind mats, once you have a base with a few converter and refineries you can just make unlimited shit if you arent retarded.
I want to know more about the online part of the update.
>huge free content
No, you already paid for it, it wasn't included in the base game like promised. You're literally gloating that you got content that was promised for launch TWO YEARS AFTER IT WAS PROMISED.
Cultist tier like Scam Citizen.
>I enjoy space travel
You're not going to have many options. Maybe the new X game, if you don't mind rogue likes there's that rogue like game everspace.
I honestly recommend watching Vinny's streams.
You'll get a pretty unfiltered representation of what to expect.
It also just helps to know what to do, where to go and what to exploit in the game to have a relatively grindless experience.
If you get it for like 20 bucks I think the game has a good amount of stuff to offer imo.
Or just, you know, pirate it and check it out yourself when the update drops.
I personally bought the game for 20 dollars on sale when they released the underwater update. Not everyone is a complete retard and bought the game on launch when it was so obviously not gonna be good.
I expect Sea of Thieves style. 15 players per server.
Just a number that makes sense for an indie game.
So, is there any game yet?
Is it not still just shooting the planet to gather materials, then hopping to the next star system and doing the same over and over again with some tacked on driving and base building features?
What is there to do?
there is a pretty lengthy story quest.
So what’s this new multiplayer angle? Is the whole universe shared now, akin to what they originally promised?
>akin to what they originally promised?
they never promised an mmo like experience lmao. instanced multiplayer, what they did promise, was included in one of the very first updates years ago.
They haven't revealed too much info about the multiplayer just yet.
But apparently it's going to be more like an MMO in comparison to NEXT which was just Coop multiplayer.
Which consists of...?
Is it just shooting the planet to gather materials, then hopping to the next star system and doing the same over and over again with some tacked on driving and base building features?
I can't imagine playing a game in VR for 80 hours. No VR game over 2-3 hours has kept my attention.
So u had to wait 4 years for day 0 promised features literally printed on the box art + promo media and this is somehow ok/acceptable to current Yea Forums? Fuck I hate fucking snoy faggot zoomers
Well, and a story.
You can make every game sound shitty if you describe them like that. "Oh, what do you do in Dark Souls besides run around and swing your sword at enemies over and over again?"
stop being a crumb
That's probably because "VR" games are meme gimmick boring pieces of shit not worth time or money to play. Regular games ported to VR proper though are extremely fun because they take the best of both worlds and combine them into one. Come August 14, you will be playing an inferior version of no man's sky if you do not have a competent PC VR headset and controllers.
>stop being a crumb
Fuck up nms devs
Not really. The main problem is it's so isolating it just makes me feel bad to use it for too long. I like Skyrim VR but it just depresses me to be in that world for so long. I had to start putting on Twitch streams on a virtual screen above me to play it for long stretches of time.
There is. It's been fleshed out quite a bit at this point. This new update is just more content.
Hope this shit supports ASW 2.0 because there's no way my 970 is going to be able to play this at 90 FPS in VR
I have a 980ti and I'm even worried.
There are space battles now and planets also have these shrines and other places that reward you for exploration.
You can defend a Freighter from being attacked by space pirates and sometimes they just literally hand it to you offering you to be the captain instead of paying loadsamone for it.
There's still a large majority of mining and all that but there's a bunch more to do now, a recent update also made the randomly generated environment and structures/creatures you find more interesting.
You can also find these crashed freighters and dig around them to find keys to vaults that contain shit, or find an infested building full of these monster eggs.
When you destroy one of them a horde of monsters that can 3-hit-kill you come out of the ground to fuck you up.
The eggs for example drop very valuable shit that you can sell for money.
There are also these abandoned ruins that have tons of these glowing orbs t hat sell for good money,
but picking them up is "illegal" causing all the police drones to hunt you on the planet unless you hide away. Hiding in space even activates space ships hunting you down instead.
Combine that with a quest system that actually utilizes a lot of these things I just listed instead of just mining foir materials all the time and I think it's pretty solid for the most part.
I pretty much only ever mine for the necessities like fuel and just do everything else unrelated to it the rest of the time. Exploring underwater biomes is pretty cool.
Dunno what else to tell you, I played a $20 indie game and got my moneys worth out of it and I'm sure the new 3 updates in 2 weeks will probably make that easier to achieve.
It's aight.
You have a Rift? I just run stuff at 45 FPS now and let ASW do the rest. You really don't even notice except on stuff connected to your hand
This game ran like shit on my 6GB 1060 months ago and now that I have a 2070 I still have no fucking clue if it won't run like complete garbage on it, let alone VR.
They've apparently optimized the shit out of it since it needs to run on PSVR now.
If it's on PSVR I have to imagine they've optimized quite a bit. The original ran at 1080p/30 and now it has to run at a higher frame rate at 60
>1060 to 2070
you're fucking fine.
like, in the last couple months? Or is this supposed to take effect with Beyond?
Got the game on a key site a few weeks ago. Game is a blast now. I love base building and modding space to look awesome
I'm super psyched to see what the mysterious third branch of the update is gonna be. I'm assuming it's changes to gameplay and stuff, I really hope they add more things to actually do in space.
>The ability to exit your ship in-space and use the jetpack to maneuver around and do repairs to your ship, draining air similarly to going underwater the whole time
>Derelict freighters full of biological horrors and loot
>More interesting derelict space stations (they already exist but don't have much going on with them right now)
>Actual faction warfare in certain star systems, with fleets of freighters and small ships going at it
>Creatures with biome-specific adaptations (for example snow biome creatures having fur, sand biome creatures being able to dig in the sand, creatures that can perch in trees, ect)
>Asteroid landing with unique resources to find and possible enemies to encounter
>A "Cosmic Horror", similar to a Biological Horror or Abyssal Horror, but only encountered in space and big enough to damage ships. Possibly squid-like and able to hide in asteroids, bursting out to surprise players who get too close
Doubt all this stuff would be in the update, but I can dream, right?
I just want more planetary variety, specifically making it so planets can have more than one biomr
supposed to take effect with beyond.
dreamin's what makes shit come to life.
Poorfag
>cant afford
Can and did, it’s a gimmick still.
Also, can’t you guys come up with any other argument?
So what VR headset is apparently the best choice right now?
I'm gonna be honest with you, most VR games aren't anything to write home about.
But holy fucking shit ever since I played Sprint Vector like twice at a friends house I want it so bad.
>you got content that was promised for launch TWO YEARS AFTER IT WAS PROMISED.
They actually still haven't added everything they promised.
What else did they promise? I never followed this whole mess.
No man's sky now is like Destiny with the objectives of Minecraft and somewhat Fortnite-like basebuilding. Also a really cool space flight sim that none of those have
I think the original oculus is best overall. Best bang for the buck and still has the best controllers. Unless those knuckles are finally out.
Any words on cross play with consoles while using VR??
If no man's sky was more like The Outer Wilds it would be the best game ever
They aren't illegal, according to the lore these bots are some kind of ancient self-replicating (?) defense mechanism, or police bot. I don't believe they're used by any currently alive species. One of the races is in an eternal war with them.
I was just simplifying it for explanation sake, but yes you're right that's pretty much what actually happens.
