XIV's recent expansion has been positively received in terms of story, characters and antagonist, while also having excellent OST and the medieval high fantasy with a mix of sci-fi setting that a lot of fans love. That's already 70% of what's needed for a good FF game
Just give it good combat and a proper overworld exploration and there you have it

I know FF will never go back to the thematic snes/PS1 era, but, I like to imagine in alternative timeline, each FF would be thematically unique with experimental gameplay rather than creating in universe sequels.
