It's mixing Chrono Trigger lore with something like Back to the Future, where having anything but the "correct" timeline happening causes a person to fade out. That doesn't happen with Chrono Trigger, where Marle was able to completely pretend to be her own ancestor and be fine. I guess the artist had an idea and either wasn't that familiar with the details, or didn't care enough since it would invalidate the whole image.

How was CT so perfect lads? It almost seems like a coincidence that everything went so right. I struggle to think of a JRPG that delivers a better overall package than it.

The actual genius of Chrono Trigger is the pacing. Theres no filler. Theres no downtime. A first time blind run of the game takes a measly 17-18 hours (in contrast you wouldnt have even unlocked the class system in Dragon Quest VII in that time frame)
Theres no bullshit and it makes the game enjoyable the whole way through. I can't think of any other jrpg structured the same way
