Why does there seem to be a huge taste gap among the gamers who are close in age?
In my work place, anyone above 25-26 have their best games from SNES, PS1, or PS2 and some are even fans of classic JRPGs like FFVII, which is my 5 year age gap to them doesn't get in the way when talking about games, but when I asked my youngest folks (21-22 on average), their answer blew me away because they said they did have played those classic consoles but they didn't have a bond with them at all.
I don't rally fall for boomer/zoomer memes but I still wonder what's caused such a difference.
>I don't rally fall for boomer/zoomer memes Oh fuck off you blithering faggot

How many times are you going to spam this cancer election nigger

Born in 1997 here, somehow grew up playing shitton of old games on emulators.
Dylan Bailey
Imagine the oldest zoomers will soon start calling themselves boomers and blaming anyone younger than them for the fall of games.
John Moore
it's honestly pathetic. do people have no self awareness? do they not remember that "old man yells at sky" Simpsons image?
Ayden Cook
I remember when this board hated on n64/PS1 babies and thought that video games were ruined by 3d
Mason Sullivan
Damn, I must be the youngest boomer in my area.

Actually 1980-1999 is Millenial
Jeremiah Foster
It's not so much the actual historical generation as more a mindset.
Aiden Rodriguez
The oldest boomer, born in 1980 here. Proud of being the last tale of Generation-X and not a Millennial. By the way, do you think I can train my 2 year old son with my old NES games?

Because as a kid you're more impressionable by the things that surrounds you. Kids who grew up playing SNES, PS1/2 grew up playing those games at a certain age and everyone talked about it. Younger kids played it, probably some as hand-me-down games, but everyone else their age stopped talking about it, they were talking about newer games.

I think the jump between people born in the mid-90s and earlier and people born later is just really big. It's all about their relationships with the internet, cell phones, and computers in the forms of either laptops or PCs. When I was a teenager everybody, even the in crowd, would sit on their computer or their laptops after school all day. My brother who is only five years my junior doesn't share that at all, and now kids today might never use a computer at home unless they're writing a paper. And even then, an embarrassing amount of papers get written on phones.
Adrian Murphy
Are you kind of stupid?
People who grew up playing a specific game tend to have a nostalgic bond with that game. I have a lot of nostalgia for the original Legend of Zelda, Mega Man, Mega Man X, and Super Mario Bros 3. They were games I played a lot growing up. I don't have the same nostalgia for Ocarina of Time or Super Mario 64. They were games that came out when I was an adult, which I played through once and stopped. People who are 5 years older or younger are going to have an entirely different set of games which they'd played, possibly even just due to their age range.
To explain your image: kids born in 1990 would've been around 10 when the PS1 was out, and so asking parents for the "more mature" system as a result. Kids born in 2000 would've been 5 when the Wii came out; their parents would've decided to but the kid-friendly Wii or even a cheap N64 instead. So of course their childhood experience would've been different, because they were exposes to different games, even if we're talking about games in the same generation.
It's not much different from kids who grew up with NES vs. young adults who poured their time into CRPGs and adventure games. If you don't think there are people nostalgic for Atari and who don't see the big deal with NES titles, then you're just kidding yourself.

why the fuck does this image have ps1 under boomer and OOT under zoomer? Those two things existed at the same time.
Your math doesn't add up. You say that you have a 5 year age gap with people who are 25-26 and up putting you at 20/21 and yet you then call people who are 21-22 "my youngest folks" You need to spend more time formulating your larps retard.
You're favorite game is the one that got released when you were 13 years old. Prove me wrong.
Angel Butler
Damn, you're right.

>1995 >Morrowind Nah. 2008 was pretty shit.
Isaiah Morgan
>Shining Force >Ultima Underworld >Ultima 7 >Kirby's Dreamland >Ecco the Dolphin >Super Mario Kart >Sonic 2 >Alone in the Dark My favorite game certainly isn't in there, but that's not a bad selection of games to be released. On the other hand, it was also the year that the CD-i and Night Trap came out, so it was hardly all good games that year.
