My first level in SMM2: N1C 6N4 SQG

It's a SMB1 style level in the forests at night with changing swamp levels. You need to collect all 5 pink coins in order to finish the level. There are checkpoints before the more difficult parts of the level, overall difficulty is medium-hard.

The idea was to make a level using the nighttime ghost house theme without creating a level that’s total bullshit, so I used POW Blocks to light up the way to go in different ways. I’m not to familiar with making ghost house levels but I tried to give this level some atmosphere through the sound effects and decorations.

Bit Crusade 3 is an adventure series of Mario levels that play in the traditional sense (scaling difficulty, hidden rooms and level theming). So if you like traditional Mario stages you’ll probably like these. The “game” will eventually utilize all 5 styles so there’s a little something for everyone. Every stage has five red coins hidden within that unlock a super bonus room at the end.

After leaving the furnace, Mario finds himself inside an underground cave system. NSMB underground stage that utilizes that gametypes moveset, as well as some propeller shroom shenanigans.

Feedback is appreciated and returned. If you got a really good level I’ll likely make a short webm of it to showcase it. If you decide to take the plunge and play them I hope you enjoy them. If you complete everything up to the current stage let me know and I'll play all your levels if I haven't already.

Gonna knock out some more profiles then get cracking on 4-2.

Instead of a red coin challenge room maybe make it more of an adventure type stage. Pick an environment like a factory, or swamplands or whatever and then divy up the screens between however many people you wanna have in on it.

Would be a more involved process for whoever would do it but it mite b kewl.

Well I beat it, and I can't say it was particularly good. It was a decent concept, but completely ruined by having zero direction at any point in the level. Should I be going faster? Slower? Should I be going above this obstacle or below it? This issue should be fairly fixable with coins or arrows giving you a slight indication of what you should be doing, because i spent 10 minutes just working out what to do on the dry bones section. I was almost certain that I should be ground pound cancelling to kill all of them at once, but then the lava would never line up with the twister section. The level would be improved if it didnt have rising and falling lava, it forces you to play at one pace, and doesn't let you go faster or slower at your own will.

What do you guys do for your comments? I like to draw stuff and I use the controller so I just start randomly drawing colours and if it starts to look like something then I try to shape it into that. They usually end up looking really weird so I hope you guys enjoy them.

Numbah 1 baby. Cool stage. Only complaint is section 2 is cheesable, you can re-enter the door over and over to skip doing the challange. Easiest way to fix this is ? blocks with vines in them. They'll respawn if you re-enter the room

That was pretty good. I don't know how I made it passed the skeleton ride first try but I panicked and landed on it after it was falling and it turns out that's the way to get across lol. The ending was pretty clever and I was glad to figure it out after about 5 tries.

Those are very fair points. I thought the level was fairly self explanatory with the enemy/obstacle layout but I could’ve definitely used more coins. I also thought the lava would’ve been a fun curveball but it does restrict your speed to like a medium pace, not too fast but not too slow. I’m tempted to either delete and reupload or make a newer version and upload that. Thanks lad.

The use of the moon and sound effects was creative and an idea you should expand on, but the moon can be a little sluggish when lighting the way up sometimes and you’ll just sit there for a minute. There’s a softlock on top of the door with a semisolid platform.

I feel like there’s 3 sections from 3 different stages mashed into one here. Like you said you throw in a lot of experiments, but rather than using a bunch in the same level, try and expand on one in interesting ways. I thought being able to smash down on the Mario pixel art from earlier in the level was neat.

I’m gonna be brutally honest and tell you I just didn’t find this one fun. Running up those blocks for what feels like twenty minutes just isn’t fun to play. Sorry.

Extreme difficulty, uncleared stage with 2 checkpoints. There will be at least a few nsmbu maneuvers that you haven't seen before.

there are no differences between characters, rite?

It's a bug. It's speculated the developers originally intended for there to be gameplay differences between Mario and Luigi but scrapped the idea. However, there might be some bits left over that have been causing problems. One known bug that is character-specific is the one that causes Cat Luigi to float quickly into the upper boundary of the screen if he hits his head while crawling.

In the new super mario bros u theme they have slightly different fireball trajectories!! That's how I differentiated between what character you're using

Been cruising through these, they aren’t bad but there’s a lot of trial and error in some stages. Noting really cryptic but I highly doubt anyone that plays these will be able to finish them in a single shot unless you have bullet time turned on, The Dungeon of yang is my favorite so far.

New level. Bowser Chase 2: Bowser's revenge. This is a sequel to Bowser Chase. It's a Super Mario theme to Castle where Bowser chases you throughout the level. It's extremely hard, in my opinion harder than the first Bowser Chase.

Pretty frreaky. The bit where you had to jump on those narrow columns after those brick cages containing the bombs were destroyed was a tad annoying, but I liked it overall.

The theme of this course is really cool, love the geometry especially. My only complaint is that it's a little repetitive and the checkpoints feel very spaced out.

Dire outpost was really hard but definitely fun. I love the idea of having you choose when to use the checkpoint, it definitely adds a lot of strategy. Unfortunately, I got curious at the very end and decided to do the secret with the bombs and died, and I didn't want to replay the entire level.

Oh I'm an insomniac alright, but I don't really stay up till Dawn all that much. Just 3 or 4 a.m. I mean it's fine to play video games until then, but when I'm working I feel incredibly sleepy. I was just out of it that entire time, a zombie.

Thanks! Some have said using the SMB theme was a waste and should have just used SMB3 or SMW as it would make the course visually better.
I wanted to used the SMB forrest cuz it was new and it rather like the simplicity of the graphics and gameplay for SMB.

I liked
The overall mood of this course, it does dark and foreboding really well. The vertical sections particularly were fun.

I disliked
That Nintendo made it so that if you die whilst holding a key after you hit a checkpoint, all red coins are lost so you have to go back and get them all again. I also tried jumping off the big cheep cheep to get the red coin floating over the poison, not realizing that you can't bounce on cheep cheeps when they're in the poison and that I was supposed to use the Dry Bones Shell instead which was further up, so I died a lot trying to get that one. Overall this level had some great ideas, and was fun at times, but it had uneven execution.

They're versatile and have good AI. They actually run at you instead of being passive.

For fucks sake these multiplayer stages feel more like fucking dice rolls than actually skill based when you combine it with the shit connection.

Let me give you guys a little tip for good levels.

>not puzzles
>no underwater
>not limited time
>not kaizo

Give me some straight platforming levels with tight jumps (no don't put spikes everywhere!) and it should take between 30 seconds and two minutes to complete. Just like most levels from Super Mario World and Mario 3. I know some people must enjoy the kaizo and the Puzzle-Solving (I have played a couple fun ones) but it would be great if the MAJORITY of levels were regular platforming instead of constantly wading through puzzle levels and super short levels and kaizo levels.

Thank you for playing my level mystery man. Yeah there's some cheese there actually where you could just keep spinning on the spiny. You can also spin on top of the Thwomps in the second section, but honestly I thought about it and it doesn't bother me that much.
I figured if people think of doing that they might feel smart for it and I'd just leave it up as is.

You can make a speedrun stage that's actually difficult and isn't a 20 second time limit so people are actually competing for record times instead of trying not to die at the goal line

The sawblades took me about 5-10 mins worth of trying, once I realized I could stand at the very edge it was just a matter of landing the right way on my tippy toes.

I have been enjoying the bulk of your stages actually, some of them are quite challenging but nothing really impossible now that I've got the long jump one done. I wouldn't consider myself an expert at mario games but I'm decent at them and I love them dearly, I'll give pretty much every level I play a fair shake to the best of my ability unless it's retardedly difficult or super tedious.

Some of your levels I really liked were the Triwizard Tournament, which is my favorite so far, Soaring Skyscrapers and Desert Run, those all look and play excellently I think. I'm on A Squidtastic Night right now, trying to fanangle these blooper jumps. Thanks for playing my new one btw, I'm gearing up to work on the next one soon after I clear the rest of yours.

They take longer to make and get less plays. There’s a reason that gimmick levels that hardly evolve past a basic but novel concept constantly flood the leaderboard.

Hey if you can do the claw speedrun, the sawblades, desert run, the airship and the squids at night I'd say that covers a whole lot of stuff from controlled jumps to going very fast to spinjumping on bombs, twirling in the air to stall in NSMBU, good timing with the cannonballs and so on. You're definitely a good player in my eyes then.

I actually feel rather bad about the Triwizard Tournament because I just know there would be much better ways to represent the tasks if I was a more capable creator. I also wish I could have given Voldemort more health, would really be cool if they gave us a powerup in the editor mode that you can drag on any enemy and turn them into a "boss".

The goal can be reached through any of four different sub levels (whose entrances are hidden throughout the level in differently colored pipes), each with a unique platforming challenge. Final path and bonus boss locked behind a (totally optional) red coin door. Built for replayability.

Large, open-ended level filled with lots of secrets and collectables. However, a speedrun path is also built in. You can choose to take it slow and explore, or you can try to finish as quickly as possible. Fun level to try for the WR. No red coins.

Themed level built around exploration, platforming, and red coin collection. Find all five in order to proceed. Partial water level.

People who say that don’t understand that those styles are drastically different from one another aesthetically. 3’s forest theme is actually a pipe theme and both SMW and Wii have a much more upbeat look and feel to them compared to SMB’s more mysterious and dark forest theme. SMB would’ve been the only way you could’ve gotten this particular aesthetic and it works fine as it is. I’ll never understand why people refuse to play certain styles, they all allow for unique levels you can’t find in the other styles thematically.

Beat Squid Night, I liked it but it took so many tries for me to beat it. I kept dying on the giant arrow spike cause once you jump on those bloopers you can't see the blue skull platform again until its back on the high part of the track so I misjudged the jump a lot there. Also the first time I made it to the end I died at the squid right before the flag like a dumbass lol, some cuss words were thrown.

I played up until the last boss... am I expected to shuttle shells across that floor each time? That's a bit too tedious for me.

The rest of the course was really fun though, visually it could use some sprucing up but the challenges were nice and spiced up the bossfights.

Thanks! I was trying to make the giant enemies seem territorial and make them have a deep voice since they're giant, and that was the only sound fitting enough. But it is a bit overdone now that I replay it, but it's too late now.

I tried to remake the bosses as close as I could to those of Sonic 1, while keeping them at least somewhat fun.

The final boss of Sonic 1 is pretty tedious too, so I think that fits.

Luckily that means that most people probably won't see the broken wall breaking trigger at the end. I only caught it completing a clear check but were too lazy to do the whole level over in one go.

I went ahead and played all your courses. They're pretty good, i think I liked lava crate castle the most. The ending section can be cheesed though, you can just stack crates as builder Mario, you don't need the twister at all.
Also of course the superball level is your most popular, this game is largely populated by small children who like easy levels.
