I think you're underestimating how difficult it is to make a console.

SNK can barely affort to scrape together a budget to a single video game. Trying to put out a console on the market under these circumstances is very strange at best, completely idiotic at worst.

Its just another rom emulator for the old arcade board, not a next gen console

Honestly off the shelf computer parts or ARM tech are viable compoents. They can do literally just that. The incentives would be that they're more affordable to work with than the other guys since Nintendo has certain provisos that developers aren't so keen about even if their grass is greener than Sony's.

Video games have become too large for actual video game companies. It's the reason why the big names are not associated exclusively with video games and Nintendo is a relic of the past that cannot compete symmetrically.

Like the other user said, they could just license everything out to a 3rd party manufacturer. Plus, odds are it isn't going to be a mid-tier PC clone like PS4 and bone. Probably something really cheap to develop that's weak.

Even if they fail miserably I want more video game companies making video game consoles. Someone other than banks, or whoever the hell else decides to join.

Nintendo Switch is selling more than Xbone on a weekly basis. It's going to outsell bone's lifetime sales very soon. Also Nintendo's handhelds consistently beat the Mucrosoft's hardware. Nintendo is proof that vidya companies can make the industry great again. Fuck your Jewish conglomerates.

I don't think there is enough point if they don't have the proper funds to actually compete with the ps4 and the bone, or fuck even with the switch.
The best scenario I can see is that they manage to put something mediocre out. Ok good, then what? What will be the point if nobody will buy it because why would they do that when they can just get better consoles instead?
Aside from sticking it to "big business and banks" fuck yeah, I don't see much of value in this.

It's just an nvidia shield that comes with a dock. They've even said before that they aren't directly competing with ms/sony in the console market. They really aren't competing, they're just finding their own markets.

If they make enough bread from the classic maybe they can afford to develop a proper console in the future. I don't really see a downside for us at least. If you don't like it, don't buy it. If it does turn out to be good then it encourages more vidya businesses to enter the race. If it doesn't, then they will figure it isn't a good investment and it will diacourage shitters from trying.

Basically, even if it is bad for SNK, we as consumers basically lose nothing if they enter. It can't hurt us is what I'm saying. Unless there are some console warriors in here that feel threatened by SNK of all companies.

They've done this shit twice already. First was the the Neo Geo X, which was bad. Then they made the Neo Geo Mini, which was even worse. Why do they keep trying?

And Xbone and PS4 are just low tier PCs. What's your point? This Nvidia shield is thriving. Nintendo is anything by a relic at this point. It's getting the most third party support it's recieved since SNES, and is selling more units than Xbone, a non-vidya company.

I feel like people have no idea what the fuck current SNK is like and just say shit like this. SNK has Chinese conglomerate backing and has been making a fuck ton on mobile games and licensing. They've got plenty of money right now and a parent company who is interested in expanding SNK as much as possible.

I'm not saying they shouldn't and it would be bad for the consumer or that it's a bad thing.
I'm saying it makes no sense and I have no idea why they would do that if they can't even afford to budget a video game, and ultimately there will be no real value to the customer with that console either.

By all means they should do it if they really want to, it's just like looking at people sitting in a car driving with 300km/h approaching solid conceret wall. Sure, they can do it it's their kink, but...why.

How much do any of us in here even know about SNK's financial state? I'm hearing some anons here claim they're actually in a good position, as well as being back by major conglomerates, while others are saying SNK is bankrupt or junk status.

I know they haven't made another Metal Slug in a while, but maybe they're focusing their resources elsewhere?

All I know is that it was a miracluous fluke they didn't went under by KOF13 actually turning out decent despite the odds. Their 3D games looks like 10+ years behind in technology, all fogriven because apparently they have no money.
If they actually have money and the best they can do is KOF14 and Samurai Shodown tier, then I kinda feel sorry for them.

They're doing okay but nothing amazing. Since 14 they haven't had a failure but they also haven't had a huge hit. They have stated they want to grow to AAA size though.

13 was a huge loss for them, which is when they got bought out by the Chinese. Unlike 13, 14 was actually a financial success and Heroines sold 300k which is good for what it was. 14 looked bad cause of inexperience mostly, Heroines was just a side thing but improved a tiny bit and Samsho was a huge step up. If Samsho had come first the whole SNK can't into 3D thing wouldn't be brought up.

I've seen and heard some terrible things about it, like how its HDMI out is god awful.

Neo Geo X was licensed and they pulled the license once the final product was shit.
