I felt the same while playing Rorona. I don't think Totori has the same feeling, but it's still a great game and absolutely recommended if you liked Rorona.

Nope, it's good. It's really polished, has a good amount of content and it continues the Arland story well.

The point of Lulua not being Rorona's biological daughter but just some random kid she saw at an orphanage and decided to adopt is showing that anyone can be an alchemist and take up Rorona's legacy, similar to Atelier Totori.

The adoption was also to keep everyone a virgin and not piss off otakus.
