most of it has to do with how awkward it is
the camera, the geometry, none of it is made for the mechanics it has in place

anyways make the combat similar to a platinum game, not copy or replicate devil may cry or bayonetta. but it already has great potential for an action game. the three different styles (jupiter already gives lots of hyperarmor and allows you to block, sort of like royalguard) and in general the abilities you have could lend themselves to a combat system well
the camera is one of the biggest issues and to be fair it's rather hard to make a good camera in combat when you can turn upside down but I'm sure it's possible to make a little better
it doesn't have to be super hard as long as you can do really cool shit and the combat doesn't feel awkward and tedious

I don't necessarily mean it should mean an action game, I should have rephrased that, I just meant that they should have made the combat like an action game since there's a lot of potential there. it should still be fairly easy in comparison to platinum games, but they could also push the combat with challenges and sidequests and stuff
it should still keep it's focus, otherwise it could lose it's charm, which is a large part of the game's appeal
QTEs are fine the way they are as finishers although they can be a little awkward, but it's not a big deal, the game should focus on those really good moments it has and making them hit harder, I'm completely fine with them

absolutely, one of the things I complained about was how the geometry sucked for sliding and most of your powers in general, I think they could do a lot more with the traversal so you can do cool things to travel faster so the optimal way isn't always shifting with Jupiter style at full speed towards your target

The art style and feel of the games would no doubt still be there but I'm talking more about limiting how much they could do, they obviously want to make big worlds and areas with lots of effects going on considering how much the framerate can drop in 2 with explosions and the stomp power with Jupiter mode and the director said he was waiting for new technology. GRR would probably run fine at like 900p/720p 60fps but if they were to get the series and port 2 aswell there will be problems with framerate and resolution. The closest thing we will have to GR on Nintendo is Kat's inclusion in smash but that will never happen.

I was thinking it couldn't be too much more demanding than breath of the wild but I guess it could be the npcs and how dense the world is with objects. while I do think it was good that they tried to make it so you could interact with the world more in 2 with emotes and stuff, I think there's way too many npcs, they should reduce them quite a bit with exception to some sidequests and stuff. some object and polygon culling in the environments wouldn't hurt either. especially since the geometry makes sliding so fucking annoying, the npcs sort of get in the way as well
there's a lot to consider I guess, but I don't want the art and environments to suffer, some of the more interesting areas like where you got lunar style had a great atmosphere to them which reminded me of some metroid areas and I wish we got to see more of that, I think every area should be that interesting and have it's own unique atmosphere

The loading isn't that bad and I never encountered any noticeable pop in of any kind but it could be different for others. Wonder when I replace the original with a new SDHD if it'll change.

I dont think the game is badly optimized considering the characters' faces are low framrate/choppy. I think that's just the PS4's outdated laptop CPU, but do you really think ithe switch would be able to run it well? Unless they get Nintendo themselves to work on the port the best we would get is 640p 20-30fps docked and 360p undock with the current version of the switch.

I agree with you and I dont think the game's unique look and feel would be ruined but would be not as good considering it would have to be downgraded for inferior hardware.

I do think the game might be unoptimized a little though, I remember a couple bugs and the game can feel a little unpolished
things start dropping frames in the idol sidequests when you get 100+ followers and the world is constantly packed with people when it really shouldn't be, there should be some to interact with and some crowds together in places that make sense, but sidewalks and most places should only have a few people
there's also a lot of geometry that should be smoothed out if only to make your powers easier to use instead of awkward but also would cut down on requirements. I think if they were clever with the art style they could really cut down on it's requirements but it is asking quite a lot now that I think about it, it's not like you can just ask for breath of the wild's optimization when that is such a big budget game in comparison
I guess it would be a challenge to make it run on the switch, but maybe nintendo would have supported it more and they could have a better budget to get it done
I know if I were behind the games I would be pissed at sony, but maybe they don't feel that way

It's a solid 7/10. I find I have lots of fun just with the movement system by itself, but don't enjoy the actual combat. Kat being a genuinely kindhearted and fun protagonist instead of some brooding snarky middle aged fuck is a nice bonus.

I can agree if it's people saying it's a 10/10 masterpiece. It isn't, but it legitimately has a great artstyle and the most fun movement system in a game since Spider-Man 2. I've found myself booting it up just to fly around the city for a while, which is something I haven't done with vidya since I was a kid. Usually I just finish something and shelve it for good now.

And that he wants some kind of unique gameplay gimmick to it. Hopefully whatever comes to mind isn't too offputting for the general public, or it'll just another case of a game getting fuckall attention beyond its fanbase.

I think that when he says gimmick he means something like lunar and jupiter styles. A new way to play the game. My only issue with those is the placing of them on the controller. The games always put things like that in the most inopportune places. It should've been on the d-pad, not the touch screen.

1 wasn't as hard as all that. 2 took a while but yeah. I just have to go and %100 Raven's Choice and that'll be that.

People basically mean that it has some genuine passion in it, rather than a safe by the books product with the occasional forced 'so goofy' gag to try to connect.

It doesn't mean the game is perfect or amazing in every way. I'd honestly describe Gravity Rush as wholesome, charming, and whimsical. It brings out that magic of childhood wonder without presenting itself as full on childish.
