It has a publisher and publishers like money. This game has relatively high production values for something that started out as an indie project, which makes it's marketable to whoever is in charge of securing deals at Epic Games Store. If there aren't any high expectations when it comes to sales, then a huge lump sum by Epic is an attractive alternative.
