There's honestly no hope for Destiny as a franchise. It was a "in the moment at the time" kind of thing, and it honestly can't compare to Borderlands when it comes to what the actual game is about: collecting a shit ton of guns.
This coming from someone who sunk like 500-600 hours into both Destiny 1 and 2 combined. Although BL1 still had the best and most plentiful loot chests.

One or two jokeful "side quests" doesn't make whole game's writing dogshit. Both BL1 and BL2 have some underwhelming quests for sure, but the main experience is far from shit, especially when comparing to other shooters with similar mechanics from the past ten years.

The issue with Destiny 2 is that they literally learned nothing from the first Destiny, and removed a ton of shit that should have been in the game at launch, and then people found out about all the shady shit Bungie was doing. Even worse that they were telling people that there'd be so much story, only for there to still be barely any, and the big bad was just some random fuck. I only played at launch and never did any of the DLC shit in 2, so I don't know if it got much better, but it felt as shallow as Destiny 1 did at launch.
