Your argument can be countered by the success of games with virtually no erotica like CoD or FIFA. Also, note that these bans target visual novels, not actual games. Finally, why is only Japanese erotica being censored, but not Western erotica, like GTA? One could even argue that games like Overwatch or Fortnite are worse, for you have to spend money to unlock the more lewd costumes.

So many painfully mediocre titles got themselves up there or known because of the situations they allowed & the appeal of violence: Said violence wasn't backed by good gameplay mechanics, or even good sound design, or anything of the kind. It was just the situations that sold the game, and I'd say mediocre games being sold on account of the situations & setting they offer rather than the quality & craftsmanship behind these actions & how they reward the player has been a much bigger issue than anything relating to sex appeal in Vidya.

Here's why: If violent content completely got banned from video games it would be a MASSIVE positive for the industry. So many awful designs, and games as a whole succeed just due to violence. This sets an awful president because devs don't actually have to put any effort in and can keep making shitty games, slap some gore in them and earn easy money.

If violent content got banned from video games, the overall quality would MASSIVELY skyrocket, because devs would be forced to actually put effort into their games and make them good instead of just coasting on visceral combat.
