The game gets a bit more difficult after the timeskip but it's mostly because of the surprise effect of having to fight lots of upgraded ennemies, and I guess you can change difficulty for a ng+

When Nemesis was killed, Seiros was fuck angry and decided to make a religion honoring her mother and placing importance on the crests as revenge against humanity. Edelgard is right that the current age places too much importance on crests. The church is the one who pushes the importance of crests and by getting rid of them, then humanity can actually move forward.

The only downside really is bow knight has the shittiest class growths in the game, like horrendously bad if Serene’s forest didn’t fuck up and forget a few numbers.

mounted classes seem to generally give up higher stat growths in exchange for their movement

Nah, Sylvain on Dimitri's route does it as well as Dimitri setting up a better form of government. When Dimitri is chill after calming the fuck down he would most likely follow what Sylvain does. The crest issue is resolved as well if you recruit Hannamen and you always should since it is only a level requirement. It is solved on every route basically.

Why do this? She is a great healer and has silence to boot she will be using faith magic most turns so having her a dancer would be a waste. I would say turn Dorothea or Lysithea into a dancer allows them to keep using magic having also allows them to dance for units if no enemies are nearby. Marianne also makes a great holy knight with boons in both riding and lance (Hidden talent)

Is there a reason to recruit from the other houses or will I be fine for each route with just those units? Feels like it'll be a hassle to recruit and honestly I don't want the game to feel too samey on each route if I'm just recruiting all the same people anyway.

Usually doesn't hurt to recruit at least one or two people to fill out your team where you're lacking.

Basically just a way to get more units, and get the students that you actually like, but they are from other houses and save them from their demise
You can just go full “canon” if you like. Its the selling point of this game. You can do (almost) anything with your squad

you're probably not going to be able to recruit everyone possible unless you specifically aim for it. But it does help for variety so you're not just stuck with your original house+church units

Prevents you from fighting and killing them
Gives new dialogues on maps and in monastery post time skip
For example if you didn't recruit berny then Edelgard will sacrifice her to lure you in the trap, double points for her being scared to even fight you

Some other recomendations is to make Felix a Mortal Savant instead of a war master, he can get black magic crit +10 from his hidden talent and has access to Thoron probably the best spell in the game, but also has incredibly speed and makes a great early game thief unit.

Manuela I don't normally use but since you only have one other healer i'd say go Holy knight don't know how good she is at that class to be honest. (Honestly even a bishop is ok as all she'll be doing is healing).

I usually run Holy knight Byleth as with his high strength growth he can easily double with Noseforatu late game, mid game i have him go Paladin so it goes into holy knight quite well, he also gets White Magic Avoid +20 so he'll be dodging a lot with that and Aura is a dirty crit attack.

At the end of the day it's up to you how you play.

The church and their dragon bitch goddess are literally evil and only want to torture humanity. Nemesis told their god to fuck off and killed her, to which they in turn used the crests to make humanity dependent slaves to their will.

Recruit people who have supports with the route's lord so you can see the unique supports (IE Marianne and Raphael in BL, Petra in GD, Lysithea in BE)

Don't let first impressions fool you, there are a LOT of characters that are surprisingly endearing, especially on the Eagles. I thought I'd hate Hubert, Linhardt, and Caspar and I ended up liking all of them a lot.

The church is the cause of just about everything going wrong. From them emphasizing how important crests are, the nobility system was placed as well as not treading far from the church's teachings. Remember, Seiros founded the church and it's teachings as one last way to screw over humanity.

Wow, did you even play her route ? Their relationship is very progressive, at first she sees Byleth as a nuisance for her plan since he's close to Rhea. But little by little she starts wishing that he was at her side since he's the sole person she can depends on and opens up a bit. She begins leaking her plan to him but then she realizes that he is a blood relative of Rhea and she abandons all hope to get him side with her. So she "betrays" him but Byleth still decides to protect her against the Church, she is moved by it as she finally finds someone who genuinely cares about her. From that point she begins cherishing him, all of this is explained by her in her route lol.

For example in Dimitri's path, both he and Claude are fighting Edelgard. Logically they should team up against her and that's even what Dimitri says but then all the Messengers somehow completely fail to arrive and Claude just assumed Dimitri turned on him and attacks him.
And yet there's another point where he waits for Dimitri to save him.

There's honestly a ton of contrivances mostly against BL and GD to keep the war a three-way and hide the fact that Edelgard is the instigator of 90% of the shit in the game. If you replaced Dimitri with say Ephraim then the plot would just be BL logically cutting a swath to GD, teaming everyone up, and slaying the shit out of Edelgard no issues.

He doesn't engage them on the map unless you initiate. He's a bit more chill but still wants to kill shit. After the fight he gives her a crest relic to protect her until he can kill her himself, which she jokingly replies that he won't be able to because she has the relic now. He also gives them his Scythe and asks you to protect her until, again, he can kill her.

Edlegard has his father assassinated and his family assets seized, so he goes into exile with a few loyal servants until he meets back up with you at the monastery. He says he couldn't stomach being Edelgard's puppet Prime Minister and swears to help you defeat her

I'm enjoying this game but I hope they do away with the huge school part for the next instalment and brings back a bigger roster with units introduced gradually over the game again.

The main issue i see here is the lance and riding one, I don't know why IS decided that the only option for mounted magic users is for them to have lance leveled too it was a dumb choice and Bow knight as well for no reason.

I think it is easy because your units tend to snowball in just the way you want them to. I get that's the point of the teaching aspect, but it often makes for some game breaking stuff.
Another thing is the ridiculous skill tree.
Close counter for people who take archer for a bit is just one example.
I think the initial difficulty stems from the fact that your units are essentially "behind the curve" when you first start out. Anyone who played GD can attest to fighting archers that have +1 range over your own is frustrating.

It's pretty strange that the Advanced tier of classes is kind of skipped over due to everyone's levels increasing during the timeskip. Dimitri went from lvl22 in the last pre-timeskip mission to lvl30 after the rat cleansing.

Oh don't get me wrong, character wise I think its the best of the nu-FE games.

My biggest gripe was that there are random archers hiding in the monster infested fog to fuck up any fliers you send in. I took Marianne and Hilda into the Blue Lions, so while Punished Dimitri could practically solo the beasts, my Wyvern Lord Hilda got an arrow to the gut and I ended up restarting to change my strategy. Marianne herself is under no threat if you just park her in a tree next to Maurice until your army can clear the path to the grove

I send all the professors and Cyril/Flayn out on the side missions, and only use my students on the main missions. Helps keep the game more interesting difficulty wise, since you aren't steamrolling everything quite as hard.

repairing takes resources, which are usually better spent on Forging, since that also repairs. But you can buy the first two materials from the Eastern merchant.

One thing I really dont like compared to old-FE is how the characters dont represent their classes anymore.

Back in the day they really looked like what they are(for the most part) and their characters revolved around their class to a certain degree.

Since you can class everything now, they mostly revolve around their background/student personas and I'm not feeling that.

Just did it last night, I don't recall struggling with it at all and I felt the two other professors' paralouge.to be a worse case of having your units isolated. The enemy beside her isn't initially hostile, you have guaranteed access to at least two flying units at that point(though hidden archers are a concern), and theres a pretty good chance you're playing GD so everyone's favorite fun-sized nuke is there to help clear a path

Not him, but as a whole I agree. 3H definitely has the most complex characters. I also don't think he's wrong about those two; Harken's supports are god tier and Renault is such a weirdly interesting character who you have to replay the entire game 3 times to understand at all.

You miss out on a shitty D rank battalion and some renown, oh well. Your battle time is better spent on paralogues, make sure you get all of them done before the timeskip locks you out. Paralogues often lead to getting sacred relics and other such badass gear

Some characters, namely Bernie can be a little one dimensional, but even Bernie has a lot of depth in some of her supports, even if most of them are tropey like that. Characters like her are definitely the outlier too, the majority of them are genuinely well developed and interesting.

I recruited to replace kids in my house that didn't turn out well. Marianne replaced Annette, Hilda replaced Dedue and Ferdinand replaced Ashe. You can still set leftovers as Adjutants to keep them from falling behind if they've gotten good levels, so do that with characters like Catherine

Almost no one is saying the first one, and golden routes suck and take away from the sting of the other routes. The only potential gold route would be Dimitri and Claude siding with Edelgard against the Church, which is contradictory to both of their beliefs. One guy in another route proposed the 5th route be siding with the Slitherers against the Church, which could be an interesting way to fuck them over without having to fulfill Edelgard's shitty self absorbed plan
