A lot of the early dungeons feel a lot like real RPG/D&D dungeons that could be really fun to explore, but that's not really why people are playing FFXIV I guess.

Because of how clipping works for casters you need to weave them in between instant spell and normal cast. And you want to weave two oGCD between them. SMN has multiple oGCD with 30s and other shit. So when I picked up those two jobs my pinky down to my wrist started going numb after a few days just from constantly angling my hand and stretching it out to hit the right numbers (this was after decades of playing shooters with zero issues too). Depending on his setup, the size of his hands, how long he plays, and how much he mashes buttons (so many people mash keys hard while they're on cooldown) I could totally see someone fucking their hands up

Got 97th percentile without food and pot on TitEx but fflogs deleted my parses.

I know but I really can't tolerate PF anymore. I did it in Heavensward and early Stormblood and it's just a miserable experience. When you are doing them at level 80 and they were designed for level 17, it's going to be awful no matter how you slice it. I would love to see that kind of content again but there's a horrible degradation of old content due to new abilities being tied to higher levels long past that content. As much as I like the idea of New game + I much rather would have had 'the enemies and abilities sync to the lowest level party member" so that an ARR, HW, or some SB dungeons wouldn't feel like drying paint.

Content is tuned for a certain level of performance and only giving buffs diminishes the challenge, which is the reason people do the content in the first place. Power creep is real and if there is an obviously high outlier it makes more sense to nerf the one outlier than buff everything else to be on the same level.

It's not just about the abilities, but the way the dungeons are designed. For example, the Twinning is a simple pipe with no branches at all, but they could've added a few side rooms where you can find the datalogs that are currently just lying around the main pipe.There's no exploration involved at all. Of course, when everyone is going to go through the optimal route after the first run there's not much point in adding the branches anyway.

If they actually wanted to encourage exploration, the side rooms should have real treasure chests with items and tomestones, not just potions and possibly random bits of worldbuilding lore.

I wouldn't go in side rooms even for items. 98% of the time if you're in a dungeon it's as a roulette where you just want to finish quickly and get the roulette reward, you don't give a shit about items or gil or materia. I completed an ARR relic recently and going back and redoing all the old ARR dungeons even at level 80 made me realize how annoying some of those dungeons were compared to now.

XIV just isn't that sort of game. It's difficult for MMOs to pull off the whole exploration angle in general because the genre is based around running the same content over and over. To make MMO exploration actually fun and rewarding you have to have a design that is very deliberately focused on that, and put serious effort into both the incentives and randomized factors to try and preserve the sense of exploring.

Either they need to add to max level dungeons the leveling dungeon system where on completion you get a random piece you don't have, or they need to have dungeons just drop gear tokens/coffers that you can exchange for the piece you want. Because DNC+buffs does about the same damage as just a single person play a normal DPS job. It gets a lot less reliable when you split the dps over multiple people instead of just one and during progress runs you want consistency.

Unfortunately, yes.

Not that combo. The only viable "solo" crafts would be alchemist and culinarian because they make pots/dissolvents and food that have no submats from other crafters.
The problem with goldsmith and the rest is that the piece of crafted gear will have submats from a few other classes.
If you only level one of them you'll be missing vital cross class skills that mean your crafts either take longer, require more overmelds on your gear, or take more hq submats.

It's really all or nothing if you don't want to suffer hard.

The best way I can see Hydaelyn being given a flaw/negativity is that she ultimately profits off suffering. Not quite that she hand-rubbingly divided the world just to cause suffering, but that because she was born out of prayers related to suffering she will always solicit it the way Zodiark was born of sacrifice and will always solicit that. "Living means to suffer, and better to strive and suffer in life than to live in placid subservience and mindlessness" seems like a stock JRPGy theme and way to define Zodiark-Hydaelyn beyond 'evil guy and good lady'. But then again I hear Yoshi likes traditional good vs traditional evil.

She's also benevolent to a fault. The Ascians used that factor against her to create the Flood of Light by inspiring heroes to perform selfless deeds.

I find it interesting that they've basically covered this ground before in XI, but it's almost reversed. In FFXI, there was the Dawn Goddess Altana and the Twilight God Promathia. As Twilight, Promathia's role in the world was to represent an end to all things, including himself. But Altana loved him and the world too much to accept their deaths, so she shattered the world to seal him and prolong everything beyond its natural, intended death. She even rewrote history at one point to let the people of the world win an impossible war against the Shadow Lord, which ended up risking the existence of both timelines. All of this and she was considered the good one.

In XIV we instead have Zodiark and the Ascians that are trying to preserve the world and undo history. Emet-Selch is latching onto something past its time. But he's portrayed as the villain because of it. Hydaelyn who almost fills the same role as Altana instead is the one promoting the idea of accepting death and loss and moving past it. The roles are very similar, but reversed, and the way the games treat the idea of accepting loss is very interesting.

WoL's biggest strength is that they're very quick to pick up new skills, and thus attune with soul crystals which gives them a massive pool of things to use. But that alone isn't enough to just beat out a lifetime of training that people like Zenos and Estinien have had. It's a lot like how WoL can't do shit with their Echo because they've never bothered to learn to use it, compared to Zenos who learned to pilot primals with it.

I couldn't remember how raid gear was and if they were cheap and did recolors or not. Looking back and I do see some recolors. Then again I was worried the 8 mans would be Nomuran gear and it turned out to be Miura instead at least with Griffith armor. On pretty much all the fights the dps has to be on point. If any of them die once, or twice, its fucked, so there really isn't too much of a point of resmage because SMN does more damage and can still provide a res here and there.

Then on titan you need somewhere close to 80k, and the fight is mechanically intensive as fuck.

Summoning a primal seems to temper you, judging from what we've seen of other primals. Not being in proximity to the summon but actively summoning the primal. If you have the echo then you could overcome it by will-power, though we don't have an active test example. Ga-Bu summoning Titan introduces a question on this as he hasn't been tempered, he's just autistically mute and traumatized now.

I doubt it. Ryne is coming with us - it'd be crazy for them to sacrifice minfilia just to have a character written off to disappear after the expansion is over given she is literally referred to as family by Thancred (I know he says she's going to be left alone in the eden cinematics). Something to consider however is given the feels and emotional pull of this expansion, it might be foolish to conclude we've well and truly won with 5 patches of story to come. I don't think the rejoining would work because it'd require a calamity on the source, but you could see something cataclysmic happen. Maybe some fuckup by the Exarch or Edible-bus makes the first merge haphazardly with the source. I just would not expect the drama to subside and these patches to be happy go lucky cleaning up the first. Things could go sour - hell, it was only really HW and pre 2.5 ARR where patches were wholly positive story arcs. In SB they were Yotsuyu dying, scions falling into comas.

So maybe Thancred will stay. I mean, asked me in HW 3.0 if a scion would die and I'd have said "nah"

At some point, in order to keep the scope and focus of a story manageable, you've gotta remove unnecessary elements. We can keep 5.0's cast of characters with us forever. Some may come back into the MSQ from time to time or become bigger parts later, but I don't expect any of the main 5.0's cast to remain big parts of the story after 5.3 when we expect the conclusion of ShB's arc to happen.

Given how well they pulled of ShB in almost every aspect, not just storytelling but visuals, music, content, etc well before FFXIV hit an all-time high of 1M players/subs, I can only imagine that ShB has set a new bar for FFXIV expansions going forward and that we can expect ShB's level of quality and execution for a while. However, if you go watch the cinematics again around the level 20 or so range Frixio the elder sylph says those that summoned Ramuh got tempered by him because they summoned him. Given Ramuh said he doesn't like to be summoned and tries to avoid draining aether if he can (he's a very reserved primal who doesn't like to be summoned unless it's necessary), why would he temper in the first place? Evidently Word of the Mother in the Antitower dealt with Minfilia/Hydaelyn and lessons of the Ascians and their rejoining. I don't remember it, but that would elevate its importance.

Speaking of your example, don't let my remark about Ramuh make it seem like I am saying primals can't/won't temper after the fact - we saw Ifrit attempt to temper after the fact, we saw Laks attempt to temper and we had to do gameplay mechanics to stop her from landing a tempering. I forget if mother snake summoned Laks herself or if someone else did it for her.

Given your example, if mother snake did summon laks and wasn't tempered till later it'd throw a wrench into my claim earlier. Same as the Ga Bu question. I did not do Crystal Tower so I can't speak to if Louisocks got tempered but I recall reading dialogue where Alisaie calls him out on how he doesn't sound like her grandfather when he starts talking about how sinful and bad mankind is.
