Also "poorly" is hyperbole considering, according to that same article, it still produced an operating profit and selling more than it did last year. Money was just eaten up by international fuckery outside of Nintendo's control.
If Nintendo produced a loss without any real reason(e.g. massive operating costs from construction, launching and producing a new product, etc.) then you could say "they're doing poorly financially."

Now you lose out on basic feature no matter what version you buy. With OG Switch, you lose out on d-pad and good form factor. With Lite, you lose out on couch gaming.

Pokemon underperforming could very well happen though, given that there are less people who own a Switch in comparison to the amount of people who owned a 3DS when X and Y came out. Plus the fact that despite Nintendo advertising the Switch as both a hand-held and home console they're still selling it at home console prices. And taking into account that they're not even the first Pokemon games to be released on the Switch, which is important given previous sales figures indicate that the first set of Pokemon games for each handheld generation (GBA, DS, 3DS) are higher than everything else that comes afterwards.

I have had all Nintendo consoles from the Super Nintendo up to the Wii U and I can tell you there isnt a single Switch exclusive that is a must have. Frankly even the Wii U had very few of them and probably only BOTW would really be on my must play list.

Q3 has Mario Maker 2, Astral Chain, Link's Awakening, Daemon X Machina and DQ XI S. Q4 has Luigi's Mansion 3, Pokemon Sword & Shield, TOWN, and a bunch of third parties like Spyro, Rune Factory 4, Ni No Kuni, New Super Lucky's Tale, Yooka Laylee and the Impossible Lair, Mario & Sonic etc.

I frankly forgot that the Medievil Remake would come out this year and not 2020. I also never said that vanilla DQXI was exclusive, just so far that its stated that the definitive edition (s) is.
I also left out some other Switch titles like Panzer Dragoon since its unknowing if it will come out late this year or early next. So stop jumping into conclusions.

This is what I've found with my Switch. Most of the games I would've bought I already own on my WiiU. The only one I can make any justification to get again is MK8 Deluxe, given all the shit they changed between the WiiU and Switch versions.

No matter how many times Game Freak shoots themselves in the foot, their games will always sell, even if they unironically sever their foot.

The only games I'm considering getting are smash team racing and dragon quest builders 2.

Because of muh new Switch, which was announced now so the sales will be up the roof again.

Personally, I think that Switch momentum is starting to fade out.

I know Nintendo is doing their best to bring more content to the platform but the console is not that attractive for many people.

The fact that many people are buying more PlayStation 4 consoles over the hot new portable toy says a lot, Nintendo lowered their forecast sales from 20 million to 17 million, they didn't even achieve their 17 million goal.

Who knows, maybe the Switch Lite will improve things a little bit but we will have to see. Overall, it feels like the console still needs more time to find a place in the market.

Lack of third-party support, Nintendo games being always full priced and a shitty online infrastructure are problems that Nintendo should address pronto.

The reasons I didn't buy a switch, in order of most to least important, if it can help fans make nintendo understand:
- No pikmin
- Saves are tied to the console and you can't back them up reliably any other way (cloud saving isn't reliable, and again doesn't work for half the games), if anything happens to it well fuck you, you lose your 300 hours animal crossing save.
- PAID online, that on top of that DOESN'T WORK. The online being paid alone makes it so a lot less people will play multiplayer. And nobody should pay for peer to peer, plus half the games don't support cloud saves because fuck you.
- Stick drift still not fixed after years of the console being out
- Price of the console still too high after all this time, especially considering the cheap ass hardware, the barely cheaper mini version lacks too many features and is barely worth buying since the last OG switch revision
- Too few games that aren't ports of things I already own and run better on PC
