It's not even a Hero-specific issue. The point is that Robin has this weird gimmick that provides absolutely no real advantages while somebody like Snake or Young Link can just mash B with impunity.

Robin has always been ass, no idea why anyone plays that shitty character. If you want a move like arcfire you can just play Ness and get have a stronger more obnoxious character. I don't really see anything good about them besides arcfire, nothing else ever manages to do anything to me when I fight them. Fighting them is always boring, same as it was in 4.

Sakurai has become hyper-sensitive to designing characters at almost a disabling true-to-form level since Smash 4, probably because you really run the risk of characters muddling together in a 50+ character roster. I believe he even said it was more important to have characters feel themselves/unique than be balanced, which I would agree to a point.

It's that Smash 4 Sakurai mindset of "I can add whichever character nobody asked for as long as I give them a 'unique' gimmick, even if 3/4 of the time it's just clumsy and makes them less fun to play."

Limit also buffs Cloud's movement by a fair margin and his damn recovery hits behind him + can suicide spike people. Cloud is shit design in the same kind of way that Bayo is. Giving them hitboxes that other characters literally cannot contest and thus you just have to respect it even if you can call out what the other person is going to do ahead of time.

It isn't just DLC characters, by the way. Snake STILL has frame 1 grenade pulls

Shoulda said new characters. Kinda sad we'll never see Samus get a much needed overhaul. I think DK could use one too, but at least he's fun to play and not atrocious competitively.

At this point I could cut out 30 characters easily before I got to any most people would honestly miss. I hope they fucking do it. Keep the newer good characters as is, revamp the old characters that really need it, add a proper adventure mode, and cut out all the shit that's built up over the last 20 years. Easy.

Agreed. I appreciate the team's dedication to the roster, but I would kill for single-player content of Melee (Adventure, Event, original Trophy models, Break the Targets) with a roster around Brawl size. Give like 2/3rds to vets and get some rotating new blood in there. Also Board the Platforms would be badass, as would Stage Builder, Smash Run, and Squad Strike. Have the new original pieces in the soundtrack done by one composer or a small team with a consistent style without redoing the same song in different instrumentation/genres (a la 64/Melee), while the guest composers continue to do remixes. Some new Stages for long-time represented franchises that aren't just world 1-1 for the third or fourth time. Give it Melee speed and jank with adjustable gameplay options (ledgetrump vs ledgehog, multiple air dodge vs single air dodge, etc.) Bring back custom moves with unique animations/assets if necessary - Mario's standard special could be fireball, hammer (from suit), superball, Megavitamin, etc. I haven't had sex in two months.
