The only thing worth of notice was Blyat getting his heartbeat back, which wasn't really much of an issue for him in the first place. The game is basically GoodColdSteel. This plot is much closer to what Cold Steel should have been than the mess we got.

It's odd. Byleth is decently known mercenary, becomes a teacher loved by his students, will help one of his former students conquer the continent or inadvertently conquer it themself in one route, has a famous magic sword and is the reincarnation of the worlds's goddess.

The main problem with this game isn't map design (although it isnt Thracia/Conquest level, its mostly good), its just that your player units are too overpowered and can steamroll the enemy without thinking. Lunatic mode will make a big difference in this case. I'm thinking about the difference between PoR hard vs lunatic.

Play Edelgard's route and then side against her at a certain point in the story.

What's the end game like? Do I have a limited amount of time with this calendar system for the stat and relationship building? Also Is there a point where I can just battle as I want without limit? Right now I have some side missions to do and some events happening on the calender but I can only do 2 fights when I choose to battle.

Main problem is both map design not being good (conquest had bad map design and you are clearly a newfag parroter for mentioning it, thracia map design is ruined by cheap bullshit) mounted units being busted and not even being able to ferry foot units to the front lines. It makes the gameplay shallow because so few classes are viable.

The game is fine on hard classic and you can limit yourself simply by playing casually and using bad classes or units. The game doesn't deserve to be taken seriously and played for low turn count. Lunatic has always been an autist gamemode for slow play, min maxing and RNG gambling. I don't know how anyone could have fun just "trying to get though" I beat shadow dragon on the hardest setting when this shit started and it was a slog. Fire emblem without rescue chains is bland and this game doesn't even have seize. Half the maps are going to be trying to abuse bolting and warp on bosses and then grinding the genetic maps.

I'll only play lunatic if they take away the enemy targeting. Why include this when you have a rewind feature to protect you from positioning mistakes in the first place?

It's not even a major component. The supports hardly affect gameplay and unit building has nothing to do with dating sims. Just rest, unless you want to hear what people say don't bother trying to maximize motivation and shit. Skill levels really aren't that important.

Church Route is the best route because you're the one actively in charge of what's going on at that point and aren't beholden to any lord. You are the church now, and even if/when Rhea does come back, she has no interest in being a leader anymore and admits she's not cut out for it, instead willingly taking her place as your draconic brood mother who eternally worships the ground you walk on instead if you want.
You can also save the most number of students on church route, and it's the only route that lets you recruit every single female except for Edelgard, making it the true Harem route.

The only downside to the route is what happens to Dimitri.

Lyn is still super popular, and they already have a blank slate MU in the form of Mark they can shoehorn in as a tactician class unit like Robin, while just giving him some lines of dialogue in the story during all the moments where characters would normally turn towards the camera and address the player directly.

The character writing is bad. I had to turn the dub off immediately, not because the voice actors did a bad job, but because the scripts they were given were horrible and alien sounding. They all speak without contractions, which is an incompetent writers idea of what ye olde formal english sounds like, or maybe just their idea of a compromise between that and modern conversational dialect, but in the end it just sounds stupid. You have to use the subs to hide how stupid it sounds.

The story is just... badly presented, more so than the story is bad itself. I'd say that a story's presentation is much more important than it's content. Every character is constantly chomping at the bit to tell you their characters lineage and history even though the story and the events surrounding you give you no possible reason to care about what they're babbling about, usually spiced with some random melodrama like my father died in the war or something.

The pacing is absolutely horrible and the exposition dumps seamlessly mixed with the actual events in front of you appearing like JRPG random encounters is just jarring to say the least. One mission has you going around the entire monastery asking about an assassination plot on Rhea, where most of the kids assume it's a diversion. After you come to this conclusion and end the evening, you are tasked with guarding the remains of the Saint, where they show this "cute" tsundere scene with the professor, and not a moment after this you get a battle screen with an army of priests, a unit called the "death knight", and you learn only afterward that there's an uprising within the western church to steal the remains of the saint.

Events just happen arbitrarily with no connection. After being appointed the professor for no reason, you become chosen to wield a sacred blade out of nowhere and you just segway into another event where you run around asking 20 NPC's what they think is going on only to immediately segue into the event.

The map design was actually quite good for the most part, it's just they couldn't decide how much pressure to put on you at the right time.
You either get fucking overrun and strangled by how much there is and leads to a bad overall feel like the Petra and Bernie Paralogue where you just get a fuck ton coming after you and get punished for going any other way but right, or there are no fucking reinforcements and you can just take your time, and you already have a redo button anyways.

She also hides really huge knockers under that armor.

In that chapter she dies if you kill her. For the record I didn't recruit Petra but she ends up retreating instead. I dunno what happens to units you decide to "spare" if you ignore them and complete the objective instead with them still alive.

As far as I'm concerned unit placement and reinforcements (as well as objective to be honest) are an intrinsic part of map design that decides whether it's good or not. Not being an open field is obviously part of it, but that alone doesn't make a chapter so good I'll remember it years after playing.

It's going to get real tiring on the 3rd and 4th playthrough, I can tell you that much. It's a "good" thing the game doesn't have rankings, because I can't imagine doing a hard mode run of all 4 routes, followed by lunatic runs of each route, followed by ranking runs, and having to go through the school segments every single time. Charming once or twice, but hell afterwards.

You can steal characters from other houses besides the house leaders and Dedue/Hubert. You either need to meet specific stat requirements to recruit them to your house (a pain in the ass), or raise them to B support in which case they'll randomly ask to join your house skipping the stat requirement entirely.

There's a lot of thought put into the dialogue in this game. Countless boss quotes, pre mission quotes for every unit including the ones you poached, minor support quote changes, it feels like they've taken everything into account

I don't even recommend stealing because they get no lines outside their own route and you miss the lines they get as enemies. I'd only try for paralouge combos.

My Leonie is a great Paladin, her support with Felix is nice. Felix is also very easy to get since using sword and being a high level is about all you need.
Hilda has a nice one with Cyril if you want to use this games Donnel. He is also a beast on my route, but might be slightly blessed.
Ignatz is a great unit, get 3 rallys from authority. I paired him with Lysethia and they are cute together.
Since your getting Bernie, you could also get Mercedes since she needs bow levels. I put her with Lorenz personally, maybe with Ignatz?

I unironically think this is the best all around game we've had in a long time. I thought Awakening was okay, and Conquest map design was great and all, as I'm sure everyone here will tell you, but this game felt like an all around pretty good package.

Each class affects growth rates but only by small margins except some exceptions. Swordmaster and Assassin give you a big 20% boost in SPD growth. But some characters seem geared towards only being worth using in 1 class and nothing else. Ashe seems to only really be good as a Thief/Assassin cause he's lacking at anything else.

Opinions on Conquest are STILL positive from a gameplay point of view but everyone then and now knew that the story was an abortion.

On normal, it just resets the map but you keep EXP. On hard, it just boots you back to the main field. Only Normal gets to grind in any way.

I'm just happy it all worked out. The only real misstep I feel was Fates, but at the very least we can all move on now.

Not really, it's just optional bloat, meat of the game is still an (admittedly easy) SRPG. It's just fun to use and customize units you like. Visuals are indeed shit but you get used to it.

So Blue Lions is the canon route right? It's house members are actually sometimes relevant in the pre-timeskip chapter (Lonato and Miklan). They're also the only house that has a real character dynamic between it's core members and not just bunch of a random shitters like in GD and BE. It also has by far the best story out of any of them and is one of the longest routes.

They can rerout. Like if two people are targeting different units in range, but one attacks and hurts you, they other guy might go after the damaged target. It doesn't tell you the order they will attack in.

Golden Chads- These guys just don't give a fuck. They are just here for deep lore and fucking shit up. Claude managed to stop Edelgard's plan at the start of the game, and in his route he doesn't slow down one bit in being the spanner in the works.

Golden Deers is mostly the lore/world building route that explains a lot of back story in the game. You don't fight the Gorilla in this route because she dies off screen to Dedue but you do fight Dimitri. Despite people saying the route is filler, I think it's still a good route.
They clearly wanted to go for a final 3 way fight battle like the ones they made you do during the School part of the plot. Except it just made the writing take a nosedive since Claude suddenly turns into an idiot and it shows how Edelgard really is an insane bitch even though we're expected to like her.

I just wish the game had better performance. The pop-in is insane during the monastery sections. Is it better docked? I'm mainly playing in handheld mode.

Caspar receives a report that the Death Knight is spotted and plans to go kill him, but Mercedes insists he brings her along because she wants to confirm that it is her brother. So just story stuff.
The map isolates the tree from the rest of your army and he doesn't even attack unless you initiate.
He gives Mercedes a relic accessory after the battle.

the monastery is really bad especially if youre dashing, but im legit surprised the battle maps dont lag more because if you decide to zoom in and use the non grid based movement style for units the game still performs decently

Best character is probably late game falconknight Ingrid. She takes forever to get decent strength but she has like 50+ speed at end game and everyone only has like 20% hit rates on her max. If she waits and does nothing she gets+30 avoid too so she can dodge tank forever and kill with crits.

My only problem with this game is it is easy. The lines showing you what enemies might do is a big reason why. I hope Lunatic is good and hard. I love this game other than that. Could see it becoming my favorite in the series and like another user already said, another game set in the same world could work and it would be great.

Dude Hilda is actually good, also she fucking killed half of the world population by the times the angels drop so she has a bigger body count, and you get to put a baby on her to top it off.

My main problem with edelgard is that the game assumes we like her, Hilda felt earned despite the fact that she kills Mor Sister, Crystals your adoptive Mother, nearly kills Lisette but redeems herself by being the only ally that stays with you in the climatic point where your allies return.

My endgame Ingrid was a dodge tank beast too. Absolutely nothing could hit her besides an arrow, she could tank any magic attack, and she would crit half of the time. She really is a late bloomer.
