While the Americans did win pretty much every engagement, the issue is that they just kept coming and coming. They never actually managed to claim much ground and kept getting flanked due to routes into Cambodia and America couldn't interfere with that due to politics. It wasn't until the Tet Offensive where the NVA ended up blowing it and losing a lot of the soldiers that things could have turned around. But at that point, Americans were sick of the war and backed out when arguably, that was at that point where they could have gained ground and things could have turned around completely. So the NVA stomped on the South Vietnamese once Americans left.

So, yes, the US did win every engagement, but it took a very long ass time for it to get them anywhere. Vietcong had constant fresh supply of cannon fodder.

This is one of the big issues with fighting against Vietnam. Until the failure of the Tet Offensive, the North Vietnamese had constant amounts of troops. It doesn't matter if you win every fight, they're constantly flanking you and retaking positions that you left so you have to go back and clear them out. It just keeps happening and that takes up a lot of time to gain relatively little ground. And at that point, the war grew really unpopular due to all the shady shit going on with a lot of people not wanting to get drafted. It was also at the moment where faith in the American goverment really started to falter and there wasn't ever this blind faith in the goverment ever again.
