If you play on hard (aka normal) you'll get a decent amount of side battles to end up keeping up with the difficulty curve, you get less characters in this game compared to 7, so you have to focus more on maxing out classes for skills and weapon mastery.

Because the majority of your skill gains come from tutoring outside of battle, and because of the optional weekend battles, it's much more viable to train more units. Most maps allow you to field 10 characters, including the mandatory lord and self-insert. Some characters aren't available for some maps- the students of your house and Cyril are almost always available

The game is really short so you kinda need to play through each of the 4 routes.

You can ignore their stat requirements completely by getting to B rank with them. Their stat requirements do get lower with every rank, but at B rank they'll randomly ask to join your house during the week regardless of what your stats are.

You get a ton of points stuffing flowers down their throat and teaching them. Pretty much every action builds support so it makes sense that if you bother with the monestary stuff it’ll build fast.

There's a bit of a formula.
No support means 20 in the stat they like and C+ in the skill.
C level support means you neer 15 in their stat and C in their skill.
B support drops the stat down to a pitiful ten which you will end up just having, and drops the skill down to a D, which really makes it piss easy since getting through E and E+ is easy as hell.
