Boring, dumbed down mobile game progression system that's only there to be addictive. There's no reason why Xcom needed MMO skill trees.

Still don't see how it's bad as a mechanic.
The thing with roleplay is that, unless AI makes HUGE fucking leaps in the near future, traditional roleplaying just isn't possible in a cRPG. You can give players multiple choices, but that's just a CYOA at that point. True roleplaying arises from interaction between the player and the DM, and there is no DM in a cRPG.
>True roleplaying arises from interaction between the player and the DM, and there is no DM in a cRPG.
This is wrong, NWN games literally have a DM function for instance.
The core of the matter is the inherent limit of what you can code into a game and/or how lazy the developers are.
Having a DM in NWN2 for instance doesn't change the fact that I can't wrestly that Frost Giant after casting Enlarge Person like I would do in a normal TT 3.5 session, the DM is there, physically, but the wrestling function isn't and Enlarge Person is a really basic set of buffs with an AC malus instead of being that AND other contextual functions like that fact that I'm physically large enough to wrestly a fucking giant.

nigger.
We've had skill trees since long, long before mobile games. The problem with skill trees recently is the lack of branching paths, decent synergies among the choices throughout the trees, and actual choices.
>unironically joining the "1st world" realm
>unironically getting mad at "currency"
Do you not understand the term "role"?
I'm just saying it's all RNG and pay to win and grinding. There's a reason why people prefer the minigames.
Is there an rpg where each class isn't just one gimmick you use all the time, but provides you with a different set of options to use in each situation without it always being 'use circle ability for circle situation, square ability for square situation' and so on? Preferably resource management heavy without RNG
its all worth it for the immersion, most minigames are rng and paywall grinds anyways
the skills you take should fundamentally change how the game is played
