They keep changing up the formula, adding a bunch of retarded DLC/pay to win options, and if my sister's boyfriend is a reflection of anything, then people only play to unlock the costumes to look like character's from older games. He also buys the instant level 60 upgrade in every game since Vesperia and that seems to be a huge fuck you to the series.

Fuck I didn't even bother to realize until you said it, but I don't recall any skits in the game whatsoever up to this point.

Yeah, they couldn't be assed to localize or redub all those skits, and even the PSP euro release of Eternia didn't restore them. It's why I kind of hope Bandai Namco or fucking someone over there eventually does re-release the game with localized skits, even if they have to keep all the voices japanese. I don't know how much of the writing the skits composed, but all the things i've seen claim it to be why the english releases feel so barebones.

that definitely makes sense. to be fair i think the symphonia one where you play as sheena is completely optional, and lloyd solo v kratos might only be difficult on higher difficulties/if you simply dont use lloyd which is pretty unlikely for most people i think. i tend to just turn that fight into a slap fight myself.
and of course for karol it really only lasts like what? 30 seconds? not even a real solo fight or anything, just a scare for unsuspecting players at best.

I’m loving Vesperia so far as my first Tales, but I get so frustrated when mid-combo an enemy decides to swivel one pixel to into the fore or background, making all of my other attacks whiff because this game has absolutely zero tracking whatsoever

I would love to try it out, I really like tales of eternia combat and setting. But it would probably be awful on anything higher than 50ms ping

That's nothing, trying playing a game like Tales of the World, you'll want to scalp yourself trying to get arts to connect with an enemy. Had this problem in other portable titles too, like Innocence and Hearts R. Good game though. I think it's a tossup between Vesperia, Abyss, and Symphonia for most content/longest game. Vesperia's final dungeon is easily the largest in the series though.

Finished Radiant Mythology and I don't think I encountered that problem.

When I played, I'd use an art, like say Double Demon Fang, and the enemy would move out of the way immediately, causing my art to miss, and my movement would be locked for the duration of the art, causing other enemies to use me like a punching bag.

Me. The other characters often suck ass in Tales games and only the MC is really designed around being fun for a player. It's rare when one of them has a complete or efficient move set.

Then again occasionally you get some broke ass shit like Rita where playing her is far more effective than any other character in the game. They really don't playtest the other characters for shit in these games, because they CORRECTLY assume the player is only going to use the MC, and they're right about that.

Basically all of the localization for Tales games were fucked until Symphonia, arguably Abyss, and less major side games got fucked. Handheld games either didn't get localized or got the Tales of Hearts R treatment. Some really good sequels like the Radiant Mythology games simply didn't get localized at all because the first game wasn't some smash success. Namco really fucking hates localizing everything Tales that isn't a mainline entry, and even then we get questionable choices and problems with those every once in a while.

That was weird because a bunch of Tales games have segments like that you CAN beat, except they just make it so difficult you're unlikely to unless you prepare ahead of time, or it's a 2nd playthrough hopped up on all that Grade meth bonuses.

The average arte framedata is in Flynn's advantage (look at Guardian Field), most of his stuff comes out faster, Yuri has faster normals(with swords) and longer artes but Flynn's Arte execution is actually faster than Yuri's on average.

And I might be wrong on this but to this day Flynn has (or should have) the fastest execution in the series for a lot of classic artes like Tenshouku, I think he even comes close to the Hearts R cast in terms of general execution speed.

Karol is so slow and clunky that playing him just isn't fun

im trying to play through Berseria again, this time on a legit steam copy to go for 100% chieves and I'm having a very hard time with it. Seemed pretty good a few years back, now the beginning part is making me roll my eyes and alt-F4 after I find a save point so i can recoup some of my sanity.

he's got some fun moves though, i mean the only time he was fun was during the arena, he was far from the worst character I had to use to get through those mobs.

IMO the only character less fun than Karol is Estelle. I hate playing as both

I've been recently doing the 'Layers' extra dungeon in Vesperia. I'm definitely not a fan of them personally. Thankfully putting the game to easy, running through the floors, and the putting it back to hard has made them slightly more bearable. After that, I think I'll finish up the coliseum and then do the secret fells arms boss fight.

it's one of the better modern tales titles. great combat with little unique twists. NA translation is silly so keep that in mind. characters are decent. wish they would have rid the game of random encounters though.

Hearts R, Xillia 2 and Rebirth are my favorites.
Destiny DC would be great too if it wasn't so broken, but I guess I can overlook it since it was the first edition of the CC system proper and a nice step forward coming from Destiny 2.
I also like Graces F's general flow, but the complete absence of verticality and Perfect Guard being even worse than Destiny DC makes it too flawed for my tastes, it's a shame though since it's an interesting model in theory, don't know why or how they went backwards with Zesty/Berseria on that, the team merger really brought nothing but trouble.

Both of them are fantastic girls really. And even though I love Chole, I did enjoy throwing her around by her head.

Rebirth has a way more comprehensive tl than Destiny does at least. Though it's better not knowing what they're saying because the story is fucking awful even for tales, the whole arc 2 in general is a series low point. Really impressive how hard the combat carries it despite there being no fucking bosses.

I don't even get how he was so popular. Yes he gets shit done by killing off villains, but those villains were so completely corrupt that no one would argue that Yuri did anything wrong. My biggest question about Symphonia has always been how the elves have become so vanishingly rare, if in the past there were enough of them that they got enough half-elves to create a viable population? I know that by the time of Symphonia at the latest that half-elves have essentially formed their own separate race, but the founding population still had to have come from human/elf pairings, but elves are rare as hell now. So the best explanation is something ruined their population.
