Dunkey said it was shit.

it's boring, poorly written ("YOUR EXCELLENCY"), ugly, and poorly executed (the main characters barely interact with each other and don't feel like a cohesive main cast).
square already did this formula much better in the past with games like saga frontier and live a live.

Nintendo Exclusive (until a recent PC port)
Some random ass E-Celeb who hates JRPGs said it was shit, so the NPCs of Yea Forums just parrot him
No story interaction between the 8 characters

because it was shilled so hard on Yea Forums around original release

KEEP
SAYING
IT

>Turn-Based JRPG
>Square-Enix
>Nostalgiabait with zero creativity; can't even live up or exceed the game(s) it apes off of
>$60 + tip
This game was made in an afternoon on the budget of a half-dozen ramen coupons and a body pillow.
The fact that this was allowed to be a full release, rather than freeware, is why it's loathed beyond compare.
Those creatively bankrupt losers over at SE Nostalgia Division Subsidiary #3 can claim that it's a "love letter" all they want, it's a piece of unfiltered tripe and is everything wrong with Yea Forumsidya.
A pox upon all past, present and future associates of Square-Enix.

Honestly, I love the art style but everything else about it just puts me off. The writing is bland, the characters dont exist beyond a generic archetype, and the story structure just sucks. It just feels super low-rent and bland. But then again, their other games were the same way.

I like the game itself but the story is weak. There's literally no reason for the characters to travel together.

Also by design it was made to be played in 30 minute intervals, hence the split up story parts. They wanted you to play it on the go.

>Each person has their own story
>You can take any of the others along for the others stories
>But their existence remains unacknowledged from each other

I would say this is a critical flaw. A game like this could only work if the 8 paths were intertwined and all 8 characters were tied together. Instead it's just 8 separate minigames.

Look at how fucking disgustingly ugly the art style is
What the everloving fuck were they thinking? This shit looks like a browan bloom photoshop from 2011.
The enemy sizes are autistic as fuck as well. Final Fantasy did it because of hardware limitations.

When will we get bravely default on PC?

The only thing I don't understand is why they felt the need to copy the style 1:1
Why not do things better than the game you're inspired by?
>NEVER IMPROVE
There's your genre's motto. JRPGs are a fucking embarrassment unless they've got the "Action" prefix slapped on.

The 8 heores, 8 stories was executed really fucking poorly because they didn't want to bother with dynamic storytelling depending on who is in the party, so it's like you play 8 tiny stories for nothing, not even the final, final boss redeems it.
The gameplay is great and the aesthetics and music are nice, but the whole premise of the game just completely falls under the rug because of how shit it is where I'd rather would have wanted another Braverly game instead.

Yea Forums only shilled for it because it was a Nintendo exclusive but now that it's also on PC they ignore it, as they should because it's a mediocre ripoff of beloved SNES RPG's with none of the substance or style of those.

It came out RIGHT when everyone's Joy-Cons began to drift.

Boy is everyone here a fucking liars. Octopath Traveller is the most fun game I had ever played. The retro aethetics and battle mechanics were quite interesting.

You can't emulate it?
I mean it's the fucking same as this shit.
You can pretend the story being semi-coherent and linear in Bravely Default makes it better, but it doesn't.
I mean fuck, YOUR EXCELLENCY is mandatory and in every single cutscene in BD. If that doesn't disqualify it from being worth mentioning I don't know what will.
The game's shit, nigger. Ignore this company.

They didn't copy it 1:1. They just changed all the wrong shit.
Pic related is how this game should have looked. If the PS2 could do this, why not the fucking Switch?

Attached: maxresdefault.jpg (1280x720, 69K)

The turn based combat, class mixing, music, and art style are all awesome.

>Quoting the wrong person
>IF YOU DON'T LIKE WHAT I LIKE YOU'RE JUST A LIAR
on the off-chance you're actually capable of opinionated discussion: what'd you find interesting about the "retro aesthetics" and the "battle mechanics"

It's a nostalgiafag cashgrab playing on people's love for classic JRPGs while completely failing or missing the point at why people like said JRPGs in the first place.
Also millennials and Gen Z overrate its "unique" artstyle when it just looks like your average 2.5D PSX/PSP JRPG.

Also its trailers and advertising made it seem like its story would be far more ambitious and crazy than it actually was. I was expecting some epic interconnected story told from eight perspectives that constantly intertwined into some greater narrative with lots of variability on how the story goes and tons of neat character interactions and "Would this play out differently if I were this character?" but instead you just collected your party members early on and their stories didn't really overlap much.

I dropped it 50 hours in.

>want to try it on PC
>$80
>no torrent yet
$80 seems like a complete and utter farce for what this game is

But there's nothing Square Enix Japan has produced that I haven't enjoyed in some way or another.

Looks like dogshit

It's not going to happen because Bravely is one of those franchises that actually bothered to use all of the 3DS features, so ports are improbable

>Koei-Tecmo/ISIS accidentally made an actual RPG
>Square-Enix is still parroting their long dead and buried predecessor's works
What a fucking twist.

>NEVER IMPROVE
>There's your genre's motto
Why pretend this doesn't apply to most genres?

cause Yea Forums doesn't have taste

octopath traveller doesn't represent all turn-based jrpgs, you zoomer.

Because it's shit.

Because it's not on PS4.

because it's bad

stupidest post I've read all day
eat shit retard

Get better taste

Attached: 1564016494437.jpg (2877x3900, 1.26M)

The game is fine if you like JRPGs. It gets meme hate because some fat cuck e-celeb is too retarded to play JRPGs so he hates all of them.

Bravely default might not be a tightly written story, but you're being intellectually dishonest if you think it's even comparable to Octopath. The main cast at least talks to each other for the entire game and there's only 1 centralized story to focus on. Did you even play it?

keep saying it

You're gonna have to buy it for 3ds man

It's not bad, it's actually pretty great but it is judged harshly for not being perfect. The main issue is the lack of each of the plots changing depending on characters in your party, which feels a little off-putting to some. Later in the game it gets better but still many thought each branch would be significantly effected by who you had in party so far instead of it being a minor plot plus mechanics thing.

Aside from that some bristled at the cost of the game thinking retro graphics didn't justify a full priced title and other bull, but in general it was that the game was great but not perfect, equalling or exceeding the best classic titles that meant people thought if it wasn't perfect it had to suck .There are also those who follow the streamer or Chan memes about it sucking etc

someone splain this meem to me pls and sankyu

Wish we would but you can play them now via Citra.

>The game is fine if you like JRPGs
Depends, JRPGs are pretty varied in terms of appeal. I think it's merely average. The problem isn't that Dunkey hates JRPGs, it's that he goes out of his way to play specific types of JRPGs that he clearly hates, and expects them to change their identities to fit his sensibilities, while also lying about shit through his teeth.

He also says he likes Persona 5, which makes no sense because that shit has weeb pandering, one dimensional characters, samey turnbased combat and god awful pacing.

because Yea Forums is full of zoomers who actually watch ecelebs. You kids deserve the nwo hell hole being prepared.

The little party banter scenes were okay
but I always worried that I missed one by not having the right people during that segment

I enjoyed it a lot. The main flaws are the lack of interactions and repetitive chapter structure. The game is not meant to have a central story, that complaint is retarded.

It's on Switch so Sonygaf get butthurt about it.
The PC version is $80 and it is not piratable. So pirates get butthurt about it.

As a guy who played and liked OT, the reason people dislike this game is that it failed spectacularly on the two things we all thought it would be good: The Story and the Character Interactions.
I have a feeling this game was cut short someway through development, there are cool things but the blunders are staggering and may disappoint most consumers.

Outside of downright lying about certain parts of the game and never giving more clear criticism than "I don't like this mechanic" he just gave off his usual "WHY DOESN'T THIS GAME PANDER TO ME" attitude that he exuded back when he got banned from league and demanded special treatment because of his e-celeb status.
Fuck he couldn't even say liked P5 outside of saying "I think it's a good game" wow, what a great critic.
He's just been pretending to be retarded for so long that he's actually become mentally handicapped with the side effect of the ego inflation from his 12 year old fanbase

Attached: my homies.png (1831x1049, 2.61M)

>The Story
Why did anyone expect the story to be good?

Funny, I played and liked this game and think the story was just fun and pretty much what I wanted/expected. I'll agree the character interaction was lacking, but I never expected much.
It is good.

Game was made with replayability in mind, but most JRPG fans would rather play a game only once and then complain when it doesn't do things like other one-and-done JRPGs do in regards to story structure. Personally I love being able to do any shit in whatever order I feel like. I even like the up and down rollercoaster difficulty that comes with the design where I can slam my head against a chapter several levels beyond me and slowly overcome it, and then move onto a lower level chapter and completely fucking decimate it. You can even just completely ignore certain characters and their stories period and I love that in terms of replayability, I can just make a party of four and focus on their plots exclusively and consider that a fulfilling enough playthrough. If we do ever get a follow up game, I really hope they stick to this design idea and just try to improve how the freeform progression can be tied together instead of giving into peer pressure and making something where you have a stronger narrative with better character interactions but at the cost of restricting what story chapters you can do at a time, or god forbid, the plot just runs on some linear format and you only choose whose perspective you see it from or some shit.

Attached: 1534319737181.png (259x300, 132K)

brainlets can't find the run button from encounters or figure out strategies to blow up bosses so they call it a grindfest

>the plot just runs on some linear format and you only choose whose perspective you see it from or some shit.
people in this very thread are acting like this would be a good thing
we're fucked

that does sound pretty interesting

literally dunkey's fault

>Game was made with replayability in mind
How the hell is this game "replayable" when you can complete everything in a single run?
Because you can take the stories in different orders? That's literally any game that lets you sequence break.

This game should've stuck you on a single character path and acquired the other characters along the way with different interactions between them for it to have "been made with replayability in mind".
Something like seiken densetsu 3 makes more sense for a concept like that.
Also, I don't think anyone mentioned how bland the maps outside towns were. They were just a single road with little hidden paths that led to worthless chests in all cases.

They messed up the beginning a bit.
If you collect all characters you essentialy do a formulaic "1-10 zone" over and over. They follow the same formula each time, just of course a different setting, characters and boss and dungeon.

But it gets old. I know people who gave up before even collecting all characters.

>spoiler
and shrines and mini dungeons

>"poorly written"
You're either a retard who doesn't understand the family dynamic of Japanese adoption, or you're a retard too stupid to understand the subtext that Ophilia doesn't think she's worthy of being the Pope's daughter.
Or you're a total retard just spouting memes in response to something you know nothing about.
Take your pick, you third-world mong.

it's shit

>YOUR EXCELLENCY

I genuinely feel bad for this game and how one e-celeb literally ruined all discussion of it.

I just like taking on dungeons and bosses in different orders for varying degrees of difficulty, and with potentially entirely different team compositions on top of that. That's the real meat of this game to me.

Attached: 1531951128183.png (554x460, 291K)

XC2 and KH3 didn't have discussion ruined despite Dunkey dabbing on those too.

>bravely default hints on twitter multiple times
>nothing happens
>still no bravely HD collection remaster 1+2 for the switch
>no bravely 3 either

fuck

I was super excited for it until I was about five or six hours in. I feel like one of the biggest problems with it is the eight seperate stories. I know everyone says that, but I just found it increasingly annoying how each character was completely unrelated to one another. Not even dialogue during cut scenes. Really took me out of it. I really liked the combat at first, but eventually I just found it monotonous. I am interested to see what this studio puts out next, because I do think Octopath has a lot of good things going for it, art style and world building for example.

Attached: 1527900458537.png (600x640, 531K)

those are sequels with large preexisting fanbases, though
a little stand-alone game doesn't stand a chance
KH3 was even a colossal shit, and it still gets better quality of thread than OT

It's a bad and boring game, and this is coming from a guy that beat the damn game.
I regret purchasing it at full price

>gigantic releases versus some small game no one has heard of
also KH3 threads were filled with shit posting precisely because of him

Sonygaf hates Nintendo exclusives.

Did I like it more because I didn't marathon-play it straight through?
I only played one or two chapters a play session, and I changed my party around every time I played.

Okay, I was wrong. WHat the fuck is his problem?

this isn't sonygaf and octotrash isn't a nintendo exclusive.

the only dunkey-related shitposting for kh3 was coming from xv-kun, who was already shitting up every thread about it regardless.

Love how tendies stopped defending this trash as soon as it went multiplat

Live A Live was way better in every way imaginable.

its coming

Because that game too effort and artistic integrity, whereas Octopath was shit out by fucking Square Enix, the EA of Japan.

because a hispanic said so

Keep sayin' it

ITS BLACKED TWO BABY

No one cares about PC.

>so hated
I've seen like 2 or 3 threads after it's initial launch, one of them was about the PC port. More than being "hated" I feel like nobody gives a fuck

>XC2 didn't have discussion ruined
Bruh, what?

>liked the first demo well enough
>hated the second
It's weird. I feel like I'm not getting one good story with eight main characters, I feel like I'm getting eight shitty stories that never interact, except for that one hidden ending. I'd like the other characters you bring along to interact and comment on each other and the story.

i thought every switchfag also owned a high-end gaming pc? that's what they claim whenever anyone points out how multiplats/ports look and run like garbage on the switch.

Sitty dollahru gaijin YOU PAY NOW!

Attached: 1D09B014-8FA1-4ED3-A290-72E60D8B1B73.jpg (275x183, 8K)

its a generic jrpg without an established brand name

Console warriors saw an opportunity since it didn't get perfect 10 review scores like the rest of Nintendo's games that year, even though it's not a Nintendo game. Sonybros are cancer, news at 11.

>XC2 and KH3 didn't have discussion ruined despite Dunkey dabbing on those too.

those were ruined by Eric (shat on Xenoblade 2) and Barry (shat on KH3 at every possible turn while jerking off FFXV despite KH3 being the better game of the two)

Tressa is best girl

Attached: tressa.jpg (600x840, 518K)

>worse graphics than snes rpgs
Embarassing.

The whole 'human enemies are 10x the size of your party members' was always something I loated about the old FF games. What is even the point of having big enemies like dragons then, if all enemies are the same size to begin with? It just looks stupid.

And it's uttrly moronic how they think blurring the screen with a billion bloom/vaseline filters will improve the shitty graphics.

Attached: 39-Breath_of_Fire_II_(USA)032.png (512x448, 33K)

because its not on playstation

Because it's a legitimately fucking boring game that panders to nostalgia fags. If it had modern graphics it would've rightly been shit on for 0 depth

Hated?
Nintendofans were creaming their pants when it was released for the Switch.

Reminder that Shining Force came out in 1992, has better characters, a better story, better graphics, and is just an all around better game.

Attached: sf2shot07.png (1024x892, 19K)

Blind and seething duncuck followers

I unironically need to see the video ffs. Even if it's fake the metnal image alone makes me laugh.

It shits itself at the final area/boss.

>Nintendofans were creaming their pants when it was released for the Switch.

exactly, loved by Nintendo fans. Hated by Sony fans and an e-celeb (who hates JRPGs) shitting on it gave the Sony fans and other NPCs more ammo to shit on it

This. It also has a relatively active modding scene with various challenge modes and other mods that revamp the whole game.

holy shit really
please point me to it

Pretty much this. The game came out when the switch was starved for games in general let alone a good JRPG. Went out and bought it at gamestop and returned it like not even two weeks later. Boring tripe

Post processing on pixel art looks terrible

forums.shiningforcecentral.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=13147

Enjoy.

The dungeon designs are the most bland and uninspired JRPG dungeons I've seen.
I get that the gimmick is to base them off of classic FF but can we at least have something other than a million wrong paths with chests filled with shit loot and a single correct path?
Even Bravely Default did dungeons better because at least those ones never overstayed their welcome and had status afflicting elements in the design.
Other than that, the combat can be pretty fun at times but also incredibly predictable since every boss monster has to have that "I'm gonna use big dick attack, you'd better block all your party members!" attack. The combat at higher levels also devolves into the same tired scenario over and over.

P5 says hi lmao

It was an exclusive so people meme'd it to death, and since there was no nintendo defense force who gave a shit about the literally who game it got put through the ringer

the game's fine for its type of game, but you can't beat the memes, even with a pc release.

I swear to god I saw those pirate sprites in a Final Fantasy remake for the PSP screenshot

Retards
You don’t call the pope “Muh Nigga”
Especially not for a religion so powerful if a priestess asks you to follow them and people will leave their entire life just to follow you fight bosses and the follow the word of their god.
Even complete criminals are devoted followers
I wouldn’t fuck with that

The game is bad. Just bad. Like babies first RPG Maker game but with heavy visual effects.

garbage rpg maker game with no porn

It wasn’t hardware limitations, it’s a stylistic choice to make enemies look more threatening.

Overrated mediocrity. Sold at full price when it was worth $30 at most

>you'd better block all your party members!" attack
you're supposed to break their shields

>Overrated mediocrity
So why did Yea Forums like it so much?

Bravely Third soon my friend.

Attached: bravely-defaultoctopath-traveler-tease-1-1038x576.jpg (1038x576, 100K)

There's a lot of travel banter that you can access during the story missions that have interactions between characters, the weakest part of the party is why they are all traveling together in the first place, it basically boils down to "I need strong allies oh hi you exist you'll do"

Because it's a glorified indie game that costs $60

We didn't.

>Combat at high levels devolves into the same shit
You what, with Miguel you want to use leghold trap, so you can break early, try that with the direwolf and you're fucking dead, same with Winnheld who you have to transfer rune>sidestep for, but is generally a waste for most of the other 3 advanced classes.
Then both phases of Galdera require a heavy amount of trial and error to work out set ups that work for both phases

le funny voice man said it's bad or something, i dunno

Uhh, can we get some actual verified Yea Forums members such as Gladium here to verify?

It will be on ps4 soon. Prepare a new excuse now.

This. It’s also filled to the brim with ugly filters and effects, like they’re afraid people wouldn’t play a 2d sprite game in 2018.

It’s not a horrible game but it’s just not worth 60 dollars. Also voice acting ruins rpgs, I can read I don’t need awkward anime voice acting in my games. By the time a character is finished with their awkward pauses I would have read half the game’s script.

I mean to be fair, you can turn off the voice acting.

Um... it's not?

Keep seething, fag.

Attached: OctopathChadler.png (1020x420, 111K)

I was complaining about jrpgs in general. Especially shit like ffx.

Keep saying it

Because it's a middle of the road modern jrpg that got hyped up so monkeybrained posters started trying their hardest to make the boat sink. Reinforced by the fact that an e-celeb said he didn't like it pretty early on. It's just more hyperbolic modern internet shit, games can only either be perfection or the worst thing in the world.

Attached: 1544106223657.jpg (1920x1080, 794K)

>the game is fine if you like JRPG's

I like JRPG's and the game is trash you no taste faggot. Speak for yourself

>using defend instead of breaking the bosses' guard
Shiggydiggy
