I'd say Mario and Kirby games are fairly unique even in their genres, and that alone is merit to keep at them. Smash is also different enough from most fighting games (though if it was a regular fighting game, Sakurai would be destroyed by every other fighter on the market).
FE is definitely a babby's first though. Zelda is also babby's first Okami clone.
I've seen a few people here call FE an "S-tier Nintendo franchise" when it's clearly around B-tier.

Its very mediocre entry to the franchise all things considered.
Its flashy on the outside and the story and world-building manage to cover a lot of the poor design decisions, fetch quest additions, waifu/husbandofaggotry and poor strategy play, for normies and casual franchise fans.

yeah, it's literally nose-dived with the last few entries. Somehow hardcore FE apologists eat it up but secretly still only replay the old games. I guess its what you have to do when your series is becoming irrelevant in an already incredibly niche genre.
It's very similar, about 8.5ish million 3ds sales by end of Q1 2012 (Awakening was April 2012) vs the switch had like 8.13 million as of May 2019 when it passed the ps4 lifetime Japan sales and probably a decent bit more now.
