It's Zero(0)
Judgment
5 for content and gameplay, 2 for story and characters
How's Judgement? I heard it's good overall but have annoying and repetitive bits, especially tailing missions.
zeroas in none of them
>2 for story
it's great outside the tailing missions
Judgment has by far the best story in any Yakuza game ever. The combat is nestled in between 6 and Kiwami 2 in terms of Dragon Engine games. It's good, but not quite great, it has some neat additions though that I hope to see in Shin Yakuza. The side-activities and sub-stories are a disappointment. Yes, there is a bunch of good side-activities and sub-stories, but also some real fucking garbage like the tailing missions. The tailing missions are so fucking bad, you'll have to do it a couple of times in the main story, but if you decide to do all side-content then you'll have to tail quite a lot, and it really drags the side-content down a ton.
Judgment is a game you play mostly for the main-story, because it's fucking amazing, honestly the best thing in the entire RGG studios catalog. I think it's worth full price, but I'm a complete fanboy for these games too and eat them up.
Yakuza spin-offs >>>> yakuza games
FoTNS > judgment > yakuza 0
If we're not counting 0
4, 5, Kiwami 2 and Judgment is top-tier
6 has some really great side-stuff but main story and combat gameplay drags it down too much. 3 has too much cut shit in the localized version. Kiwami 1 is garbage.
I watched the movie the other day, it was garbage, don't waste your time.
As always, Majima was the best thing of it.
Why did Majima go crazy? Did Kamurocho make him stupid?
Was it the badly translated one up on Youtube?
Zero. Everything else pales in comparison.
Yes, but I got a better wuality version with better subtitles.
The bomb being a fake in 2 sums up perfectly why the writing in these games is terrible. Nothing ever actually matters or has consequence. Things happen just to have a melodramatic scene which ten minutes later doesn't even matter anymore. Kaz can be stabbed and left to die and then be back on his feet and fine 2 minutes later. These games are full of this shit. It's not even "twists" because that would mean things would have to be foreshadowed or at least still have consequence. But literally everything that you think is happening can be undone at any moment. RUBBER BULLETS is the most extreme example but the games are full of this garbage. It only annoys me because when people point out how shit the gameplay is they defend the games by saying "you idiot, you play for the story" but that makes no sense when they're written so badly.
God I fucking hate everything about most mini-games in these series.
I'm trying to do the golf shit in Kiwami 2 right now and I'm right about to punch a whole through my monitor. You'd think they're supposed to be fun but no, it's the most annoying horse shit ever.
>majima with shirt on
sad
why are you torturing yourself?
Its all an act, apparently.
>best yakuza game?
>hard mode: not the best yakuza game
the retarded fanbase like him being soooooo RANDOOOM xD lol he DANCES xxDD
there's no real reason, he'll act serious, silly, INSANE or "just pretending" depending on what they need in a scene. it's just random. don't expect actual consistent or good writing from this series.
Is this actually from a game?
haruka's request I guess
He was on a constant short leash in 0 so being insane gives him total freedom as no would even dare try to control him.
yes
I liked the Cabaret minigame in 0 but the real estate was boring as fuck and took way too long.
the bingo golf challenge is pure cancer good luck
He envied Nishitani's attidude so he tries to copy him
Does anyone know how to clear out the prize exchanges in Judgement? I fucking hate poker and hanafuda or whatever it is but I need the points for stuff. Do people just earn a bunch of money somehow and use that?
I don't know why people keep saying that.
Cabaret was more fun than realty, true, for the first couple of times you ran it. But after that the cabaret becomes a fucking chore, because you have to sit through the entire five minute long minigame sequence every time. At least realty can be done on auto-pilot while you're busy doing something else.
It's a shame Nishitani didn't get more screentime, he was a really cool character
it was okay until they decided to switch the fucking orientation of that thing, i can't even shoot directly for it because even at full power, the ball still curves. i basically have to center my swing in such a way that the ball lands right on the bingo box when it curves. do the japanese get enjoyment out of this kind of shit? what the fuck
A fair point
>more customization
>more interactive
>the characters have an actual personality
>not everyone behaves in the exact same way unlike realty where it's always introduction>minigame>fist fight
Talking dirty to them and hearing their responses was really hot, it's like I have a GF
>no right answers mode
no fuck you, its 0
I just beat chapter 1 of 0. How do I get into the sidequests? Do they come up naturally through the story and then I break off into them or should I be looking for them now in the city? I don't want to accidentally get really far in the game and miss sidequests or something.
>more interactive
But that IS the issue with it. The fan farm and the hostess special training takes too much time. It's all padding, and there's no reason you shouldn't be able to just buy all the property in a region and then immediately kick the next club owner's ass.
2 had the absolute worst story. It's over the top and cheesy even for a Yakuza game.
Side stories are not missable. Just keep playing and they'll appear around Chapter 3 or 4 I believe.
>its a 0babbies state 0 is the best despite never playing the majority of the series episode
>The fan farm
It's usually just buying all properties and 1-2 rounds of the minigame to unlock the challenge match. I enjoyed that a lot more than having yakuza run on my pc while i do other shit, espeically because i have to run it in the foreground to actually have time pass.
Some side stories are only unlocked at certain chapters, or after you do another substory on the other character's side. As the others said, you can't miss them and all will be available at the end or during the post-game. But you might want to diversify your story mode playthrough with an occasional substory here and there, instead of just leaving them all for the final chapter. Or not. It's up to you.
That's only because you didn't touch the realty during the entire game or something. You can absolutely painlessly max it out, while you're doing substories, or other mini-games, or collecting cards, or whatever as the collection progresses on its own.
maybe if i ran back after every quest
I have played all the Yakuza games and think 0 is the best one. What now, faggot?
you're the exception. let's not pretend the vast majority arent like that.
I've only played 0 and 6 and never post in these threads.
>Story

>Content

0. Kiwami 1 added fast style switching, but nerfing the OG style and making it so heat-dependent was shit.
the worst thing about the carbaret club was the special conversational trainings you can give your platinum hostesses
this shit takes forever and it's the most inane dialogue imaginable
the xp boost they get from it is also laughable
Don't forget the worst part - can't do the special once at a time, and have to run a full club session in between each of them.
The problem is that 0 is actually really good. So it's sometimes hard to tell a true fan who genuinely appreciates the culmination of a decade of Yakuza games, and a newfag that only started when 0 got an English release.
And what makes you say that? It's true just because you think it is? You're a fucking retard. I bet a million dollars that you'd also say 0 is the best if nobody else was saying so you hipster fuck.
1 really isn't great, 3 is shit, 6 is shit, 2 is good but the story is nonsense. So that leaves 4 and 5. Both good games, but are they better than 0? In my opinion, no. And a lot of people feel the same. If it makes you feel like more of a REAL fan to think otherwise, knock yourself out, but stop embarrassing yourself by crying about people liking a good videogame because you think they haven't "earned to right to" or whatever you unbearable autist.
You are the reason yakuza threads are shit now. Keep crying about newfags who like the same game as you do for no reason.
kiwami and kiwami 2's stories are so bad
please tell me the story gets back to 0 level in the following entries
That's a problem with 1 for me. You establish Kiryu and a cast around him. Then you let almost everyone die and have to write 6 more parts with barely any characters left. Of course it turnt out like that. I mean 1 alone has a rather decent story but it just doesen't work with 5 parts afterwards to come.
sadly saying anything positive about 0 now causes a bunch of faggots to flood threads with their seething, and the irony is they don't even disagree. they just want everyone to know they played all the games.
It gets worse and worse.
lol
Kurohyou
keep going, it all pays off in 6
:^)
Kiryu and Sayama dying on that rooftop would have been a nice bitter-sweet ending. They should have just gone with a new protagonist for the PS3 games. Instead, Kiryu had to be pulled back out of retirement again and again for the next decade.
holy shit how did the franchise not die off
but yakuza fans are retards who want the same thing again and again, so they get kaz again and again when his story was so clearly meant to end long ago. people are still saying they want kaz in shin and to be playable in future. for some reason they can never be satisfied. and now everyone wants wacky majima constantly, even though he's shit.
it was. sales were plummeting in japan. then they realized there were enough autistic people in the west to keep it afloat so now we get new yakuza releases every month.
Agreed. Yakuza would be a better and more interesting series if the location and style stayed the same or similar, but we continued the story with different characters. It seems like they might have wanted to do that, but we kept getting Kiryu unfortunately.
>Top tier: 0, 2, Ishin

this
Well, it's not like it stops being true from one thread to another.
Zero.
Judgment is definitely a step in the right direction. It reminded me of the first three chapters of 4, where you got to see what other people did in Kamurocho. It was a great way to feel familiar and new at the same time.
>cabaret is fun they said
>have to obsessively check all the stores in Sotenbori for fans
>it's the same exact thing every single round
>training the plat girls means having to go through a boring conversation -> minigame -> conversation loop until you unlock their stories
At this point real estate is better just because it passively happens in the background.
This is a copy pasta
i mean to be slightly fair that second part also applies for real estate, but they're both pretty boring honestly
yeah, what's a shame is yakuza 1 feels like a fresh new game built off the back of shenmue, but they never tried anything new again. they should have kept doing new things but instead sold the same game over and over for almost 15 years now. and apparently not only are people not sick of it yet, but they're begging for more.
it's also spot on
>2
it's shit jim
explain how it's true
2 is better than Judgment
>3 above 4
How? 4 is better in every way.
Hikaru Aoyama, My Wife!
Kirara has the best singing voice out of all of them.
Not him, but I agree with it. If you disagree with it, explain why. You do know how discussion works, right?
1
are you one of those autists who doesn't explain their position but just asks people they disagree with to explain themselves over and over and over and over even though they've already said what they think? how about you tell us what you think rather than wasting everyone's time? go ahead and tell us why the writing in yakuza is actually incredible and we're all just too stupid to notice
>doesn't explain why it's true
lmao
see
Project X Zone 2
well there it is. guess the post is right since people are agreeing with it and the only person who disagrees can't tell us why beyond "lmao"
you sure told us. thanks for the insight, faggot.
Yeah the thing is 1 is pretty much written like a novella, starting somewhere in kiryu's life and ending after all the yakuza happenings around him and then he literally retired. For part 2 they should've switched settings or at least establish a new protag instead of kiryu coming back from retirement.
it was a simple question.
you could've ignored it or actually provided an answer instead of wasting time by sperging out like an autist.
I completely agree. Maybe I'd disagree if someone could explain why they felt you are wrong, but I can't see any posts like that.
...
...
>explain how it's true
Ok, I'm going to take this low quality bait.
It's true, because "true" means "in accordance with fact or reality"
For example, "the bomb in Yakuza 2 was fake" is true, because if you play Yakuza 2, you see that the bomb is fake.
On the contrary, "Kiryu transforms into a Kraken in Yakuza 2" is false, because if you play Yakuza 2, you see that Kiryu doesn't transform into a Kraken.
I hope that helped. You're welcome.
he has made clear he has no actual interest in discussing it, you're wasting your time. you think he's going to actually explain his position instead of replying with low quality shitposts?
1
Kenzan.
/thread
Anything with Akiyama is best.
>STILL can't explain why the post is true
you should probably stick to copypasting posts in every thread, you can even add this one to your collection if you want!
they're terribly written, yes. but that doesn't bother me. I only wish the storyline wasn't stretched out with so many cutscenes and dialogue which are all so slow. I can invest infinite hours into a storyline if it's good enough, but yakuza storylines are just idiotic. that's why it's annoying to have cutscenes that feel like you're meant to take it seriously, only for some completely illogical twist to happen a minute later that makes everything that already happened not matter any more. the games don't respect your time or intelligence.
explain why you think the post is wrong
Okay, I'll bite. Tell me what's confusing you about the post, and I will explain it to you as clearly as possible. And then maybe you can tell me why you disagree, how does that sound?
Now, tell me what part of you need explained.
Wow, you called it perfectly
the entire thing, just explain why it's true.
jesus christ this
And when I do that, you'll reply to tell me why it isn't true? You won't just continue to nitpick my responses again and again while refusing to explain yourself? Because here's what I think will happen: I'll say why it's true, and you'll ask for MORE clarification, or complain about why I think it's true, and just not say why you think it isn't. Does this sound likely to you?
I will explain why it's true once you agree you'll explain why it isn't in response.

This is either a troll or a legitimate retard, in any case it's worthless arguing with him, he doesn't even deserve the (You)s.
I'm kind of enjoying watching him squirm though. Literally everyone in the thread can see he's a retard and his tactic failed the moment he started. And yet he's sticking to it.
i see that you have no intention of actually giving an explanation as to why the post is true, so i will mark this down as a victory for me, and a loss for you!
you never stood a chance.
4
True
>no dead souls
nigger faggot
Wow, me and everyone else who agreed with that post sure have egg on our faces now.
I'm glad you're taking being BTFO so well
You call that a collection? Ha! check this out!
bomb was the perfect opportunity to let the characters go out in a dramatic fashion and let the series continue with cool new leads but it was not to be
It's not even the cutscenes that bother me (even though there are a lot and they're quite slow) it's the hours of conversations you have to sit through while character models stand around staring at each other blankly. There is literally hours of this, it's what you spend most your time doing. And by the time you're fighting the last boss, less than 0.00001% of them actually mattered. Sometimes I feel like Yakuza games are more like timesinks for people with absolutely nothing to do instead of games. They could all be great if they stripped back the tedium but it seems what most people want is 100 hours of "content" even if only 10 of them are enjoyable.
I've played every game aside from the PS2 releases of 1 and 2 and the ching chong only games and 0 really is up there among the best at least in terms of gameplay.
I like 3 the most because of the Okinawan setting though
...
stealing is bad
>Judgment
>Flashback cutscene in Chapter 8 doesn't show Yagami or Kaito's face at all because they couldn't be fucked making younger versions of them
This really sealed it for me with how lazy they're getting. They had an opportunity to expand the series with a new protagonist and gameplay elements and aside from some rudimentary stealth shit it's all exactly the same.
sorry user we meant to make a new game but spent all the money on celebrities instead
i know dude this is like literally copy pasted garbo
4, playing new characters was a breath of fresh air and they were all god tier.
I also liked how they expanded Kamurocho, instead of multiplying the locations like in 5.
And the last part was fucking kino.
based and non-blacked
You joke but seriously, is there even a single new asset in Judgment other than celebrity face? A model of a drone I guess?
I won't deny I don't have much going on in life so it's nice to have something that will distract me as long as a yakuza game. western games usually don't have more than 8 hours in them and I'm not a fan of rpgs. yakuza is ideal for avoiding life for a while. I only wish they'd confirm the rereleases of every game. I will replay all of them happily.
Oh no, the game is ruined
How will they ever recover?
fuck you don't criticize the game, just buy it and praise it
she looks like one of my past classmates.
that's probably why i thought she looked really familiar
>he doesn’t have Kiwami and Kiwami 2

>he doesn’t have Fist of the North Star Lost Paradise
>he didn’t get Y0 The Business Launch Edition
Step it up user
Pathetic brainlets
The last act of Yakuza 2 and its attempts to tie all of the plotlines together with nonstop last minute twists is a trainwreck
Kiwami 1. All three styles, Yakuza 1 story, carries over your progress from the pocket race side quest from 0.
Judgment is an improvement when it comes to writing. (It's not like it could be worse, though) Combat being fixed still feels a long way off, lets hope that's the next thing they try work on.
Aside from Dead Souls what's the worst Yakuza of the North Judgment game?
Alright it's Dead Souls
Would dead souls be any better with an hd remaster
No, but neither would 3 and retards can't wait to get their hands on it
Where to start with the series?
I heard that 0 is better after you know the characters
/thread
Needs a full reworking of the controls as they were the main problem with it. I hated Binary Domain but at least it allowed you to move and shoot. The story itself when taken standalone is actually quite good as far as zombie games go. I would actually go as far to call it one of the more tonally consistent games in the series even if it is obviously non canon. There's no stupid twists (it's already about zombies, after all) and it is funny seeing Majima go apeshit and have the time of his life. Overall, their heart was in the right place.
Besides, they already sort of did remake it for Judgment as a House of the Dead knockoff rail shooter minigame.
This shits all over Yakuza by not having that faggot Yokoyama
judgment a best
So if I date all of the girls at the same time in Judgment will it come back to bite me in some scene like in Persona?
no
congrats you can throw money at thing
nobody actually fucking really cares at all
i started with 1 on ps2 a month ago and it was fine, it's kind of clunky but it's still fun
good man
yea i've only played 1 2 and am now working on zero. My favorite part about 2 was that kiryu retains knowledge from 1, like all the komaki skills carry over, feel like that's the first game i've played where a sequel doesn't just destroy all your progress for whatever reason.
There should have been a whole Saori minigame after this part.
kiryu should've left his legacy at 2 to be honest
as much as I love 5, I still think this

The entirety of Osaka Castle in 2 is the most retarded thing in the entire franchise.
Nishiki going full evil the way he did was stupid, even with the stuff they added in Kiwami, and Jinguu fucking sucked. I can respect Yakuza 1 for starting the franchise and laying the groundwork for everything that came afterwards, but that's about it.
Eh it was fun, felt like they were prototyping Kenzan with all those assets.
Sengoku also has money to do it so whatever.
doesn't have karaoke, gets an automatic zero from me
they couldn't include karaoke because of the celebrity main character
they are now spending the entire budget on celebrity faces and voices which is now directly leading to less content

>Enjoy the game for the cheesy melodrama with hit and miss humor
>Someone always feels the need to tell me the flaws I'm aware of in an attempt to get me to not like it anymore
>"I like it despite all the flaws man, cheesy melodrama and low brow humor is my thing"
>"REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE JUST READ A BOOK"
Some people are genuinely fucking autismal
who are you quoting?
B-But the gameplay is not dmc tier!
Probably some effeminate sissy boy that gets overly defensive when people likes things he doesn't like.
That guy would probably get his block knocked off if he walked into my neighborhood just sayin'
This. I already know the writing is shit, I don't know why people feel the need to say it. It's not like I'm ever going to stop buying the games.
damn, this shit makes me smile
This is my favorite criticism of the game, like people who played the games for hundreds of hours just never realized the games weren't trying to challenge you with street fights or something
Unironically 0
>I agree with the people who are pointing out the flaws in the game, but they're autistic, not me
Okay? Thanks for letting us know what the voices in your head sound like I guess.
>That scene where he drinks the Staminan Royale after getting his ass kicked in a boss fight
at least it's true to the games
>Dead Souls versions
meh
They're autistic because they think simply naming flaws will cause some mass exodus.
I seriously doubt most of the people into Yakuza are impressionable children, the gameplay isn't anything to write home about, the writing doesn't appeal to kids, outside maybe the side story humor, and even then that may go over their heads.
Sorry you tried the games out and you didn't like them? You seem severely autismal
A better framerate might help, but you would need some serious changes to make the game worthwhile like redoing all of the sidequests (which are just fetch quests)
I love it when some 0fag or tranny shows up in a yakuza thread screaming about how shit the combat is as if we don't know already. that's why 0fags are a cancer. if you played all the games you'd know this observation has been made a million times already. yeah, combat sucks, we know. yawn. next non-issue please?
>They're autistic
Stopped reading there because I feel I need to remind you that your entire argument is based on people saying things that you have imagined. Please feel free to the people in the thread saying this:
>"I like it despite all the flaws man, cheesy melodrama and low brow humor is my thing"
>"REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE JUST READ A BOOK"
There is nobody saying this. You just seem to have a persecution complex. But the weirdest thing about it is you're complaining about people saying opinions you yourself say you agree with.
And that's how you get caught falseflagging retard.
No one said the combat sucks, just that it wasn't amazing, and that it was merely serviceable.
I know such nuances fly through your skull making the peanut in your skull whip around due to it's teeny tiny size but at least pretend you're not retarded
They proably did that so they had more to work with moveset wise
I hope we get to see more Ayabe in the future. I really liked him.
user I'm a fan of the games and from the sounds of it I like them more than you. You're the one who showed up saying the writing was bad and the comedy was hit or miss. But yeah okay I have autism.
This. Combat has always been a weak point of these games. Literally nobody has ever argued otherwise.
>user I'm a fan of the games and from the sounds of it I like them more than you.
Literally why would anyone care what your assessment on how big of a fan someone is?
It just reads like someone that needs to cosign their statement with "As a big fan of this franchise, I think this"
No one fucking cares, just state your opinion faggot
except in North Star
I only clarified because you seemed to be accusing me of trying to turn a nation against yakuza or some shit, lol. Quit jumping at ghosts. You seem really mad at something or someone and I have no idea who or why.
Have they said whether or not Judgment characters will show up in the new Yakuza game?

any reference to his life before he changed makes me sad for some reason
>not having imported the "Century's end edition of Hokuto Ga Gotoku" which allows you to have "Ai wo torimodose" and "Tough Boy" as ingame soundtrack
who said this?
Nobody. There is a drunken autist in the thread getting mad about his own strawmen. He's fuming about posts about DMC and reading books which nobody has made.
i only made that one post about dmc but okay, but if you were in the last few yakuza threads everybody was fucking fuming about the gameplay, screeching at each other that it's bad, or that it's good. i saw like 5 threads in the last 3 days that were 80% this.
But it's bad. Anyone who claims otherwise has only played 0 or Yakuza games are literally the only videogames they've ever played. Combat has always been a weak point in the series, along with the writing.
why should I care about any of this is my attention span is so bad I don't remember or care about what happened in the game 10 minutes prior? twists keep it from getting boring, who cares if it doesn't work as a whole, you'll never remember everything that happens anyway
I've played just about all of them aside from the PSP ones and I don't think it's that bad. I wouldn't have played them if I thought the combat was really bad.
based ADHD zoom zoom
yeah the combat's not that bad. not good by any means, but not unplayable.
The movie made me wish game Majima was less of a spastic retard. Lazy crazy Majima was kino.
it's not literally awful, it's serviceable, but it does feel fun to pull off counters and shit, it just bothers me that everyone compares it to god hand or dmc or whatever and says "it's fucking garbage you like a garbage game shut up"
what is this of yakuza
I feel the same way when people criticize Batman combat. It's not really fair to compare these games to games with better combat systems. Yes, they're brainless. Yes, there's no challenge at all. Yes, they're button mashers. But do they make you feel like a badass? hell yes.
>Kiryu doesnt kill
>meanwhile here I am buying an AK and huntung down everyone in the streets
True
Desu i’ve developed some appreiation for bamham after playing shit like shadow of morder or stories path of destinies where I see just how much worse the free flow combat style can be. Mordor is fun but its non nemesis enemies are really crap compared to batman.

He's in jail for the next several years at the very least, outside of Yagami visiting him as a hello there's no real way they can reintroduce him into the story again besides knowing some minor things. They have years of him leaking police information for at least half a decade or more and running an underground casino both of which aren't falsified information and with hard evidence.
It sucks but it is what it is.
>women
>The movie made me wish game Majima was less of a spastic retard.
Play the games after 3
I'd honestly put Judgment up there with Zero. Hell, they even used a lot of the music from Zero for some of the shops and substories. The main story is great and Yagami's fighting style is cool once you get used to it.
It's about as repetitive as the other games. I didn't really mind the tailing missions but they could have definitely been a bit better.
God damn his arms are gone too, brutal
>Hell, they even used a lot of the music from Zero for some of the shops and substories
sweet, I love being reminded of the other games when playing yakuza. any other nods to the other yakuza games in judgment?

3 (yes, it was the first one I played)
I regret nothing.
I have been mocked in the past for not getting emotional during some of "the great" films and tv shows out there. (I'm a little autistic) But Yakuza and anime can make me emotional because the writing is melodramatic and it's always very clear what I should be feeling. The music helps, but mostly I like that the characters all say clearly how they are feeling and what they are thinking. This helps me understand them and I can feel myself getting emotional from the sad parts.
