I do play it, just not very much right now until they release something new. I've already gotten all dyna D unlocks, R15 weapons, +3 relic gear etc.
As for getting into it right now as a new player? Not sure I could recommend that unless you are willing to trudge through like 200+ hours of solo story content and/or you have friends who already play and will help you
I'm not gonna.
What are you gonna do about it, OP?
I want to, I loved this game back in 2004.
Theres no way I can commit the time now as an adult.
Already playing on the private server eden.
I won't do anything. But Lion might.
I loved this game but there's too many games/anime on my backlog to be able to spend the time I'd need to enjoy it again on a private server (retail reddit autists get fucked)
But it's the perfect mmo to play while watching anime. You can fish or grind trash mobs while watching.
i still play on and off. the game is obviously a shell of what it once was but i still love jumping on, doing some random bullshit, being toxic in asura shout, etc.
>As for getting into it right now as a new player? Not sure I could recommend that unless you are willing to trudge through like 200+ hours of solo story content and/or you have friends who already play and will help you
this too pretty much. granted i wouldn't say its too hard to find someone willing to help you(i do it all the time, i actually still like helping newbies to this day, that kind of community stuff was practically the heart of the game for me circa 2002/2003) but there's still going to be a LOT for people to get used to or wrap their heads around. its going to feel especially burning when they wrap their heads around the retarded shit that is abyssea only to find out its basically not relevant anymore outside of a few things. i suspect itd be even harder for a modern ffxiv player to get into and enjoy ffxi. theres just waaaaay too much here and not all of it is fruitful or directly communicated as such like in ffxiv
man grinding lu shangs was the worst back in the day. i absolutely always had something else on while i was doing it.
i was once proud of my accomplishment but now you can just buy the rod for pennies at the ah
I guess I should mention I don't watch much anime anymore. I'd probably actually play if I didn't have a hacked Switch with a library to go through right now though.
>ffxi thread
>its going to die
but i love these threads bros talking about my favorite dead game is legit comfy
i had a pretty comfy party the other day, leveled from 21 to 27 at qufim and later carpenter's landing
It's too late, user. I'll never be able to have an adventure in the heydays of FFXI. It's a game almost as old as I am.
The playerbase just won't be the same as the one everyone's nostalgic about, and the playerbase is surely half the experience at least.
private server? ive been thinking about starting a character on one. a small youtuber i watch has videos of him playing on it and it brought back some of that "i literally have to sit here and rest before i can heal any of you retards so dont pull" feelings from so long ago. which one are you playing on, if you are? im mostly asking because 21-27 is like, 5 minutes on official servers now
As a vet, I can vouch for the experience Eden has. Many players of this game barely even touched most of the games content but they all loved the game and played it for a long time among who will be the "vets", and there will be new players joining too. Give it a try if you feel like it.
yup, eden is the best edenxi.com
Can't forget it but can't play golden era with the ls ever again.
the real feels right here. private servers are cool because they allow us to relive at least the game portion of ffxi but you'll never be able to replace that first group of good friends you made playing
god i wish they were still playing.
but that the point and best part of the game now, and you don't need help to do it.
>gets claimed by a player wearing Leaping Boots in your path
>play for years but never got LL
>ended up never needing the boots since the classes that would benefit from them were already leveled or i didnt care about
>years later getting ready to quit the game
>strolling by gustaberg and see LL spawn
>claim and kill
>boots drop
>some scrub walks by and examines me
>quit the game later that day
such is life
It doesn't exist.
>absolutely worthless subhuman claims Nunyenunc before me
>doesnt even fucking play whm
Been thinking of trying out a private server before buying into retail to do the story, any recommendations?
Tried out I think nasomi and eden the last couple months but both times I did it I was very, very tired and mostly fuddled with not understanding the controls and smacking rabbits in the field with a knife
>Can't even tell you how many times I've camped, claimed and not gotten that drop
>so many over so many years
>even after the drop was replaced by Bounding Boots to thwart Chinese gil farming, still nothing
>stop playing
>many years pass
>decide to play again for nostalgia's sake afgter all the changes were made to make the game more casual friendly
>Bastok is a ghost town
>take a walk outside to refresh memories
>same with gustaberg. empty.
>walk towards wadi
>there's lizzy (lol)
>slay her in like two hits
>get the drop on first kill
>get a little emotional but it's sill bittersweet. More bitter than sweet though
Try eden again and try talking to people and joining a linkshell as fast as possible. That's the quickest way to get into it.
I am, on Eden server. Anyone have a linkshell I can join?
I actually started todayon a private server tho, Nasomi. It actually seems pretty comfy, and I even did some leveling with one guy. Also, how do I unlock Records of Eminence?
RoE is a retail feature. Nasomi has like 30% of the games entires content.
I'll have to figure that out. Don't think I ever saw anyone else, just one guy buying a teleport in a shout channel.
weren't records added post-adoulin? i dont play on nasomi, are they really up to that expac?
That's a bummer. I'm guessing there isn't a better private server right?
There isn't. The purpose of the private servers isn't so much to offer a means of playing for free as it is to attempt to recreate the state the game was when it was 'good'.
>how do I unlock Records of Eminence?
That's a modern thing, wasn't in the game in the era that private servers emulate. If you ever play retail I think you access it from the silly floating books that are all over the place. Might have it confused with another silly modern feature?
i think you guys are getting confused with fields of valor
Records is actually handled from the main menu and a few key npcs in the cities. i believe you're thinking of fields of valor?
>Don't think I ever saw anyone else,
How unusual. I guess you must not have explored your starting town much? Each city has 3 or so maps and players do tend to congregate on just one of them (near one of the two auction houses)
Eden seems the way to go these days. It played better than Nas even back when it was called Kupo and had no population whatsoever. Nowdays the population is seriously catching up. Nasomi definately still has the largest community though.
What classes does everybody here main?
I main Blue Mage
i tried, but the fucking launcher wouldnt let me
there is absolutely no way barry/xv-kun would come into an ffxi thread of all things...right?
anyway when i got back into it and made a new character i went with COR. it was mad fun even when i was doing this hard as fuck ambu clearly undergeared. did not manage to gear up for any serious endgame content unfortunately. some of the trials and farming were starting to really get to me. at the very least i had a competent SB set before i stopped. ill likely get back to it eventually.
im also seriously considering joining a private server after this thread. likely would main WHM as much as possible, since that's what i originally played and i have serious nostalgia for just resting and healing in the dunes/qufim for some reason. i remember really feeling like my mp basically made or broke the party a lot of the time. it was a good mix of chill and tension. good times.
Official or Private Server?
I wanted to but it's hard to get back into. It's so weird how this game was an improvement over Everquest in every aspect except the UI and controls.
