How is it? I thought the first game was decent.

It's good fun.
Its good. Just wish there was more than 1 campaign. Replaying rn and its a lil boring after you know where everything is.
It's alright. Everything that Larian comes out with is at least fine, even Beyond Divinity and Divinity: Dragon Commander were okay. Ish.
I put a lot of hours into it in the beginning now I just play it sporadically. Still enjoyable though
Very good, an overall improvement to 1.
Just don't listen to the swarm of morons who are about to tell you "armor bad you MUST stack 1 damage type to do anything!!", these people are just bad. Play how you want, and take advantage of the infinite respeccing you can do after act 1.
It's fucking great.
Me and my girlfriend are playing through it on tactician for our first play though and it has been incredibly challenging so far. We have had to min max a lot, search out every side quest, leave fights and come back later, get our bartering up and use theft to be able to acquire better loot, learned to craft to just give us that much more of an edge: and it's all been incredibly fun.
I have gotten mad and regretted the decision a few times and we had to come back to it another day but damn is it a good RPG. What every RPG should aspire to be, amazing dialogue, combat, it's all there.
Honestly, DDC is my favorite Divinity. I really enjoy RISK. RISK + waifus + ship politics = maximum fun.
>tfw the armors get progressively worse looking as you get higher in level
>I disagree, therefor they must be stupid and/or disabled
nah, the armor system as it is is pretty shit. Completely 180's how the game treats role diversity compared to the first.
Fuck you Ifan, you know what you did.
It's shit
>great first act and gets progressively worse afterwards
>mmo tier combat (turn based with cool down based skills)
>no point in making custom characters
>shitty equipment progression
>Larian humor
>90% of enemies are humans or voidwoken bugs
>infinite free respecs
>no classes, making every build feel samey
>characters die and come back to life for no reason
>most characters are written like a living gimmick instead of an actual person
>dude huge explosions lmao
>armor is just a lazy copout to quickly deal with the first game's problems without having to deal with adding an actual crpg's save mechanics
its way worse than the original, they added a retarded magic armor system that makes your spell combos worthless until you destroy another health bar with damage spells
>no classes, making every build feel samey
Yeah, I also hate to be able to choose what skills I have instead of being locked into a cliche role
Do I need to have finish 1 to play this? I ended up getting bored and dropping it half way through.
There's a few callbacks, but nothing that'd lessen the story/dialogue
>could've got a pugilist "class"
>instead got that shitty summoner garbage
>literally no way to make unarmed attacks viable even though there are enemies that fight unarmed in the game
shit game
Classes add more depth, there's nothing wrong with them.
Admittedly I did feel like we missed out with no pugilist tree but I also actually like Summoning, why not both would have been my response to what we'd get in a hypothetical third game but the spinoff says it's time for guns instead. There is an unarmed mod but I never got around to seeing how balanced/good it was
CRPG of the decade
The story is honestly borderline nonsensical trash but it has great gameplay. Also one of the best games to play coop with friends that are currently out there.
(you)
Classes steer you into predefined archetypes. D2 is better than that.
Its good, but its combat is worse than 1 by miles.
make sure to get Pet Pal talent
>Just don't listen to the swarm of morons who are about to tell you "armor bad you MUST stack 1 damage type to do anything!!"
Retard. Anyone can beat the game with hybrids the fact is the system is just so bad there is no reason to take hybrid parties.
Are you playing lone wolf too? I found that min maxing wasn’t quite worth it on tactician (at least with lone wolf on). Once an enemy gets on your dps, then they’re practically dead. Putting some tank while sacrificing damage means you don’t have to waste ap reviving or healing. Then again, I was playing with my buddy who I thought played like complete ass. Spent a whole turn hardly laying any damage just putting on rain and turning the floor into ice.
beyond divinity is bsolute garbage
Divinity 2 : developer's cut, OTOH is an underrated gem
>no arguments
>Classes steer you into predefined archetypes. D2 is better than that.
Classes can be focused around different things and can have unique mechanics.
Also when you allow for custom skill combinations like in OS2 a lot (often most of them) will end up being bad, which would force you to respec. Free respec is a design crutch that destroys replayability and lessens the impact of you being able to freely combine skills (since too much of it isn't viable).
It's a similar mistake Blizzard did with Diablo 3.
is there any way to make focusing on damage over time statuses like burn, bleed and poison a viable strat? is bursting everything the only way to play this game?
compared to the first:
-worst story
-armour system
=same level of writing
+combat is improved, aside from the shitty armour system
+more skills and more spells each
+act 2
-act 4
freeform system > lock into class from the start and for the rest of the game
Games with classes have overall more variety than D:OS2 especially since D:OS2 has tons of utility skills you take on every/most build like teleport or polymorph skills
Biggest misconception there is.
You think it offers more freedom, but said freedom is pointless if it's not viable.
It's quantity over quality which in fact turns into a lower quantity because of the lower viability.
The very reason there is free respec is because so you can't get fucked by this "freedom". Not all combinations are actually supported which makes the entire system fall apart.
There's more than one solution to certain utility skills being too prolific
Path of Exile is a great example of this, there's nine-ish different skills that either teleport or move you really fast, but they have different stat and gear requirements so not everyone can use the best one or two.
I'm playing Divinity: OS 1 now.
How does it compare to Pillars of Eternity? This is fun, but it feels a little goofy. Like every character is supposed to be a comedic character.
Apples and oranges. I prefer Pillars 1. Your companions are more interesting and the world feels less like a facade than DivOS, but the plot isn't engaging and many of the combat encounters are tedious. The expansion is great though.
It's an overall improvement to 1 in terms of average zones.
In the first game, only Cyseal was good and the rest of it was insufferable.
In this one, half the zones are decent.
