Is Half-Life 2 truely one of the best games ever or has it aged poorly?
Is Half-Life 2 truely one of the best games ever or has it aged poorly?
It was good for its time but I still play it on Gmod and make it into a tactical shooter
It's okay. I think the amount of backlash it gets now is well-deserved since you couldn't criticize the game for over a decade. It's a mediocre title, especially when compared to the original. The only thing Half Life 2 does better is multiplayer.
HL1 holds up better because it has less downtime, exposition and way better arsenal and mods.
its a solid fps game but it's main selling points are things that are now stock standard in the genre. BECAUSE it was so groundbreaking and set the standard for the genre, it can feel barebones when you go back to it 10 years later.
still pretty fun tho
Yes and FPSs/games in general still haven’t been able to implement physics as well as it did.
The setpieces are still as good as they were back in 2004, so for me it didn't age poorly at all.
atmosphere is still 10/10
It's excellent.
Both
Any game that features unskippable, lengthy, real-time cutscenes that force me to wait around before I can actually start playing again will never be on my "best games ever" list. That's really the only thing about HL2 I dislike, though.
>holds up better
>posts mod
it was always a garbage "cinematic experience." it only gets a free pass because "based gaben" made it instead of sony or rockstar.
I have spent years trying to figure out what it is that makes HL1 so great. the graphics were high fidelity at the time but has aged poorly aesthetically, the gunplay really isn't very good, and the puzzles range from braindead to frustrating, but yet I still find myself coming back to play through it again every few years. What is it? Is it just like the setting or something?
i think it does. played it for the first time in recent years so while the impact and significance of the game's features like physics are lost to me, the atmosphere really drew me in, especially ravenholm and the highway levels. the graphics still hold up well for a 15 year old game, and while the combat isn't great, it's as least amusing with the gravity gun.
Nice reading comprehension, you fag
It's one of the best games ever. Don't expect it to change your life or anything, but it IS an awesome game.
I used to be into it but then I grew up and realized that Valve really rushed it out the door and fucked several things up because of it. The Half Life 2 beta that was leaked had a much cooler, more interesting setup going for it.
I've never played either HL1 or HL2. Maybe I should buy them and try them out as an experiment. I'm 24 btw, just never had a gaming PC until 2015
I don't see why not. You will either like or hate them.
It's better than a lot of fps games coming out these days because it doesnt have half assed rpg lite systems thrown in for no reason.
With how cheap you can get both games you absolutely should try them.
>le ebin brutal gory mod
why do fags always have to do this to cool games
Nah I'm on a replay right now and yeah, it's still good. Playing in 3D this time and having a blast. I've been paying more attention to the Combine and Civil Patrol radio chatter and it's awesome.
Dilate
I like replaying it with smod.
I usually don't like playing older games because they tend to age poorly and are usually too much of a bother to get through. Half Life 2 though is one of my favorite games and I played it just last year. I played the first game around that time as well, it was also great. Don't know why I adore both of them so much despite not liking older games.
You gonna play some of most highly rated games in the FPS genre or what user?!
The game is alright but Source engine brought great comfort for many years. Gmod, Deathmatch, CS:S, and a billion other things that came from one game is retarded good.
