RESIDENT EVIL

Isn't the idea of being scored based upon the speed you beat the game sorta antithetical to the slow-paced play encouraged by survival horror games? I feel like a better scoring system would calculate the amount of items used, the damage you took, and how efficiently you played. You could keep the speedrun score as a separate thing, though.

Yeah but it’s not antithetical to the game because it’s not a survival horror game. It’s a TPS.

That's the point, you dunce. Playing it slow feels natural because it's easier and more intuitive. Playing it fast is fucking hard.

How is it not survival horror?

I agree, but I feel like there should be two different scores.
They should add Akumu mode.

Pretty much. I would go one step further and just remove the "speedrun score" as you call it. It has no place in a survival horror game (and many other games). It's not like it is needed to speedrun games anyway.

There's no point in removing it for people who enjoy it, but they should add a second score for people who like to play autistically slow when exploring, like myself.

Claire.

Yes there is, because I'm forced to speedrun the game if I want to unlock everything. They can keep the clock, but it shouldn't be tied to unlocks & rank.

RE2 was never slow paced

im not gay but i think it would be funny if Leon kissed me haha

It's because playing it fast is extra difficult. The first time you play the game you will take your time but after mastering the game you might attempt wilder and more risky approaches that might have been suicide on your first run but now you have the confidence, knowledge and skill to pull it off so it's a nice way to make the game frightening and tense for your first couple of runs but also something that can highlight your mastery over the game on the long run.

If you remove it you're just making the game less interesting.
On your first run you can take your time, but on a second/third run not rewarding or incentivizing the player to take more chances and riskier approaches then you're just making the subsequent runs more of the same instead of something that makes you play better and faster.

Iirc you can get the highest rank if you don't use healing items and don't save more than a couple of times so clearing it without speed running it is possible.

fuck you nigger, you want your bonuses ? do the challenges.

Pretty much. What's the joke in getting an S+ rank if you can get it by playing without mastering the game? A big part of the challenge in RE is optimizing your routes and which enemies to kill/not to kill, all of that goes straight to the shitter if you make the safest and slowest approach have the same value than something that requires more skill and better decision making.

What they could do is have alternate ways to unlock stuff. Like by finding certain collectibles or doing specific challenges outside of the speedrunnng, without removing the speedrunning reward.

What's your favorite costume? Noir makes me feel like I'm playing The Evil Within. Casual outfit makes me feel like I'm in Silent Hill.

Which is why Capcom added the option to unlock everything for $4.99.

Jesus christ. That's even worse. I may not like speedrunning but I will never purchase unlockables I have done nothing to deserve. That really shows today's mentality in games. Is the game too hard? Just purchase this cheat DLC.
While it should be: Game is too hard? FUCK YOU, either git gud or never finish the game.

Noir makes me feel it's the 1950s and niggers were kept in line.
So yeah, that's my favorite.

Making money out of stupid and lazy people is marketing 101

did some nigga stole your girl?

Nah, I just saw some FBI crime statistics and read the bell curve.
Really makes you think.

I never gave two shits about the score and I've played re my whole life.

You're not supposed to speedrun the game for your first playthrough.

If you played the game with no outside knowledge or opinion you wouldn’t know they scored you like that til the end. Then your second playthrough you can care about score.

>waah i have to do something hard to unlock stuff!
fucking zoomers.

The timer rewards game knowledge.
The game loses any horror impact by the third playthough, at which point they move from "try to survive" to "do it as fast as possible"
It gives a reason to play beyond your original playthrough.
