It's a shame they didn't go into Marie hating octolings at all when Off the Hook came along. It's just ignored. I assume she's fine with them after Octo Expansion but it's a shame there isn't even a single line of dialogue about it.

Fan art usually makes me hate characters because they tend to make the character look more slutty/sexual and it becomes a symbol assosiated with cumbrain posters and gradually makes you associate your hateful feelings with that character.
The same thing happened with Marina. There's so much disgusting art of her that gets reposted on Yea Forums all the time that makes her look like a swollen bimbo trashy niggress and there's a whole circlejerk of autists praising it every time it's posted. It made me hate Marina so much. But then when I went on Splatoon 2 after months of not playing it, I looked at Marina, and my god I was so shocked at how different she was to how I remember. She looks likeable, I didn't hate her at all even though I braced myself for it. This is what autistic cumbrain off-model posters do to a character. I still much prefer squid sisters to off the hook, and I'm still a little annoyed they outright replaced them, but all the characters are so much more likable in canon than you disgusting autists try to make them out to be.
