it's actually remotely stable now, you can do infinitely more in terms of modding, you can actually run the game smoothly and at a resolution higher than 320x200, and there's dozens of QoL improvements
Putting the game in a new engine also makes it much more stable. DF Unity has never crashed for me whereas vanilla would frequently glitch and CTD

Completed Daggerfall unity several months ago with no issues. Appearently the only things missing was some magic item effects and lycantrophy. I had no issues that didnt exist in the original. Can attest it works well. The improved view distance is based, and the game runs ten times smoother than the DOSbox version.
I wish this style of gameplay hadnt fallen so much out of favour. At least some indie studil should have beeb able to make a daggerfall esque game at some point.
No matter though. Daggerfall unity has modsupport so looling forward to what comes out of that.

Download the Soundfont from any source fucking Yea Forums mods labeled Anonfiles or Roland as Spam
And then extract on "Daggerfall\DaggerfallUnity_Data\StreamingAssets\SoundFonts"
Then open or create a settings dot ini file inside DaggerfallUnity_Data folder and add SoundFont= filename.sf2 there is a settings dot ini at locallow too

Daggerfall unity has an option on startup so you just click and not have to move the mouse, also you can reconfigure the controls so that lmb is the button instead of rmb.

That actually only super fucked weapons which had capped damage based on your skills which would not even remotely keep up with inflated enemy HP scaling in the vanilla game. It could get so full-retard you'd have to repair weapons mid-fight or spam hundreds of arrows to kill a single enemy.
Weakness to magic spells stacked with itself in Oblivion so you could just spam it on targets a few times until they're like 300% weaker to magic and then insta-kill them. Easiest way to deal with the HP sponge garbage in vanilla Oblivion. Although obviously no one should ever play vanilla oblivion ever.
It was most useful for the utility stuff like being able to super jump across the continent for fast travel with leap spells. At the end of morrowind though you basically become god of everything and there is no point in using spells when you can just kill everything in a few swings with sunder/hopesfire or whatever.
And becoming a god where you have super powerful spells or other shit required abusing alchemy more than magic, and that can just as easily give you super retard strength that lets you one shot everything with a shitty dagger. Actually enchanting was way better than magic in vanilla morrowind if you weren't abusing alchemy because it could recharge and had no internal cooldown for spamming that shit, you could just shit out like 10 spells within a couple seconds and annihilate anything.
So yeah I guess if yeah if you count alchemy and enchanting as magic then you could say that. I will say magic is good starting out when your weapon skills are garbage.

It's strong and you'll definitely need certain utility spells, but training it is complete fucking ass and magicka is too finite to go pure caster. There are no magicka potions to chug.

Privateer's Hold was literally designed to demolish you if you go the wrong way as a basic form of copy protection. The manual included with the game tells you how to get through it, you're meant to follow a guide.

Works the same as Atronarch birth sign does but without the stunted magicka
it's not a Skill and there's just set recipes for making any particular potion. there's no log for the recipes and they're found on pieces of paper as loot. you can just google a list of all the recipes if you want though
taking magical damage gets converted into magicka. fireball is aoe spell you can get at the start and when it hits an enemy and the aoe hits yourself, you pretty much get all the magicka spent back
You can still rest to get MP but getting blasted by a spell gives the MP used to cast it as well

streetwise effects the “lower classes” peasants and i believe merchants as well as criminals
The former also effects your ability to debate in court, and your chance to pacify human enemies in combat
As far as I know streetwise doesn't have any additional effect besides being able to lie in court
So how good is Monk in this game? I did the little questionnaire and it ended up making me a Monk, which worked out fine in the first dungeon up until some random swordswoman killed me in two hits.
Many people get stuck because they don't see the lever, or they get lost, or they don't know how to climb
A “monk type” is ok, but pre-made classes are mostly garbage compared to custom ones
Check the original Daggerfall manual which lists the pre-made classes which are “easy” for beginners if custom class making is too daunting.

Azura really isn't the type for secret covens and demon anuses into Oblivion, after all, and if you're in Morrowind and praying to the Anticipations you really shouldn't be facing the same kind of problems a secret cult to Molag Baal deals with.

IIRC each house is enterable, villagers were pretty static though until oblivion. There are villagers going around outside though, so it does feel like a city.

Not every house is enterable, some will say "there is nothing of value here". It's really inconsistent which ones can be entered and which ones can't though, in some cities every house will be enterable and others will have large amounts of unenterable ones.
And yeah the villagers just walk around waiting for you to kill them or pickpocket them. Except the ones indoors who can't be pickpocketed or killed but you can talk to them, but other than that they still do nothing. NPCs is one of the things I want modders to fix the most

There is stuff to find in the wilds but they are soooo huge its often pointless unless you know something is close by
There is a “tedious travel” mod I like which adds to the atmosphere and lets you see the wilderness without walking for literal real world weeks
It's a lot more about dungeon crawling, the dungeons are big and easy to get lost in, but it feels rewarding to loot. You usually just fast travel places, the world is massive, instead of learning a location by walking there you can fast travel right away.

Magic is pretty easy if you can wrap your head around the magic system and how spellmaking/item making/potion making works
just make a few low level training spells, rent a room at the local tavern for a good month, and train your casting day and night.

personally I prefer Morrowind but Daggerfall is still a lot of fun for me and still has surprises unlike Morrowind.
I'd advise against this method, if you want to have fun level by doing dungeons.

With magic you CAN level up so quick if you want but then possibly be out of your depth if you lack money and gear to pack yourself up

Yep, i tried to do some quests to enter Mages Guild(i still have no spells, so i need to enter Mages Guild to learn at least something), but last time i tried to do quest my enchanted with lightning bolt shield broke after very long dungeon with no drop i need(i used it like 200 times), so i fucked up.
I still have 3k gold after leveling merchant skills to 51, i guess i should buy a horse, and either dump extra gold into etiquette or thaumaturgy at least for 22.
I tried yesterday default long sword build, and it's a bit too easy and boring. I really feel i want to jew this land.

Daggerfall was in the era where pretty good 2D art could be displayed so there were genuinely sexy NPCs. But they were only sprites.
Morrowind was from the early 3D era where you'd be lucky to have people's mouths move. Any tits were triangular. Not possible to have sexy npcs in a game with hundreds of NPCs.
Oblivion was from the era where people thought it was the end of history and that 3D tech had finally come into its own, when really it looked like garbage. The brown and bloom era. They tried to make good looking NPCs but they went too much for realism which wasn't doable yet.
Skyrim was made when realistic graphics were finally relatively possible to achieve. So you start seeing the return of attractive NPCs.
Then, over the past 10 years, graphics have improved even more, to the point that modded Skyrim can be sexier than Daggerfall.
TESVI will break everyone's dick with their scanned in NPCs with photorealistic features. There is no getting better than that, literally 1:1 real life but with the ability to edit for idealized features.

Cool, thanks OP! I was playing some daggerfall and arena last year but I'll be sure to give this a go after I'm done with my morrowind "100%" run I'm currently doing. I know you can't do all houses and guilds same playthrough but I'm like 65% done with clearing the entire map and mostly done with guilds.

If it helps, the map has no dumb draw distance limit and marks the entrance with a green pillar. You can even set notes on the map.

You need to know in advance exactly when you have spare time, otherwise you're going to get fucked.

Fast travel is a bad thing when it its implementation does not merge into the game world well enough. Master Index and silt striders are perfectly fine.

because it's more combat oriented than morrowind. side quests are also much harder to complete because there's a timer and labyrinth in between you and your objective. nothing beats morrowind's comfyness though
Having replayed morrowind this year, I disagree. Especially when doing all quests you can in a single playthrough, the travelling is the part I dread the most. By this point I've teleported to each city hundreds of times and have gotten blocked by NPCs way too many times to count. As for outside travelling, it's frankly fucking awful without boots of blinding speed, and even then you have 6 cliff racers per square meter on your ass. I legit maxed all weaponskills just killing the infinite cliff racers that insta aggro you from 500000miles away when you set foot outside town to travel to quest dungeons. Silt striders are a good design however, they are in open areas so NPCs wont cockblock your path like with the mages guild TPs.They even copied this feature into skyrim which I played using only the cart travel option with fast travel and compass hidden and disabled.
One is a step up that improves the experience (and free) and one is a huge step down that hurts the experience (yet they have the nerve to sell it). I don't understand your surprise and confusion.
Has someone tried using that upscaling algorithm on this game yet? The areas look fine, but the enemies look comparatively poor.

Every esrgan upscale of purely artistically created images rather than photo-based smells like massive disgusting mounds of robot excrement. That window there is supposed to be a mesh of flat iron sheets connected with rivets at their intersection points and the stupid fucking AI goes "derr it's black lines with white outlines". The original has less resolution and looks more like the thing it's supposed to be.

I guess Master index is fine but I don't see most players utilizing or even knowing what it is. Mark and Recall are options too I guess, but having a slot or two extra would be nice. It doesn't really matter if you could TP to your home from anywhere since you can always warp to nearest temple etc and then take the daisy-chain of Silt striders etc back home, but it's just busywork since it doesn't cost any real money anyways.

All they do is roll the dice to pacify an enemy of whatever language type it is, you don't get to engage in dialogue with them or recruit them to follow you around or shit like that. It is situationally useful when you're dungeon crawling and need to rest, your lithe high elf can lay down in the arms of a Giant or Orc and rest, and if your rest is interrupted by an enemy of a different type to the one you're sleeping with they will attack eachother. That's about the only use I've found for it.
So is DU worth playing now, or should I wait for future releases? I don't want my first experience playing DF ruined by bugs.

Is the general stat formula the same as original daggerfall? The game doesn't explain what each stat does, so I'm assuming to just look up the original manual/wiki shit of daggerfall for more info.
It's not filtered though, they're just the default textures. Only the sword looks blurry though I'm not sure why
