Where are some oddities early on? I just started, at the gatehouse with Jonas. Going south or east makes me feel spooked since it's not supposed to be where I should be right off the bat.
Also as a psi build, am I still supposed to be abusing molotovs/grenades/traps/etc like everybody else seems to be? When do I get to become 100% reliant on being a time wizard?

Gunslinger does not. There are a couple others that only work for ballistic pistols also.

That's the starting place you first go to. Go north where you can kill rathounds and light up the outposts. You shouldn't be struggling with rathounds, unless you're on dominating. There is one fight there which I would say a molotov helps tremendously.

Age of Decadence is more Fallouty in some ways. But yeah try both.

Underrail is just better in every way except maybe graphics and audio but if you're here chances are you don't really care about that shit and want the absurd replay and autistic character fine-tuning value this game offers instead.

I use tac vests. Really they're not unbeatable, just extremely unfun because you can't fucking spot them from a reasonable distance, at least not without stealth like with that webm.

What's a build that has many options with regards to both combat and non-combat.

I love the idea of a character who has numerous choices, maybe traps, maybe an energy pistol, maybe a grenade, a rare psi power here or there. But also is able to craft or lockpick.

Is it possible to build something like that and still be effective? If not, what's the best middle-ground that is all about the theme 'options'?

Burst fire's nice when it comes up and removing a problem target immediately is nice but you lose a lot of overall damage unless you have drugs or time manipulation. I've just been using the non-burst guns.

lock picking and hacking dont really need to go higher than 50 points for at least like 60% of the game. crafting is not really useful imo and should only be dipped into just enough to unlock health/psi syringes.

Haven't played for a while and never made it super far into the game, as I restarted the game multiple times and played to like after junkyard to try out different builds.

How do the new weapons play like? What differentiates swords and spears from other melee weapons? Why would I go shotgun, sounds like it would play like heavy assault to me? how are other builds affected by the new additions?

swords are very high risk high reward, as long as you keep hacking shit they have more speed and more damage but you lose it if you miss, spears are like a mix between melee and ranged thanks to spear throw, the catch is that you have to go pick up your spear once you throw it and it gives decent defense through block

Swords - High Risk, High Reward. Can be extremely deadly if you land your hits, but not so efficient if you are not hitting your stacks (Sword relies on stack effects to increase crit chance and debuff opponents).

Spears - Versatile. 2 tile hit range, medium weight, relies on Dex and Str. Weaker stats compared to other melee weapons, but still very strong in my opinion. Spear feat ability has some of the most OP feats out there like spear throw, which some people have reported to have hit up to 5k in damage.

Have you trying going to the left and aggroing them from the window? They will even shoot adrenaline so you could try to time it and catch them during fatigue.

As far as the outside area where there are burrowers and lunatics yeah, easily done at lvl 4 on dominating if you know where the stalkers are and have enough coin for a few bear traps and mollys.

You need to use all your options. Sometimes even a crapshoot last chance molotov that can and will set yourself on fire along with your enemy might just save you. Use everything no matter what you spec into and explore your options, there are probably many things you're not aware of yet.

I think speedy builds with light armor are better for melee. But you'll have to use your movement and tools well to prevent all enemies from being able to attack you each turn.

Ah yeah, if you aggro them once over there they'll flock to the entrance. GG, either load before you did that or just reload over and over at the entrance until you can survive into your turn. There's a closed off section at the back which can only be accessed by the sewers, maybe from there you can make a shitton of noise and draw them away from the entrance.

As long as you do metathermics and psychokinesis schools first it's not that hard. I just ignored the other two until at least level 5 for this run.

I have 9 perception for this shotgun build and I'm wondering if it's worth it to go any higher. It kinda feels like I'm either in range to hit them or I need to get closer moreso than 'I bet I'd be more accurate if I had more perception!' Because otherwise I'm pumping my con to 10.

hit and run is shit for heavy armor hammer I think, but super good on knife or spear. That + sprint means you should be able to kill and get into cover every round

First time player here, yeah psi feels to me like it struggles a bit early on. It's definitely gotten a lot easier as I got more psionics options though. Depot A was a hellish experience filled with reloads and shooting enough meds into my system to fully engorge a bull elephant, but past that, outside of some retarded one shots I blindly stumbled into (some sniper fag in a tunnel a bit beyond Rail Crossing, for example, who just kills me from full shield and health), the game's difficulty has begun to smooth out pretty well.

On Normal and using Based Classic mode though.

Remember that shotgun accuracy does not work like firearm accuracy 50% chance to hit doesn't mean 50% chance to hit that target it means 50% of the pellets you fire will hit.

I valued Blitz and initiative extremely highly. Early on, initiative is all you have to keep your bonus from Tranq.

I would also go a 6 con 2 points wherever 10 int build with paranoia. That would be more forgiving, easy to maintain tranq with Fast Metabolism, and have lodes e free skill points due to 10 int. The psi regen is whatever, a slight bonus that we don't really care about.

I wouldn't do a 9 con build myself with TM; not worth it.

You lose a feat. If you know you don't want the defensive/control playstyle tranq demands there's no reason to take it. For example if you won't have stealth or initiative, it's not likely you'll get much out of it even on your first turn.

Armor sloping, weapon smith, ballistics for later. The main reason for int is expose weakness with a low AP melee weapon then erase anything with 20p shot. Having a few extra points in dex or agility isnt worth it imo

The auto shotguns aren't impressive to me for the strength because they cost so much AP to use and you can still shoot 3 times with a forward grip and
adrenaline. Also metal armor doesnt work well with shotguns even if you waste stat points for sprint

You can probably kill the bandits if you go out of SGS by the railway and kill some rathounds there to level up then come back to the starting quest if you don't want to make a new character because I don't think enemies ever reset if you've aggrod them and haven't killed them. Long barrel is standard damage and accuracy while short barrel is huge damage with reduced accuracy.

You're right that a low Per build shouldn't take it though, despite that probably being a thing made to help low per builds, it just works much better on high ones.

short barrel=more damage,more spread,-10% precision and long barrel is just tighter spread. I'd recommend short barrel since it looks like shotguns can only reach 75% accuracy max anyway
