This was never the case, and even if it were, champion variety existed through strengths and weaknesses. You often had to choose between mobility, damage, survivability, and crowd control; and if you wanted any of that damage or CC to be AoE you had to give up even more. Now everyone can do almost everything and the concept of dedicated single target nukers or dedicated crowd control is gone.

As an aside; though this wasn't the argument made previously, skillshots allow for greater risk:reward. Setting a 'standard' damage range for a point and click (obviously tweaked between individual champions depending on their roles and strengths/weaknesses) is a form of balance and skill shots could partially ignore that balance due to the assumption that they wouldn't hit 100% of the time. By making the majority of abilities skillshot, you're effectively ignoring that since everything is now set to the new 'standard' of a skillshot.

My biggest problem with League, since 2012, is that it has next to no unique heroes. There's nothing like Meepo, or Invoker, or Wisp, or Storm Spirit or whatever.
And when there actually are unique heroes, like Yorick, or Karma, or Shaco, Riot tries to rework them to make them utterly generic, with a skillshot Q, a shield, a on-hit effect and an AoE ult. Less so now because as the game decreases in popularity they spend less time working on it.
I mean heroes don't need to be complex, but it's nice when not every hero plays the exact same. There isn't much of a difference between Jinx and Jingles or whatever the Virtuoso hero is called, or between basically every ADC there is.
It's not as bad now as it used to be. I thought Bard was pretty unique, and he actually has an ult that's interesting to use. The new cat hero kind of reminds me of Wisp.

Also I think it's just fucking dumb how Riot's idea of a rework is to just essentially delete the hero and put a new one in its place with a new name and a somewhat similar theme.

Yes it absolutely does. There are tons of classic stories that exemplify regular dudes going up against forces they have no right challenging and winning anyway. That's what makes them fun - the idea of a regular guy standing up to unstoppable forces has been told for generations, and as soon as you make him too special it's no longer entertaining. When they changed Panth's lore to him being the host of an actual God is when I lost all interest in the character, because it attributes all his successes and skill to something that isn't human.

He was never a "chosen one" as much as he was just the guy they sent to the League, of course they give him the best gear for his send-off. It wasn't like the weapons made him more than he already was.

Voli is probably the only character in the game that actually feels like trolling. He just doesn't bring anything to the table other than damage, his CC and tankiness suck ass, he needs a rework urgently just because of that, and also because his concept sucks. He's a thunder bear that only has thunder aspects at lvl 6 and even then he sucks at it because he gets CC'd to death and barely manages to throw a few autos.

Fiddle is kind of understandable if you like Fiddle Support. I played the shit out of him and he's basically like old Urgot, really unfun to play against and point and click auto win lane shit. Once he's reworked you are never getting that, he's 100% losing his silence and his Q will be some conditional passive fear involving the fog of war. Which will be sick in the jungle but he won't ever be a support most likely.

Well to be fair last time I cared about league mid lane was almost all mages, fiddle hadnt been nerfed/outdated and I could almost always bait mid into early deaths and then could do some roaming and throw surprise parties for my friends.

Kit remains largely the same but with a higher skill ceiling. It's very fun to play without feeling too unfamiliar.

God I still remember the Worlds after they tried to make Mordekaiser a bot lane carry. In every fucking game despite not being remotely representative of how the game was the year before. I enjoyed Ivern. Jungler Support was a neat archtype they hadn't really done anything with before then. How is he in the current meta? I haven't played League in a few years.

The only 'rework' that I liked was Viktors and they didn't really do much for him except make his Augment apply to all his abilities instead of you just going for the death beam 99% of the time. I haven't played the game since Season 3 so I don't know of anyone else, but I remember them changing Gangplank just before I quit and I was annoyed because they changed the way his Oranges worked and I couldn't just max that out first and get huge baits in the early game. Every other rework just completely changes the character to basically a new hero and removes what was unique about them.

SMITE is a great game if you just want to play since there's at least 5 other game modes that aren't the traditional moba style map design. QWE are all different ingredients, one heals/damages, one slows/speeds, and one has an auxiliary effect. you mix 3 ingredients then hit R to mix a potion, and the effects vary depending on the ingredient combo. for example QQQ would be big damage/big heal, but QQW would be weaker heal/damage but minor speed increase/slow, QWW would be minor heal/damage with a noticeable slow/speed, and WWW would be no heal and just big slow/speed up.

after mixing a potion, Q throws the potion at a target area, W makes you drink it, and E lets you point-click target. can use them on allies or enemies. pressing R with a mixed potion discards it.

passive would be somewhat like bard chimes where you go around the map collecting spawns of plants/ingredients that give your next mixed potion a bonus effect, like invis, double damage, no mana cost, and other random stuff.

After 2013 LoL popularity and population drastically started to fall, the last big break for them was with Yasuo who is still one of the most popular champs in the game. But after that almost no champions ever lived up to champions of seasons past, so they asked the community what they wanted and people overwhelmingly said "update the old champs". The problem is, it took them years to even start this process so most of the people who asked for reworks aren't even playing the game anymore.
