if you're on PC consider installing the smart hunter mod. It shows a lot of stuff but what i wanted from it (and it works perfectly) was to immediately show crowns as soon as you start. And it does. So basically what you do is this:
>pick a monster you need
>find investigations for said monster
>start investigation
When you enter the mission the overlay will show pic related. If it has a gold big crown near the name (or a small crown) kill it. If not exit the mission and restart it

The sad part is that i used legit investigations, legitly farmed because i didn't wanna cheat (too much) and even like this it took me almost a week to get the crowns i was missing. The Elder dragons are an absolute pain to spawn. The mod helped me not having to kill them over and over when it wasn't necessary

Everything was made from scratch so yes, all-new content. Even returning monsters. They also had to add a lot of improvements to new monsters, such as AI behavior for new maps, dozens of new animations, interactions with other mosnters and the environment, a routine (everything your scoutflies spot is stuff that actually happens, like scratches, carcasses, etc) and other tidbits most of us miss.
Highest effort is also a factual statement. For example creating a MHW armor piece takes 10x the effort of creating a PS2 asset armor piece. They have more detail and sometimes bones and physics (as in fur elements that move or other bits that dangle).

I've played since F2. From the looks of it IB is very atypical so far, just from what we already know it's adding more content than the average G-rank Xpac, relative to its base game. Especially when it comes to QoL and weapon movesets. XX added 2 styles, as well as very slight balancing all around which is typical, but IB is adding much more. Last time we've seen so much new stuff was 3U but I don't really count that because 90% of the new additions came from P3rd (returning weapon classes and movesets, as well as a lot of monsters and map) rather than Tri.

LS has its gameplay massively changed with Iai.
Bow is the least changed weapon moveset-wise so yes we can all say it did get nerfed 100%.
HBG IIRC only had its cancer fixed, and new mods as well as a revamped special shot system (goes for LBG too) which is now a mod. We'll probably see changes with Pierce and element shots, but we'll have to wait and see.

I kind of agree, MH tends to turn into a grindy slog and it gets so grindy at times that it kills all my motivation to ever touch any game again. Also the previous games were fairly clunky and had awkward camera controls. I can see the appeal, though. I had fun with Gen 3, but after playing that to completion I could never get into the other gens due to burn out.

You do a lot of monster hunting, those are just part of the process of hunting the monster. The reason why games like MH are so popular is because of how engaging it is. It isn't just pressing the button and the monster is dead. You have to balance other shit in the environment, your stamina, your weapon, the monster's movements, the time it takes to heal, so on. What's so bad about having to run away? Really, it's your fault for allowing yourself to get into a situation where those two monsters are ganking on you like that while you're in the corner. It's a punishment for not being good enough. Using your potion is forcing you to put yourslef in another precarious situation to survive, and the game becomes harder as a result of you losing. In this webm you do nothing to help yourself, you just keep poking, and don't do any sort of defensive gameplay. Part of hunting a monster is not letting the monster hunt you. Yeah, it can be annoying with monsters like Bulldrome, but there are ways of dealing with it. You can use a dung bomb to just get the Bulldrome out of the way, or you can focus on the Bulldrome and kill it before going after the main monster. Considering your shitty equipment and the Bulldrome, this is the one where the Mizutsune shows up halfway through, right? Just use a dung bomb on the Mizutsune, then. You're not supposed to kill it, it's just supposed to fuck you up.

I'd put it roughly on par with GU (which is still saying a lot considering GU is a 3DS game). Definitely hope they up their game for whatever's next, though. There's really no reason why the graphical fidelity should come at the cost of every other visual element.

Freedom Unite, 3U, 4U, and GU. All of these featured both new high rank story and event quests. Freedom Unite and GU actually required you to play through the high rank content to access high rank versions of Nargacuga and Valstrax while 4U added a high rank event quest where you got to hunt Seregios on the ship.
