Not particularly

Yeah. I like the core gameplay, and I regret that this style of game kinda went away. FPS games these days are so clunky and heavy.

Yes I do

Attached: 1550444087688.png (480x360, 241K)

yes because its gonna be in vr. Every half life game was made only when there was a large enough tech leap. This is the next leap.

don't you guys think the vr boneworks shit will have something to do with it? Aren't they waiting for some new gimmick? Yanno like half life 2 haha

of course.

I never wanted it.

if they brought back all the main guys who worked on the previous titles and actually focused to get it released within the next couple of years then yes but that'll only happen if valve was struggling with money

You've heard of Half Life 3. We all have, the legend, the curses. Some foolishness about it lying in some surprise announcement in a year just around the corner. A year of hope. Buried beneath blood-red Steam... a bright, shining monument luring dreaming anons to their doom. An illusion that you can play again, get your ending.
Waiting for it, though, that's not the hard part.
It's letting go.

>make one of the most critically acclaimed franchises of all time
>never finish it
Its so fucking dumb. Their excuse was it wouldnt live up to the hype? Does any game ever live up to the hype? At worst, it wouldve just been a good game. And now, Valve is well beyond the point of making games. Artifact doesnt count and shows how out of touch they are in the realm of game development. I hate this timeline.

The only way I'd see it happen is if they thought they needed another tech demo like HL2, but I don't know if that's the way to go about it these days

Valve sequels have lived up to the hype. They got too used to that glory.

Just let it go man

I'll play it if it comes out, but I don't get attached to video game franchises. I can live without sequels. If there's a sequel to some random game that I liked fine, chances are that i'll try it out. if not then that's fine too.

Yes!

I want to see what happened to the Combine eggsacs.

it'll never happen, they still do the work on whatever you want shit
joindota.com/en/news/84521-my-visit-at-valves-hq-what-i-learned-about-the-state-of-dota-2

Not really.
If it were to come out, fine, but I am losing zero sleep over the thing.

>the guy parroting McVicker
every thread

Yes, because a Valve FPS-style game is always very enjoyable

In a way yes, but I feel it might not be as good as we want it, even if it's the greatest game of all time, people will probably be so overhyped they would hate it. To be honest all I really want out of Half-Life anymore is say Gordon Freeman in Smash, so Nintendo could help me relive the glory days of Half-Life getting love it deserves.

Not after Valve's many fuck-ups. They can't do it anymore, and nobody else should.

>VR
You mean that thing that will never get an audience outside of sports/music games because you experience nausea and want to vomit if you play more than 30 minutes straight

This, I don't like Half Life 2

Valve doesn't make games anymore, and even if they started too once again, Gabe is old. Once he's gone it's over.

They've written themselves into a corner, and I dunno what happened later. They probably took their sweet time working on it, and then they found themselves being in nu-Valve and canned it.

>trusting the man who literally went through his entire drive thru menu order on stream
>repeating the man who said he used to cry to hate comments on Yea Forums
>regurgitating the person who's gonna release a video on "being right" because being right is the only thing he strives for in his petty little life

>after Valve made a literally dead card game and undershit
No. It will be worse than DNF.

I'm getting all those copies of hl3 out even if I have to take all the drugs and carry it out inside your severed leg old man!

Half Life 3 is coming out with VR support in 2021. The catch? It's A janky battle royale focused game, with the "plot" being decided in events akin to splatfests.

Of course. I have 0 expectations since I don't think it will ever release, so as long as it releases and has the same quality as the games before for their time, I'm happy.

cure your sick mind.

Attached: 1562165222298.jpg (480x480, 31K)

Kind of just for some closure.
I have no interest whatsoever in half life 3 though.

>Every half life game was made only when there was a large enough tech leap.
Except for
Half life blue shift
Half life opposing force
The Co op ps2 one
Hallf life 2 episode 1
Half life 2 episode 2
Half life source

A Half-Life themed BR would be pretty cool if it were based off the events of the first game. Stick 100 guys in a map as scientists, barnies, HECU, etc and then have the resonance cascade play out in real time.

>tfw no Shepherd stealing the spotlight in episode 3

Half-Life: Outbreak? I'd play that.

No, I want an egg salad sandwich and a bag of salt and vinegar chips.

I would still like it. I wouldn't complain. The plot leak from a few years back when that writer quit valve gave me all the closure I need though so I'm not exactly desperate for the ending that I once was

I don't understand the VR meme. This thing will never catch on and people should know it by now.

The headset is way too expensive to be markettable.
You get motion sickness and nausea if you play a game (FPS/RPG) for more than 30 minutes.
No normie or pseudo-normie wants to use VR for a game anyways, it's just too uncanny.

The only niche VR can fill is porn games (which aren't easy to distribute and promote, so they'll never be mainstream) or sports games. It's just a new WiiFit or Kinect.

shut the fuck up Tyler

seethe more

Attached: IMG_20190730_102222_594.jpg (1280x1198, 143K)

I feel like they will eventually release it but they're waiting for the genre and tech to evolve somehow, because they're both stale as fuck right now.

It didnt even need to be anything major, it could have just been another HL2 episode and people would still be happy.

no
1 was great, 2 was so bad i didnt finish and never even tried the episodes

like it or not, it's becoming mainstream my dude. also stop saying that nausea shit, that goes away forever after you play for like 15 minutes once. quest and rift is selling like hotcakes and more and more devs are making full fledged decently priced 6-8+ hour games, valve is putting their full backing into it too on steam and literally paying devs just to implement VR stuff in other games.

Not really. I'm almost 30 and single player shooters aren't fun to me anymore. I'm more into puzzle/platformer/multiplayer/sandbox kind of games.

Attached: 45454.jpg (1920x1080, 127K)

What's bad about HL2 besides contrarianism

VR will indeed become mainstream. For sports games, because it's the perfect fit for those.
It will go down the way of the WiiFit, reaching market saturation pretty quickly when devs realise you can't produce anything on it.

The novelty effect will also wear off pretty quickly since it's a lot less "social" than the WiiFit.

>it's another old good/new bad post
>it's another "half life 2 is so bad it's literally unplayable" post
Off you toddle, come back with either
a) better bait
OR
b) an opinion that isn't contrarian for contrarian's sake

Not from Valve I dont...

What kind of a fucking question is that, OF COURSE I want it

>it's not social
>one of the most popular games on it is VRchat
>literally connect online to see stats
>only used for sports games (I haven't even seen any sports games on VR?? like football VR or soccer vr?)
>besides beatsaber and vrc, some of the most popular games are FPS like h3vr, Pavlov, onward
look man, don't talk shit about a platform just because you don't have 400$ ok?

Just look at VR like this.
If you like sim games, then this it's the best purchase of your life, if you want AAA story games then look elsewhere.
VR is good for flying planes, driving, the occasional hand tracking gem like H3VR and playing through your old library with VorpX. If you don't like tinkering, sandboxes and porn games then it's not for you.
I've personally had more fun in VR than I've had elsewhere in years.

>h3vr, Pavlov, onward
Litteraly never heard of them
By "social", I meant, "gather round with the family/friends and play together". This was essentially the raison d'ĂȘtre of consoles : invite your friends and play Halo coop (I still do it from time to time). Can't do that with your autistic VR headset.

>driving
>your eyes register a sensation of rapid acceleration but the rest of your body stays immobile

with the way valve is right now, no

>You get motion sickness and nausea if you play a game (FPS/RPG) for more than 30 minutes.
You don't if you give yourself some time to process it. It's like saying bikes will never catch on because you keep falling off of one.

>never heard of them
HOW WILL VR EVER RECOVER

also name one (1) popular console game that has couch coop released this generation. they took out couch coop by the end of last gen idiot

Just like on a screen/triple screen set-up.
Nothing stops you from getting one of those G-Force simulating devices. VR is an expensive toy and it gets better the more money you can pour into it.

I never got any motion sickness from VR, somehow I'm completely immune.
I always thought people were playing it up or something.

Splatoon 2.
If you haven't heard of them then you just don't know shit about VR. I'm not saying they're good games, but they're the best we have right now, and we had them for YEARS. Pavlov is arguably the Top 3 next to Beat Saber and VRChat. Again, not saying it's that good, it's just everything is much worse.

the internet would break as soon as they'd announce HL3
all these people who got "tired of waiting" will buy it anyway

Considering Valve can be directly traced bad to most things wrong with video games today, I'm gonna have to say no.

>traced bad
traced back*

But yeah, Valve is bad.

How is it an excuse when that's apparently how they really felt. If they thought it would be sub-par it probably was underwhelming, and then it was the right call to wait until they could make it at least as impressive as HL2 and Ep 1, Portal etc. were at the time. Always amazes me to see how certain people are that they know these things better than the actual geniuses making games of this magnitude.
Of course I would've settled for an Ep 3 that was as good as Ep 1 or even 2, but we don't get to make these calls, unless you want to make an(other) Ep 3 fan mod in which case go ahead. How is that one coming along btw, not the one already released (closure) but the other one whose name I forgot?

You mean Reddit and shitposters would break. Nobody cares about HL3 anymore, it's only the meme that still gets some traction.

I actually despise all three of those but love VR.

Here's the real list
H3VR (take and hold)
Redout
VTOL VR
House of the Dying Sun
BallisticNG
Arktika.1
Jet Island
Lone Echo
Compound
Gorn
Superhot
And Vorpx for a fuckload of games.

Not really, the Half-Life 2 formula has not aged well.

EP1 was never impressive. It was supposed to be a quick sequel, because nobody wanted to wait 7 more years for another sequel. They broke HL: Aftermath into episodic content, everyone was alright with it at the time, but they still fucked it up by abandoning EP3.
EP1 was literally just a mappack and ONE extra enemy. It didn't even introduce a new envoirment or anything new to go by like EP2 did. It was just a quick sequel.

It had no formula, just a bunch of half-assed experiments with gameplay concepts.

Though I guess you can call this a formula if you want.

What was the last official word on HL3 anyway?

>H3VR (take and hold)
Oh? And how long can you play this mode without dozing off? I'm not a fan of Pavlov, but holy fuck Anton's game design is absolute worst. I mean, new T'n'H is better than almost every previous game mode, but you're still shooting bullet-sponge wobbly dicks in a boring, empty hallway.
>Redout
It's an okay game, one of those that VR should be getting more often, because it seems like a small patch, and adds tremendously to the experience.
>VTOL VR
Agreed, that game is one of those "wouldn't x be cool in VR" done very well.
>HotDS
Loved that too, shame it has next to no content. Fucking hated E:D doesn't play like this. I assume Arena would, but no bots and its ded.
>BallisticNG
yeah, same as Redout, it's alright
>Arktika.1
haven't tried, I'll check it out
>Jet Island
Cool game, shame they don't add shit to it. Could be a very nice Tribes knock-off with multiplayer CTF.
>Lone Echo
Haven't tried, Occulus software fucks me right up and I gave up trying to make it work.
>Compound
Great game, hope it's not finished though
>Gorn
It's... alright, but the potential is wasted on wave only mechanic, looking forward to B&S, doubt they'll making Gorn more than an introduction to VR kinda title.
>Superhot
Pretty amazing, could use a workshop.
>VorpX
Haven't tried yet.

Epistle 3 I guess? If the lead writer called it quits I think it speaks a lot, lol.

Attached: 1563260718148.jpg (448x545, 75K)

Oh I'm sure you can dredge up some article from the past year or so of someone at Valve, maybe even Gabe, confirming they haven't abandoned it but as with everything Valve says; I'll believe it when I see it.

It also had dark gravity gun, but yeah it wasnt really anything new.

Nope.
I know people that still do and they are fucking delusional. It will turn out just like Duke Nukem Forever if it ever happens. Holy grail games like this always do.

Ask VNN, he'll tell you that he spoke with someone from Valve last week and yeah HLVR is totally happening dude you can basically pre-order it any day now.

Yes but I am in the process of developing a hatred of Valve that transcends every fibre of my being.
They are, at this point in time, basically a welfare program for video game professionals. What the FUCK are they even doing when they clock in to work?

The same dark gravity gun you had towards the end of HL2?
youtube.com/watch?v=rOoRk1Yh7Xo
The only new things in EP1 were... uhh... the flares? I guess?

>Oh? And how long can you play this mode without dozing off?
Fair criticism on everything, but somehow I get a fuckload of mileage out of take and hold, especially the limited ammo mode. I don't think there are any enemies that don't die in one hit from a headshot unless they are heavily armored.
>Haven't tried yet.
Don't get VorpX if you aren't prepared to tinker, there are premade profiles for pretty much every game but holy shit some of them are retarded.

Overall the state of VR is pretty grim though, not much on the horizon to look forward to and the shit facebook stuff there is (stormlands) will almost definitely be shit.

Attached: dozing off.png (446x130, 82K)

no. none of the original people are involved anymore. i can live with epistle 3 and just take something new instead. not that i expect any new single player games from valve realistically

At this point in Valve's history, the game would likely release with a new version of HL Death Match and it would be riddled with lootboxes and cosmetics.

>It's letting go.

Attached: 1519767673113.jpg (664x955, 233K)

Looks like they are a R&D company, they fuck around with some new ideas for a week, and then they abandon them. As long as they have endless Steam money it's okay. Gabe probably likes some of their projects, he probably liked VR enough that they made Index a thing, but he probably doesn't game much so he doesn't care that they made something akin to a home console without launch titles.
I mean, have you seen some of the issues with Index Controllers? They're like a dev build, they have glaring issues that would be discovered right away if they cared enough to, I dunno, send them to some VR ESL league or whatever. For the price they're one of the shittier controllers you could get. Cheap feel, hardware issues in industry standard components (thumbsticks, triggers). Remember Steam controller or Steambox? SteamOS? Valve is like that depressed NEET on welfare that has dozens of projects started, but never finished.

Attached: 1562189813442.gif (500x281, 1.51M)

Just to finish the story, yes. I'm not going to like it as a game, fuck I hate Half-life 2, but it absolutely aggravates me that the story doesn't have an ending.

They can't even make sure an update for a 12 year old game they make bank off of doesn't contain bad code that literally crashes the economy they spent years previously developing

Valve is dead, it died in 2007

Fuck off faggot

Attached: 1397663303758.png (751x418, 562K)

Yeah, I liked H3VR, especially since "Sosig Breach Proto" and Xmas updates, I felt like Anton got his head out of his rear (cough cough RotR) and actually started to focus on fun game modes, but then he made Meat Fortress which is such a boring waste of time. I just quit having expectations and treat it as a more gun accurate VRFPS game and some lefty redditor faggot's personal sketchbook he allows me to look through.

Not that poster and I dunno who McVicker is, but I've also been saying HL3 needs to be in VR for it to matter.

It's obvious to anyone who realizes the HL games were meant to also function as tech demos, to get other devs interested in their engine, and want to use it for their own games. Just pumping out sequels to continue the story was NEVER what Valve wanted to do, it's not about the story for them, it's about showcasing their engine.

Attached: latest[1].jpg (500x342, 26K)

Yeah, they aren't making a game if they can't shove microtransactions up in it. They tried in Portal 2, they know it's not worth it to even try SP/Co-op anymore.

The whole point, though, of making quote "episodic content" for Half-Life was to finish off the story in a way they could manage. What was the tech demo for two expansion packs?

Yes, first day purchase, unless something is seriously wrong with it.

Yeah, if it came out. Beyond that, the hype has been dead for me for a loooong time

Unironically no. Frankly, I don't even remember how Hl2 ended. Or hl1 for that matter.

>What was the tech demo for two expansion packs?

>The game runs on an upgraded version of Valve's proprietary Source engine, and features both the engine's advanced lighting effects, and a new version of its facial animation/expression technology.[19] Upgrades to enemy AI allow Combine soldiers to utilize tactics previously unavailable to them. For example, Combine soldiers were given the ability to crouch while being fired upon so they could duck underneath the player's line of fire.[18] The game's soundtrack was composed by Kelly Bailey.[14] The music is used sparingly throughout; it plays primarily during scenes of major plot developments or particularly important action sequences such as large battles or when encountering a new enemy.[18]

Jesus christ Meat Fortress was a waste of time, I almost couldn't believe it when I booted it up.
The biggest mistake you can make with H3 is ever reading Antons twitter or expecting anything from him, he somehow stumbled into making some fun firearms and two good modes.
The Hickok45 range, where you shoot fucking potplants and T&H.

>Do you even want it anymore?
Nah, Half Life was never that great.

>An expansion pack contains small upgrades
WOW, but you can't deny the main point of EP1&2 was to continue the story surely?

Yes.

Of course I do, I'm just not holding my breath any longer.

Old Valve yeah. New Valve is likely to make the next Half-Life a mobile gacha game. Something like Ingress. Combine versus Resistance AR gameplay, tied with Steam so you buy troops and shit or whatever. They know there's no market in VR software yet. Probably made Index just to test their hardware production lines and they'll abandon it after realizing they don't care enough to update Knuckles forms to be less shit.

Easy. Gman tells you its gonna be a cliffhanger, and it is.

I think he's slowly realizing just how much of a convulted fucking mess that game is, even on the user end, and will do more side-updates like that, or just return to shoving more guns every now and then and responding to every "Thank you Anton" post on Reddit.

>Make a TF2 homage thing
>in a singleplayer game
>make the gamemode TDM (is that even a thing in TF2? Kek)
>On a shitty OC map
>Make the characters totally-not-humans wobbly dicks that talk about wobbly dicks
>Make a bunch of boring TF2 guns "real" which makes them... well.. boring compared to real ones with attachements and shit
Based Anton.

No, I never wanted this trash.

>spin offs
nice

Sure.
As long as it remains similar to the previous episodes and doesn't become some current year politically correct abomination.

You faggots say this shit knowing good damn well it's going to be completely trash. It'll pander to normies and SJWs but you faggots keep your hope up for nothing just to be disappointed later and then you'll whine and cry. Why? We all know it's going to be shit because whenever they do make it, it'll be because they HAVE to because obvious cash grab or some other reason, and not because the fucking fans have been screaming at them for the past fucking decade or so.

Valve doesn't work like that user. They really only do what they want.

>They really only do what they think will net them massive amounts of money for minimal amount of work
fixed for accuracy

Yes but I've accepted it not happening for a very long time, if ever.
I honestly want a new Left 4 Dead more than anything at the moment.
