Raids are a bit of a ways off, but they're all worth doing as they give you insight into the lore and some of them even come up again later as plot points.
Binding Coil is the only tricky one as you'll have to wrangle a couple of more experienced players to carry you.

When you hit level 50 go to Hyrstmill in the North Shroud and start your ARR artifact weapon. Doing the whole thing would be too time-consuming and expensive for a new player, but the first two stages are relatively easy and fast, unlock two trials, and get you a nice glowing weapon for glamour and a job-appropriate title.

Original launch was garbage, relaunch vanilla was not very good. Has been getting better each expansion (arguably HW was better than SB tho)

However I got a hunch Shadowbringers will be the peak of FFXIV. It's been 3 expansions+vanilla already and honestly they add very little invention each expansion. What were the biggest overall additions on the game in ShB? You can do dungeons with AI. In StB? You can (awkwardly) swim and dive. I've loved all the expansions so far, but when you're just doing more of the same, you can only go so far before people get bored. It happened with WoW and they were being way more inventive in additions to the game. It also doesn't help that basically all you can do, like really do, like main in, in FFXIV is PvE, while in WoW these days you can PvE, PvP or do the collection meta (which is somewhat in FFXIV but a very limited achievement system that doesn't encourage as much collection and not being able to collect every single glamour in the game really hurts).

Also Shawowbringers was the first time the devs toned back the complexity of the gameplay and started taking out skills instead of adding more.

Can anyone tell me why everyone says BFA is bad without using the word 'content'? I only played vanilla/BC and came back for BFA and I love it. PvP is more fun and balanced than ever, every class and spec is viable and high level keys are more challenging than old-school heroics.

Legion was shit, but it was still a better MMO experience than anything FF14's ever done. FF14 is a singleplayer game with co-op content. WoW may have a silent community in random content, but FF14 is dead silent at all times because most of the players use controllers.

Legion just seemed less like ass because of WoD before it. It was the first major step towards completely watering the game down in BfA. Can't wait to see how they fuck it up in the next expansion.

The majority of jobs rotations in XIV are true rotations. This means they can literally be planned out minutes in advance and there is very little RNG. Red mage is an exception because it inherently relies on procs.

The majority of WoW rotations are actually priority lists because the majority of specs have one or more procs core to their gameplay. Again, there are exceptions like balance druid for the majority of legion.

Even raid design adheres loosely to this philosophy. WoW frequently used mechanics which randomly target people but raid sizes in XIV are so small that pretty much everyone always participates in each mechanic.

Basically, XIV focuses memorizing your rotation where WoW focuses on memorizing your priority list and being able to select the correct choice at any given time.

Something about DPS in WoW as well, don't know how much it applies to FF, priority lists mean you will have to adapt not only to your procs, but to every little thing like every boss, the way every group handles mechanics differently, your rotation will even change as your guild gets more gear.
I played at a very high level and it's almost unheard of that a new recruit that used to top meters at his old guild will top meters the first week after joining a new one. You have to get used to the new timings for everything, will have to restructure your CDs, old padding methods won't work anymore...
And that's without getting into DPSing while performing mechanics. We had to boot like 50% of our new recruits because they couldn't keep up doing both mechanics and high DPS if they weren't used to progressing pre-nerf bosses while being undergeared.

Because when it came out, WoW was still decent. At one of its low points with Cata, sure, but still decent. As time went on though it started to stop being decent and started to morph into the grotesque mass of shit it is today, but ARR was still so shit it couldn't pry people off of WoD. But then with each expansion for each respective game, XIV got better while WoW got worse . Shadowbringers is the best XIV has ever been while BFA is the worst WoW has ever been, and it is rightfully losing its grip on the genre because of their incompetency. People are flocking to FFXIV because it's the second biggest MMO that is seeing active improvement from the dev team where the WoW dev team seems hellbent on destroying the game.

To new FF14 players

This is a story based mmo. The games entire focus is the single player story. If you find the story shit you should just quit. The shadowbringers mmo story is good but you need to go through all of the expansions to understand the story. The games end game is lacking and it's not a joke when people say ERP is the end game. Item upgrades are very simple and there is zero space to customize stats to your liking.

Again do not sub to FF14 expecting an mmo. It's a single player rpg with a chat box attached to it. Constant droughts are constant. Thr devs have informed players to unsub when they eat through the content. Most subs are in the game for social reasons and to not lose their player housing. When you unsub you lose your plot.

Take it or leave it that is the truth.

Wow has not had good content in like 10 years and people are finally starting to move on.

I don't even get why people keep comparing census when XIV and WoW are completely different in character design.

On XIV you can level everything on the same character so you're bound to see players only focusing in one character, rarely playing more than that. Meanwhile WoW has a lot more active characters due to the fact each character being locked to one class.
