To do this the church, the ones responsible for implementing the crest based system as well as ruling humanity from the shadows, must be stopped. It's impossible to simply attack the church on its own since they have split the world into three - meaning that if one country tries to oppose them they can call on the other two to smite them down. A war is necessary. She could also not trust Dimitri or Claude with this due to their personalities, Dimitri believes that you can't do a bad thing for a good cause so he would never agree to it, and Claude only looks out for those he cares about, and is also completely unpredictable.

It's also worth noting that Edelgard simply doesn't have the time available to change the world via politics, due to spoilery reasons involving crest experiments. She is definitely not a morally good person, but calling her evil is short-sighted and dumb.

She's one of the few characters that looks worse after timeskip. PASS

I'm pretty sure the story was first designed with the BE route in mind, which is probably why the Church route branches off of it. People who choose Dimitri or Claude don't really have an event in the pre-skip that would cause the professor to consider changing allegiances. While the story is moved forwarded by Edelgard's actions as the Flame Emperor / working with Solon, it would be a lot harder to justify Byleth going "lol fuck you Dimitri/Claude I'm joining the church". From a game play perspective though, I agree with you. They should've made it an option on BL/GD if Byleth supported enough Church members or something.

Like most people say, even on Hard it's a little on the easy side, but I feel like there are enough maps that provide a challenge (plus monsters add a nice variation). The story and the characters seem to be the big pull this time around and it's definitely in the top tier of the franchise. The school stuff feels more fully realized and utilized, so it feels less like a "Persona" rip off people thought it was.
