It was the clear frontrunner between the two.
The Switch sold better for the first year and boasts an excellent attach rate with more first party titles (read: much more profitable), so arguing which console was most "successful" is up for debate.
And then of course which one's BETTER, but that's classic console war stuff.

Depends on how you measure success. Sony has bigger raw numbers but Nintendo's are far more impressive in terms of their input to output.
