By the time this thing is too expensive to repair i'll have every enchant in the game handed to me on a platter, it takes like 10 successful fishes for it to tick down a notch on durability

I don't know why it's so bad, but I am genuinely terrified of endermen. I think it has to do with the long limbs and sounds they make, and that they were released around the time I was having nightmares every night for about 6 months straight. When I was younger I would stop playing with my friends immediately if someone even mentioned there was one nearby, and I would be shaking and sweating at just the thought of it. It was really that bad.

It always made me feel embarrassed when youtubers could simply walk by or fight them with no hesitation, when I would be long gone as soon as I saw the purple particles. Luckily it's not as bad now, but I still can't go near one without feeling a little nervous, endermen honestly ruined the game for me.

Have you tried making a resource pack to change their visuals to something more tolerable to you? If not, make one of those simple enderman xp farms in the end, the sound they make when you kill like 5 of them at once is super satisfying

I have looked into changing their looks and sounds, but another big thing that spooks me is the teleportation, and since I know the way it does this will be identical to an enderman, my brain interprets it as that anyway. This is a dumb example but it's the only one I can think of, the fnaf robots look like stuffed animals but clearly move like animatronics in some animations, which makes it even scarier, if that makes any sense.

Have you played old D&D CRPGs? Change their models to spiders and pretend they're phase spiders.

Or just, find a mod to remove them. Another option is doing a server wide command (you can enable these in single player too) to kill all endermen or teleport them to the void
