Eh it's not just that. I've realized that playing online you also have to prioritize having full wumpa at all times AND also hitting every item box possible. If you're not exploiting items to the max, you'll get fucked over by others that do (mainly clock jocks, you need to grind item boxes to get blue shields in first place to ward them off).

It's literally better to get an item than it is to cut a more perfect line through a turn.

I disagree. I've been in first driving time trial perfect and been fucked over by combinations of items that put some fag in second ahead of me. The difference is he was getting every item and I was missing a lot of crates.

Blue shields are what you need to grind until you have one, at that point you can start driving perfect lines until someone gets a clock or an orb catches up.

i just got the game yesterday. beat the adventure mode today, and now im going around getting CTR coins and relics. this game is incredibly satisfying to learn and conquer. learning the tracks and how to chain boosts as long as possible is awesome.
but these fucking relic times. what the fuck? even after practising for like half an hour on one track, ill still be like 10 seconds off even the sapphire relic. its mental. i really like the game so ill keep practising and learning and shit, but i feel like im missing something.
i mean, did the devs just expect you to blue fire boost around the entire track while collecting boxes? i dont see how else you could get even the gold relics. what am i doing wrong? i can boost around the track and collect boxes and never hit an obstacle or fall off the course but im still nowhere near these times.

i can see in adventure mode some tracks are gated off by CTR coins and relics. do i get anything for beating those stages? getting just 10 sapphire relics seems pretty difficult.
also, oneof the karts is unlocked after 100% adventure progression. does that mean gold/plat relics, or just any relic? anything else involved in getting 100%? like i said, i really like the game and i can see myself playing it for a long time, but fucking hell those relic races are crazy, especially compared to getting trophies and ctr coins, which are challenging but very doable. it's just weird how much harder the relics are.

The Norms seem to be one of the few characters where they actually got creative with the recolour skins instead of just slapping alt colours on like Cortex's.

You need all the gems, relics and shit to beat Oxide again and unlock him and the hoover cart. Getting Sapphire isn't as daunting as it feels now. And I'm a pleb who's had this game since day 1

also, after beating story mode, i noticed i never raced on any of the nitro kart tracks. are the nitro kart tracks tied to story mode at all? is the only way to play them through arcade mode? and do i get shit for beating the time trials or relic/ctr races on those nitro kart tracks? or should i just focus on the ctr tracks? i guess ill need to learn everything for online races, huh?

Honestly I think it'd be neat if they gave Baby Tropy a unique time trial unlock, like beating his ghosts on all the bonus tracks or something.
I doubt it'll happen though, the GP characters look like they're all tied to either nitro tiers or the pit stop. Some achievement-related unlocks would've been cool.

There are no nitro tracks in the story. Oxide ghosts unlock something but I'm not sure, I haven't even got one. You do need to beat all of Tropy's ghost and all the tracks to get him however, this is tidus, don't marathon it, do them at leisure in bits
