My problem is that since he can attack you right off the bat, it doesn't make much sense to me in relation to the story. Also, I don't like the gear it gives you so early on, since it's powerful while it comes to you, rather than the other way around. Obviously you know what you like about vanilla Morrowind, so you can remove the minor stuff you don't like about it. It was something I thought was necessary, but in hindsight, it really is optional.
