She's still the central character of the overarching plot. Her corpse is the main macguffin across all routes, also her impact when she was alive is still felt hundreds of years later, especially through Seiros.
Also you can marry her even though she's literally a dead dragon goddess, doesn't have a physical form and even gave up her soul to give you Super Saiyan Mint (she wills herself back into existence just for you).

I'm trying to recruit units from other classes as hard as possible, but my own units are severely lacking in motivation. Should I sit them down for a few meals or a seminar or something, or just keep using meals on units I want to join me?

If you choose someone else she doesn't come back after fusing with you. She's still always with you in a way, but not romantically.
If you S rank her then she comes back for you. Still basically a tulpa though. We won't get to revive her until the DLC route.

She can still get 1 shot by physical attacks, especially archers, if you leave her in attack range. Her HP and Def are incredibly low.

You need multiple conversations to get that rank.

It's much better tho. You have a LOT of uses (i've never ran out with my main mages) and some of the utility that was extremely rare ( Like Warp, Rescue, Fortify, etc) Is now a per mission use. 1 FREE warp per mission is extremely good, especially since Lysithea has humoungous magic so she can send your 1 man army to the front.

I all those mission where you need to defend a civilian or someshit i just Warp Raphael ahead and he goes on fistin' the trouble away
