Back in 2016 I started to follow a relatively unknown speedrunner. He became gradually popular and is now right past the threshold of having this be his full-time job.
However, what does that mean? Well, he streams up to 12 HOURS A DAY, six days a week, and he plays the same game so he's always on edge and getting pissed off.
See, recently he's made a bunch of YT videos about how he basically hates his community for being dumb zoomers, and his faggot mods aren't helping either.
Is he making money? Yes. Is he having fun? Debatable, but probably. Is it sustainable? Maybe, but he's not the same man he was when I started watching him. Not by a long shot

How do I leverage "advertising" successfully? I can't do it in many places since they'll straight up ban me. Also trying to link to your stream in other people's streams or youtube or discords etc or comments is plain disrespectful. So how do you even get the word out?

I find that I've been doing a lot of things and playing a lot of games/mods that people otherwise aren't doing. When I try to look on youtube for a vid of a thing I'm doing or playing I don't find anything. Should I start some video channel or streamnto show these things?

If you like video games, are good at them, and ave a good personality, you might as well give it a shot. As a hobby, it's fun as fuck, and if it becomes a job, suddenly you have time for other hobbies.

Maybe you won't make it big purely on Fortnite, but I must point out between tournaments, Creator codes, zooms, there are many more ways to make a buck in that community. Long term sustainability as a STREAMER requires an entertaining personality though.

Just be incredibly consistent too. Sometimes it's worth cornering a certain game, and being the rare guy that streams a niche game, you can get a little community going that way. Then once you got a community try testing the waters with new games etc.

Self-seving loop, have your own socials feeding into your other socials, while creating a small community of similar-minded streamers who you play with. The goal is both audience cross-over and creating a large enough spectacle to get everyone new eyes. Become a regular in the communities of your contemporaries, if you want to really succeed you have to live and breathe this business.

This is always good, just remember its a time thing. The more niche it is, the longer it will take for a natural audience influx, BUT the retention rate is generally higher since you have the supply. Just make sure your YT is veery clear that you stream, and where to find your stream. Getting people to click to another website is perhaps the hardest part of the whole thing.

If you didn't already make it, chances are you never will. I'm talking go back in time and stream on justintv all the way until now and maybe you will make a living. That, or go back a few years to when you could bot the shit out your channel and get away with it. Can't really do that anymore.

Honestly it is kind of this. 75% of streamers don't even make it a full year with a consistent schedule. Just by virtue of showing up every day people in a given community will notice you. Then it becomes a numbers game, just grinding it out over time and maintaining consistent quality. Of course you need some luck, but I'm a Mike Tyson fan, and i subscribe to his believe that hard work creates good luck for you.

Here's my small bit of advice, I hate to use this word but you need good content.
If you're just gonna sit there with your lips sealed for 4 hours don't even bother, the baseline quality a new streamer should have is that you need to be able to talk endlessly even if no one is listening (you will have no idea when people start waiting). You need to be entertaining somehow too, if your content is good people will find it naturally, it'll take some time but it's totally possible. 99.99% (I'm not exaggerating with this number) of streamers are pure shit and they still manage to get viewers, if you honestly believe this is what you want to do then to it and be better than them.

Also high quality mic/camera/etc are unnecessary, just make sure you're not ear raping people with a garbage mic.
