The central conceit that separates it from heroic fantasy is that in high fantasy entire armies need to be involved, while heroic fantasy usually involves a group of dudes or just one guy going on a quest.
What separates high fantasy from low fantasy is that in low fantasy, the central conflicts are more mundane(e.g. money, land, power) while in high fantasy the conflicts are, like stated earlier, involve the ultimate battles between good and evil.
